The Costa del Sol is known for its wonderful year round warm climate, and is an ideal place to visit at any time of the year. It offers something for everyone, whether you want the bustle of a busy seaside resort or the peace and tranquillity of the mountains.
The popular bustling seaside resort of Nerja, famous for its caves, is just 40mins drive away and has many good restaurants and nightlife. Granada and the famous Alhambra Palace are just over an hours drive.
Malaga city has its charming historic 'old town', and the new Picasso Museum. Seville and Cordoba, both fascination cities, are slightly further afield and an overnight stay would be recommended.
The Comares area
Comares is one of Andalucia's most picturesque and unspoilt white hill top villages, it is perched on one of the highest peaks in the Sierra de Tejeda national park and is known as the "Balcon de Axarquia". The village was of strategic importance during Moorish times and was one of the bases of Omar ben Hafsun, at the highest point of the village there are ruins of a Moorish castle.
You can feel transported back in time as the farmers still harvest the almonds, olives, grapes and raisins as their forefathers did before. The village remains unspoilt and is a fascinating place to explore, with its spectacular views, and is ideal to pop to for an excellent lazy lunch. On the 25/26/27 August there is a local fiesta with music, dancing and fireworks which sees the whole village celebrating, and they welcome everyone to come and join in, so this is a must for people who like sampling the local culture.
Velez Malaga is a typical Spanish Town with an old quarter dating back to Moorish occupation. It has an old castle La Fortaleza, of which a restored tower remains, set in pretty gardens. There are also two interesting old churches. The town has an excellent municipal market every day except Sunday, selling local produce, fish meat, vegetables and fruit. There is also a wide range of modern shops and supermarkets.

If you are looking for a peaceful location with a top quality Spanish villa, then this is it. Beautifully kept with all home comforts supplied, it has a lovely pool and terrace in its own private surroundings with stunning views across the countryside and mountains. A ten minute drive takes you to a local village where you will find two small supermarket's, two or three restaurants and a bank and pharmacy. Or you can drive half an hour to find numerous restaurants or shops selling local fresh fish, meats and wine to take back and cook at the villa, eat on the terrace and watch the sun go down. There is also a hypermarket you pass on the road from the airport. The friendly owners are nearby and are very helpful if you require local info. We enjoyed drives to beaches, chilling by the pool and local walks through the countryside. We have been several times to this villa and it never disappoints. L and R Surrey. |
