About the home

Cortijo Martin is situated near the historic village of Comares and is ideal for those seeking peace and tranquility. It is also not far from the coast and is only a 50 minute drive from the lovely coastal town of Nerja, which has some lovely beaches and coves. The Cortijo is furnished to a high standard and is fully equipped. It is perfect for families or couples and we offer horse riding from our premises, a perfect way to see the beautiful countryside and stunning views. There are many bars/restaurants nearby and one within walking distance.
For winter 2011 we will be adding woodburner in the lounge to make winter bookings more cosy, for the chilly Spanish nights.

The Cortijo has a double bed in the main bedroom and double sofa bed in lounge area. The Shower room and WC is off the main bedroom. The kitchen is off the terrace so perfect for when eating al fresco! The lounge has English Sky TV with flat screen TV with DVD player and CD player/radio and we also offer Wi-fi internet.

Further details outdoors:
The Cortijo has its own private terracing on three levels with BBQ. The swimming pool is perfect for children as it is all one depth. The top terrace is perfect for those hot summer days as it is shaded by a big old Algarroba tree and gazebo. There is plenty of seating and dining facilities and not forgetting sunbeds!

Further details

We will do short breaks but minimum of 2 days. We do not allow smoking in the property but do not mind around the Cortijo. However, great care must be taken in the hot summer months as fires are easily started.

All breakages must be paid for.
Deposit of 25% to be paid upon on booking.

The Andalucia / Malaga Province region

We are situated in the Axarquia region of Andalucia. We are just under an hours drive inland from Malaga. Our nearest village is Comares and the nearest coastal town is Torre del Mar. We are only a 1hr 45min drive to Granada, home of the amazing Alhambra Palace, and about another 20min drive further on is the Sierra Nevada - great for Skiing from Dec to end of March. Seville, another great city to visit, is a 2hr drive away. Another lovely historic town, Antequera, is a 40min drive away. The lovely coastal town of Nerja is less than an hours drive away where there are many lovely restaurants and shops and some great beaches.

The Comares area

Comares is only a 25min walk from the cottage or 5min drive by car and it has stunning views of the surrounding mountains and coast. It has many bars/restaurants, supermarket, banks, chemist, post office and Tabac.
At the end of August they hold their annual feria which lasts 3 days and consists of traditional Spanish music, dancing and plenty of food and drink! Many local villages in the area hold their own ferias through the summer weeks and are well worth a visit - real Spain!

Fly to Malaga and Cortijo Martin is a 1hr car journey or fly to Granada and Cortijo Martin is 1hr 20min car journey.
All major budget airlines fly into Malaga daily and into Granada regularly.

There are many car hire companies based at the airports, which can be found on the internet.

“A little gem” My husband and I stayed at Cortijo Martin for a week just after Christmas 2011 for a warm break during the winter months. Although we have stayed in Andalucia a couple of times in the past at this time of year, this is the first time we have stayed somewhere in the hills rather than on the coast. We were not disappointed! In fact it couldnt have been lovelier - both in terms of weather and the location. The sun shone for the whole week and we had some super walks both from the cottage and in the wider Axaquia area. Although the cottage is small, it was very cosy and well equipped, made even more cosy by the new addition of the log burning stove which we enjoyed 'feeding' during the chilly evenings. We were able to sit out every morning to enjoy our breakfast with beautiful views in this tranquil location. Use of a car is essential as the cottage is a long way up very winding roads from the valley bottom, but the views make it worthwhile. Although it is possible to walk to the nearest village that has a couple of restaurants/bars (15 mins walk) you would need to drive in darker evenings as there are no street lights near the cottage and the road is quite narrow. We certainly can recommend Cortijo Martin to anyone who enjoys walking, tranquility and wonderful views!

“Idyllic cottage in real Spain with fabulous views” We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Cortijo Martin. It is just as described, in a fabulous rural location, high in the mountains near Comares. There is everything you need within the cottage for a self catering holiday, including large fridge freezer, oven, microwave, washer, BBQ etc. plus all the smaller things have been thought of including coffee maker, toaster, hair dryer, beach towels and so on. Clair even supplies the basics for when you arrive. I have only good things to say about both the cottage and family who own it. Clair, Simon and little Alex are very friendly and helpful but at the same time unobtrusive. We wanted a quiet relaxing holiday and that is what we got. We loved every minute of our holiday especially the wonderfully inviting pool and warm evenings, perfect for a BBQ. We were all sorry to leave including our 11 year old son, we were worried it would be too quiet for him, but our worries were unfounded, he had a great time. Practicalities, there is a Lidl and two other supermarkets half an hours drive away, alternatively the little supermarket in Comares is well stocked and reasonably priced. Restaurants, beaches, shopping centre and towns are only a short drive away. We will definately be returning for another holiday in the future.
