F180 - Owls Roost
Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6

The owners have farmed here for seven generations and have converted the cottage from a barn with love and flair, combining character with comfort. The owners' farm shop (home-reared Exmoor Angus beef and lamb, local produce), 1½ miles.Slate-floored hall; stairs up to large, attractively fitted kitchen/dining room and living room (TV/DVD/video) with 'living flame' electric stove (both with distant sea views). Cross-beamed ceiling in dining room, glazed doors open to balcony and steps down to lawned garden (decking, barbecue); in the kitchen, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, Mexican hand-painted tiles. Also upstairs (stairgate), a double bedroom (5' bed) with en suite bathroom (suite plus hand-shower, 'room for 2'-sized bath). Downstairs, two bedrooms – a double (5' bed), and a twin, each with en suite shower-room (suite). Utility room with washing machine, tumble drier, washbasin, room for coats/boots. Spring water.

The West Country region
Exmoor: exquisite National Park beside the sea: beech trees, sheep, wheeling buzzards and heather hills, from many of which you look over the sea to Wales and its mountains. Below are the most gracefully carved of steep oak-filled valleys where rushing, bouldered little rivers are paddleable and the red deer spend the winters, and perhaps the most dream-like rose-covered cottage villages of them all, where the pace of life is leisurely. At night, marvellously unpolluted skies for stargazing (recently designated an International Dark Sky Reserve).
Porlock Vale is one of the most beautiful farmed bits of England, Dunkery must be ascended, the area of The Chains is wild and wonderful for walking or riding; the Oare valley (Lorna Doone country) is an excellent place to take Granny for a visit to tiny, fascinating Oare church, a cream tea in Malmsmead and a sunset drive afterwards through the Valley of the Rocks to Woody Bay (if you drive well). Minehead, the main town, is good for sandcastles, has a Butlins (and a good golf course and a harbour) and isn't too big. Medieval Dunster is very pretty and has a fine castle (inhabited, National Trust); Dulverton, on the southern edge of the moor and popular with artists, has interesting shops and galleries; Culbone church, one of England's smallest, is worth walking to. Lots of good food pubs in 'hidden' villages, like Luxborough, where the welcome is warm and the atmosphere relaxed.
Combe Martin: village (small pebble/rock pool beach, shops, pubs, church, wildlife park) ribboning down a valley to the sea on the edge of Exmoor. Beautiful 10 mile coast walk to Lynton/Lynmouth. Woolacombe's sand/surf beaches, 10 miles; Saunton (superb golf, beaches) and Braunton Burrows (nature reserve), 14; Ilfracombe (resort town, boats to Lundy Island), 7½.

"Wonderful Stay - Superb Cottage - Peaceful Place"
Excellent cottage, comfortable, cozy and very very well equipped. Highly recommended. Hot tub excellent, note it is closed from 8pm to 10am and closed on Thursday. You are a little in the middle o… More
Thank you very much for your feedback. We agree that it's important to know that the farm is indeed in a secluded location, and the nearest village, Coombe Martin, is about three miles away. Parracombe is also lovely, about a ten minute drive away, and when we last visited, the Fox and Goose Inn was a good choice for a proper Exmoor inn.
