This impressive Andalucian farmhouse , located in an elevated position, amongst olive and almond groves, has the most stunning views. Overlooking the valley, across white-washed vilages, the scenery stretches across to the Tejeda mountain range. The farmhouse has been a family home for many years and in the process has been lovingly restored yet has retained many of its original features.
The rooms all have traditional beamed ceilings, many with terracotta floor tiles, open fire place/wood burning stoves, decorative wrought iron and beautiful original wooden doors. "Modern " and "comfort" have been carefully introduced. The outside of the property has extensive patios/seating areas around the pool, gardens abundant with trees and flowers, BBQ and covered eating areas for dining al-fresco. Colmenar has good bars and restaurants, local market, banks, 24 hour medical centre, small supermarkets, bakeries etc. Historic Granada and Malaga, cosmopolitan Marbella and Nerja, beaches, shopping centres, zoo s ,golf, water parks, horse riding are all an easy drive.
However if it is just relaxing by the pool in the sunshine and enjoying the beautiful views, then this is the place!

The main hub of the house is the large farmhouse kitchen with access out to the front and back of the property. This kitchen has a large farmhouse table, 5 ring cooker and oven, microwave,kettle, toaster, coffee machine, American fridge/ freezer with icemaker . A separate utility with washing machine is located outside. Also newly added this year is an outside kitchen with ceramic hob, split level grill, fridge freezer and bar
There is a cool reading lounge which leads onto a covered arched patio with air con and fabulous views. Also a separate dining room with traditional antique dining table and chairs . The spacious lounge has comfy sofas, a 4 metre stretch of french doors taking in the spectacular views day or night ,an open fire and 42 inch flat screen sat TV/DVD.
The lounge also has fans, a selection of books, game and Cd's.
There is one double bedroom located downstairs close to a full bathroom with bath and shower. The stairs and galleried landing lead to a large master bedroom with spectacular views, Juliette balcony, full en-suite bathroom , king size bed and air con/heating. The second bedroom has twin beds and Juliette balcony over looking the grounds and olive groves, also air/con/heating. The third bedroom has twin beds , double aspect windows and air con/heating. Both twin bedrooms share a shower room with toilet and WC. The fourth bedroom is located on the ground floor, has a double bed , fans and a bathroom close by.

The gardens are planted with mediterranean flowers, shrubs and palm trees enhancing the extensive outside space this lovely farmhouse offers.
From the pool and patios there are spectacular views across the beautiful countryside. At night the villages can be see twinkling in the distance. There are plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas, umbrellas and places to sit and relax. An covered shaded dining area and an outside dinng area. The small courtyard offers cool shade , a reprise from the midday sun.
The house also has another lovely arched patio again with our fantastic views and a small garden . This is located from the sun lounge or kitchen and is ideal again for relaxing and there is ample seating.
Children can play on the play area with a tree house, swings, trampoline & clinbing frame and there is a new table tennis table located on the spacious main patio by the pool.
The property is located down our private track directly off a good tarmac road. There is ample parking on arrival to the property at the rear of the house.
We have another independant rental property located below the farmhouse which shares ONLY the drive and carpark . It has its own seperate entrance which leads down to the villa and has its own private pool and gardens. This can be rented out in addition to the farmhouse for larger parties of up to 14 persons in total. This villa does not encroach on any of property of the farmhouse and each remains totally independant.
The farmhouse is situated on an estate of 8 acres of private land with almond trees , olive trees and paths leading down to a small orange and lemon grove, ideal for short walks or adventurous children..
Weekly rentals are based on a maximum of 8 persons plus cot and must be those confirmed on the original booking.
Cleaned to a high standard, we maintain the pool and gardens ourselves on a regular basis, but discretion is always paramount. Fresh linen and towels are provided on a weekly basis. Pool towels INCLUDED
We request a security/breakages deposit on arrival of £150/150 euros which is returned in full at the end of the stay providing there are no breakages etc.
Arrival/departure day is Saturday from mid June to mid September, however we can be flexible out of main season so please ask if alternative days required
We can provide starter packs eg. milk, eggs, cheese, bread, beer etc . Also a childrens pack of high chair, cot , toys can be provided, please request on booking.
The property has an information pack and we are always available for any help or advice..

The Andalucia region
This region is well known for it long hot summers but is ideal for winter breaks due to the mild and ofen sunny winters.
The area has a wealth of places to visit, historic cities, beaches, golf courses etc. The famous cities of Granada, Cordoba and Ronda are an easy day trip as are Antequera, Nerja, and its caves and cosmopolitan Marbella.
To the west of Malaga there are beach resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmadena with its huge award winning marina, fishings trips and Fuengirola.
To the East are the Spanish resorts of Torre del Mar with long promenades for walks and local fish restaurants, Torrox and Nerja with its famous"Balcon de Europa", caves and good shops and restaurants. Burriana beach for water sports and the famous paella.
The coast has very good shopping centres, zoos, water parks, local markets, horse and flamenco shows, an abundanceof golf courses, amusement parks etc. The main city of Malaga has a very beautiful cathederal and an old quarter with tapas bars and local music, an old castle with views over the port and a paseo with city gardens and walks along with horse drawn carriages. The shopping is also very good.
The airport is only a 30 minute drive from the property, as is the main bus/train station.
The local village of Colmenar is known as the capital of the Axarquia region of Andalucia. It derives its name from the beehive or "colmena" and its organic honey can be bought today. The village also has a honey museum showing the process of collecting and producing the local honey.
The village lies in an elevated position with a church at the very top of the vllage. The views from here of the surrounding area are superb. Colmenar has a very good selection of tapas bars, restaurants, bakers, butchers, small supermarkets, chemist, 24 hour medical centre , banks and a weekly fresh fruit and veg market.
It is also well connected by good roads to the motorway junction only kms away making it an ideal base for touring and for easy day trips sightseeing.
The village has 2 main festivals, one in February and one in August although all the surrounding villages also have their own festivals. The Spanish always have something to celebrate!
Colmenar is close to the villages of Rio Gordo, Alfernate and the beautiful hilltop village of Comares.
There is a small local park, huge municipal swimming pool and a great area for country walks.
A small riding stable is located a few miles away, 2 larger ones approx 35 mins and the area is also idea for birdwatching, walking and bike riding.
The Montes de Malaga national park has lovely cool walks in the pine forests and the Torcal National Park with its fabulous rock formations is good for walks and picnics.
The area really has something for everybody, but it is also ideal for relaxing and taking the slow pace of life in the Andalucian countryside in the beautiful sunshine!

"A little bit of heaven!"
My partner and I visited the bustling little town of Colmenar for the first time last year and loved it so much decided to return.
Lagar El Buho is a large beautifully restored farmhouse retaining all the original character, coupled with all the facilities of modern day living (Sky TV, Internet etc.) - A real home from home experience!!
We were greeted on arrival by the owner Angela with a welcome pack of goodies and a guided tour of her lovely home.
Angela is an excellent host and provided us with some good tips on places to visit and local places to eat. Table Mountain on the way to Comares and Bar Bartola in Colmenar itself, are highly recommended for both atmosphere and food and we understand La Rosilla who deliver food to the villa are superb - unfortunately we didn't book in advance.
The farmhouse itself is set in a stunning and peaceful location with views to die for (even from
the bathroom), it's difficult to tear yourself away from the setting, particularly with such a great outside dining area and modern electric barbecue.
All in all a fantastic holiday and highly recommended. Can't wait to see you soon Angela & Harry!! X

"Do not not miss the opportunity to book this place !"
Lagar El Buho is exactly what it says it is - even better. We travel every year and this place is top of our list to-date. Book it ! Angela is a such a wonderful hostess. Certainly do not miss ordering in authentic Spanish meals from both Nicole and from Lindsay - fabulous. The farmhouse is about 25 minutes North of Malaga and very centrally situated - we visited many towns and villages, beaches and historic sites on our many day trips. For sure you need to visit the outdoor pedestrian shopping/restaurant area in Malaga. And don't miss the goat herder that passes by the farmhouse with his +/- 200 goats and his 2 little pigs (boars actually) - what a treat ! We would not hesitate to visit again. Book it - you will not be disappointed !

"Stunning views, peace and tranquility"
A fantastic week in this gorgeous, comfortable, authentic farmhouse. We wanted to get away from it all and were not disappointed. There are other guests nearby, but the accommodation is sited very sensitively, so you hardly know that they are there.
The view is amazing. In the afternoon the tinkle of bells can be heard as the goatherd brings his goats home across the campo. We do not usually spend time by the pool when on holiday, but it was hard to tear ourselves away. Sipping a glass of wine on the terrace as the sun set, then watching the moon rise over the mountains became a nightly ritual. The night sky is full of stars and the little towns across the valley twinkle in the distance.
Colmenar and Comares are great small towns within a short distance and the weekly market in Colmenar was fun - excellent quality fruit and veg at a fraction of the price you pay in the UK. Granada and Cordoba are within easy driving distance, but, as we'd visited them previously, we just stayed put and enjoyed relaxing, swimming and reading.
All in all, we couldn't recommend this place highly enough, though we are a bit reluctant to do so in case everybody gets to know about this largely undiscovered gem of a region. Hasta pronto!
