The Costa del Sol/Malaga region

The Axarquia, as this area is known, is one of the many secrets of Andalucia and the "Real Spain". Stunning scenery, Moorish history, lakes and beautiful Natural Parks. The famous "pueblos blancos" white villages stretch lazily across the valleys offering respite from the midday sun. Cool streets and alleyways wind through out offering wonderful arrays of local delicacies in the tapas bars and restaurants.

The historic cities of Granada and Cordoba as well as Ronda are all well worth a visit. The more cosmopolitan towns of Marbella and Nerja offer a mixture of historic and modern, good shopping and beaches. Also the Axarquia is a nature lovers paradise with wonderful walks, scenery, and particularly in the spring a vast selection of birds and beautiful flowers.

The weather is wonderfully hot and dry in the summer months. Winters are mild, at times wet (not often!) but still very bright sunny days. The autumn and spring are still very warm and bring many seasonal changes to the lovely landscape.

Colmenar area

Locally there are plenty of things to keep you busy if you really want to leave the relaxing comfort of the pool and villa! Antequera is a lovely old historic town with numerous churches, the famous "Dolmas" and beautiful views from the highest point.

Comares, the highest village with fabulous views down to the coast, was an old Moorish fortress with some original parts still intact. There are numerous water parks, shopping centres and leisure parks within an easy drive. Horse riding is available, cycling, walking, bird watching or just exploring the local villages.

Many of the local villages have wonderful, colourful festivals in the summer months, well worth a visit. Colmenar itself is famous for its local honey (the name Colmena means bee hive) and also taste the local wine, traditionally made with the local grapes and nothing added - except maybe a head ache later!

The Torcal Natural Park with its amazing natural stone structures and the extensive pine forests of the Montes de Malaga are also great for walking. But hey, you could just stay put and relax and soak up the tranquil magic (and sun) of this wonderful area!
