The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
The region benefits from a Mediterranean climate - meaning hot, sunny and relatively dry summers and mild winters along the coast. The region is known for its diversity of local produce and has many delicious local dishes to try. The region is one of the world's greatest in wine-making, with seemingly every village having a cooperative wine cellar.
The area has a rich, cultural heritage with many beautiful places to visit including Carcassonne and the Pont du Gard. Historical towns and villages such as Pezenas and Nimes are also worth visiting. The region offers an extensive range of attractions and activites to suit every taste.
Collioure area
Collioure offers the visitor many sporting activities: such as sailing, diving, excursions, tennis, horse riding, and even a 27 hole International golf course all found within a 20 minute radius of the town. If you can steal yourself away from the town, there are many excursions available whether by sea or road.
Enjoy strolling through the back streets of Collioure to discover the many restaurants, art galleries and craft shops. The town hosts a magical market twice a week; a real treat for the visitor.
Collioure, immortalised by famous artists such as Picasso, Matisse and Derain, who spent many summers in the town, often paying their bills with the sale of their paintings. Charles Rennie Mackintosh spent many summers living in Faubourg within Collioure, spending his winters at the hotel Le Commerce in the neighbouring attractive town of Port-Vendres, which is still a very busy, commercial port with lively bars and restaurants. These famous artists have left such a mark in Collioure.
