The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The area of Languedoc-Roussillon is a beautiful verdant region of Southern France , surrounded by the Pyrenees. The warm Mediterranean sea laps onto the beaches of Collioure & the sun shines for about 320 days of the year.
Collioure is steeped in history. The large medieval fortress in the centre of the town is built on a prehistoric site & the beautiful clock tower also has a long history. The little town has kept its old narrow streets & the fisherman still go out from the bays in search of Anchovies.
When the sun shines, the soft terracotta colours of the houses take on a special clarity in the unusually clear light. It is this unbelievable light that attracted painters such as Durain & Matisse to come & work in Collioure in the early part of the 20th century.
Perpignan is within easy reach & is a very attractive compact city. For those who enjoy shopping, there are some very attractive shops that are well worth a visit. Along the river are plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy the food & watch the world go by.
Drive into the Pyrennean foothills, enjoy some spectacular scenery & visit the stunning gorge on the way.
Argeles, just 3 miles away, has miles of sandy beaches, a lovely promenade walk that leads to the marina where you can sit & enjoy the views.
In Collioure, when it comes to restaurants, you are spoilt for choice. Sit in the old square underneath the plane trees, choose a table facing the bay or go in to one of the many little restaurants in the narrow medieval streets. They are all delightful.
A well as swimming in the Collioure bays, there are boat trips available & deep sea diving. These are all popular.
Take a breathtaking ride in the 'Petit Train', up into the hills & over to Port Vendre, a pretty town dominated by its port, just 3 miles away.
Take advantage of the hills surrounding Collioure & walk up past the windmill to the 'castle in the sky'. The views of the sea & hills is spectacular

This apartment has absolutely everything you could need, comfortable and clean. The parking was a bit of a mare but it was the middle of August and a festival on! Did mean moving the car a few times. … More

"A comfortable flat with a fantastic view!"
Other than the nine flights of stairs to go down to center of Collioure, this was a fantastic place to stay next to the train station and a 10 minute walk to town. The place was very bright and comfortable, with all the right amenities. It was actually my husband and I, and our 2 adult boys, ages 23 and 26 that stayed at the flat. We enjoyed the balcony and at night it was beautiful to see the lights of the city and on the fort on top of the hill. We loved the big sliding glass doors and every view was like you were living in a postcard. Thanks Ann for being so accommodating and hopefully some day we will go back.
Thank you for your very kind comments about the flat and Colloure. We've double checked the number of steps and there are only 6 sets which is good news (it only takes me about 10 minutes to climb them, and I'm 65… it takes my daughter 6 mins when nipping out to collect the pain au chocolat in the morning!).

"Our holiday in lovely Collioure"
We found the apartment to be clean and fully equipped with everything you would need. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom modern with a lovely shower. The terrace was long and narrow but large enough for a table and chairs for dining al fresco with a panoramic view of the hills and sea to one side.
It was well situated in Collioure - being above the train station (via quite a few steps) and just a stroll from the town. There was another route into town which took longer but which was step-free - not worth driving as its not far and the town's busy.
We hired a car which gave us the freedom to go further inland but transport links are really good.
Tips - Bus - you can take a bus for1 euro to a few places. We got it to Argeles Sur Mer and came back by boat (5 euros).
We thought the best beach was at Canet Plage - just north of Argeles which we drove to.
Trains run from Colliour regularly to Perpignan and into Spain.
There is a very good City Carrefour in Collioure which has pretty much everthing you will need and there is a good market every Sunday and Wednesday.

"Fantastic location with great views"
The apartment is in a great location and the views from the balcony, of mountains and sea, are fantastic. Well-equipped kitchen and loved the sliding doors on to the balcony.
