The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The most sunny part of France, and not as commercial and overrun by tourists and cars as the Riviera.
Lots of cultural and historical attractions within driving distance and excellent public transport available throughout the region. A car isn't necessary as Collioure is well served by buses (1 Euro per trip), and trains.
Perpignan is the regional capital with many cultural festivals and events. In nearby Ceret you find the Musee d'Art Moderne. Castelnou village, Tautavel (the prehistoric man), Carcassonne, the Dalimuseum in Figueres and the fantastic city Barcelona in Spain can easily be reached by car or train. A trip in the Pyrenees might include the Canigou mountain (1 Euro bus ride) and a visit to Andorra.
The Collioure / Moure area
Collioure, an idyllic place on the rocky coastline, is situated in the very south of France, 26 km from the Spanish border. The picturesque village is nestled in an authentic environment. Its small Catalan harbor is sheltered by a quiet bay where the chain or the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean Sea. It gets more hours of sun than any region in France. The exceptionally sunny climate and the north wind “Tramontane” makes Collioure a unique place where well-being and Catalan "art de vivre" have their origins. You can count on having a splendid swim at one of the small coves and several sand and pebble beaches.
The colourful pedestrian streets are a maze of twists and turns as they step up from the seafront. Stroll amongst these and discover the restaurants, galleries and shops selling local items. Sit and have an aperitif at one of the bars around the bay. Enjoy the safe beaches on this beautiful Mediterranean coastline. Shop at the twice weekly market and enjoy fresh oysters and wine. Admire the local historical architecture including the impressive Chateau Royal, and medieval Eglise Notre-Dame-des-Anges that sits in the bay. Take lessons at the local diving school or go sea fishing. Sail around the Mediterranean on day excursions. Tour the Cathar castles and visit fortified Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage site . Appreciate the vibrant Catalan culture, festivals, dance, art and food.
Collioure has always been a source of inspiration for artists. Writers, poets, singers and painters fell under Collioure’s charm. Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy Chagall, Marquet, and many others set up their easels here and immortalized the small Catalan harbor in their works. Follow the marked route known as Chemin du Fauvisme, or take a guided tour, through the streets of Collioure passing the views painted by Matisse and Derain. With approximately thirty art galleries and many artists from all over the entire world, Collioure still is the ”City of Painters.”
"In France there is no sky as blue as the one in Collioure...I just have to close the shutters of my room and I have all the colours of the Mediterranean before me." --- HENRI MATISSE

"An lovely appartment in the heart of Collioure."
A charming appartment run by a charming gentleman in a charming location. Eddie is a most accomodating host, he met us at the station, showed us around Collioure helped us decide on places to visit and places to eat. The apartment is charming in the old part of Collioure and a step away from the beach. It was spacious, well equipped and is a relaxing place to be at the end of a day in the sun. I would not hesitate in recommending it to family and friends, A lovely holiday, Thankyou and one which we would hope to repeat in the coming years.

Eddie is a great host and was very helpful ! He makes the stay in Collioure a very memorable one. It was the highlight of our 7 week Europe vacation.
We would highly recommend Collioure and this apartment and hope to come back again from Australia in the next couple of years .

"Very central and convenient flat - 50 steps from the beach!"
We absolutely loved both Collioure and the flat which had everything we needed for a relaxed and comfortable stay! The location of the flat was perfect for us, we love staying close to everything. And the city of Collioure has now sailed up as a favourite. Dear Eddie: you are a wonderful host who is there if needed, and also respect privacy. Thank you!
We thank you for staying with us and hope that you will return to 10 Rue Mailly again soon. It was a pleasure having you stay with us. Next time we must try to get you a little involved in the local music scene ... had you been here a little longer we might have had you perform with some of our musician friends. We trust Benjamin and Ada have happy memories of Collioure. Many thanks. Eddie & Aine

"What's Not To Like?!""
I thoroughly enjoyed a week in this clean, comfortable, inviting apartment with my wife and teenage daughter. It provided everything we needed for a fair price and felt much like a home away from home. More importantly for me, it features one of the greatest locations in Collioure - the most beautiful part of town, literally one minute from the most attractive beach, and close to virtually everything Collioure has to offer! And most importantly, the owner is a real person (rather than a revenue-maximizing business hawk in a remote underground lair), living in town, offering you help with anything you need as a visitor, and actually meaning it. Eddie Martin is a kind and caring individual, who is genuinely interested in his guests as people and enjoys sharing his ample supply of life experiences with them during a home-cooked dinner on the beach. I am very much looking forward to returning in the future!
It was a real pleasure having you stay with us. Aine and I very much enjoyed your company ... thank you for sharing a meal with us on the beach, even though you did miss an important world cup match! I do hope you find your way back to us in Collioure; it is always nice to entertain guests who so obviously know how to enjoy their Collioure vacation ... please do come back, and again, thank you for staying in our apartment. Eddie and Aine

"Warm welcome, relaxing place, perfect location."
Where do I start? Well, location, location, location they say, and 10 Rue Mailly could not be better situated. Literally in the best place for all the quaint shops, bars and restaurants. Just 30 paces… More
How do I thank you for going to so much trouble to write a review which gives nice pointers to guests visiting Collioure, and for being so warm and generous in your recommendation of our apartment. I don't have to tell you how both Aine and I hope that you do come back to Collioure ... we missed you when you left, as Aine says, "such genuine kind warm people." She enjoyed meeting you, and I think you managed to get her relaxed during her difficult exam period. By the way, her last exam is tomorrow, and when she gets the results I'll let you know. In the meantime, bless you both and your family. Eddie & Aine

"Modern comfort and ease in an ancient town"
It is very easy to slip into the rhythm of this unique place. Whether you are an artist, a history buff, a gawker, or just a curious traveller, Collioure has it all; and Eddie's apartment in the old town allows you to enjoy it with all the comforts of your own home, for your brief stay. The charm includes Eddie himself. He is a warm and personable host, enthusiastic to suggest adventures both in and out of the town, and eager to enhance your visit in any way possible.
Definitely a gem...the town, the rental, and the host.
What a delight it was for Aine and I to have the chance of welcoming you to Collioure, and thank you for the invitation to visit you in Canada. Most of all, we would love to have the opportunity of seeing you here again, and perhaps the next time for a somewhat longer stay. Also, thank you for the generous review; I think your review reflects what wonderful guests you were. We'll keep in touch.

"Couldn't want any more!"
My wife and I spent the entire month of February in Collioure and loved every single minute. Eddie's apartment is placed perfectly to enjoy this special place. And Eddie and his daughter are very special people and great communicators! The apartment was our "home" and we used our kitchen every day. Market days are Wednesday and Sunday which were excellent for all things fresh and the stores provided everything else we needed. The weather was also a surprise and wonderful. We will return to Collioure and this apartment.
Thank you so much for your visit. Both Aine and I enjoyed your company when you dropped by for a glass of wine and we would love to see you both again in Collioure ... you were terrific guests and what was wonderful was to see how you made yourselves so at home in Collioure. Again, thank you. Eddie & Aine
