The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Collioure is in French Catalonia, in the Banyuls wine region. It is acknowledged as the "gem" of authentic French coastal towns first made famous by great artists such as Derain and Masisse, and Collioure is still being painted by today's artists. With no high rise, it attracts visitors for its beautiful ambience even in Autumn and Winter. Collioure's harbour and beaches are dominated by the great Chateau Royale, the Summer palace of the Kings of Mallorca, and the extraordinary church built out into the sea. There is a fine modern art museum close to the apartment. Collioure is at the foot of the Pyreenees and wiithin 30 minutes of the Spanish Border along the spectacular coast road. Barcerlona is 21/2hours by motorway. Other nearby attractions include the perfect medieval town of Villefranche de Conflent, the wide sandy beaches and watersports of Argeles sur Mer, and the waterpark at St. Cyprien.
Collioure area
Strolling through Collioure's narrow pedestrianised streets you can discover many restaurants, art galleries and craft shops. The beaches and harbour walks are popular day and night and you may also walk beneath the cliffs to Port Vendres, or up past the windmill to Fort St. Elme on the hill. Collioure has a dive school and offers boat excursions to the nearby Marine Nature Reserve. The largest of Collioure's five beaches, Port d'Avall, is about 75 metres away from the apartment along a quiet safe street which passes under the main road. All shops, boulangerie, cafe, and restaurants are the same short walking distance along the beautiful harbour-front. Markets are held twice weekly, Wednesday and Sunday/

The apt has been really comfortable. The balcony is wonderful- the cuckoo and the nightingale accompanied all our meals. Ros and Ian Syers.
