The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

The most sunny part of France, and not as commercial and overrun by tourists and cars as the Riviera.
Lots of cultural and historical attractions within driving distance and excellent public transport available throughout the region. A car isn't necessary as Collioure is well served by buses (1 Euro per trip), and trains.
Perpignan is the regional capital with many cultural festivals and events. In nearby Ceret you find the Musee d'Art Moderne. Castelnou village, Tautavel (the prehistoric man), Carcassonne, the Dalimuseum in Figueres and the fantastic city Barcelona in Spain can easily be reached by car or train. A trip in the Pyrenees might include the Canigou mountain (1 Euro bus ride) and a visit to Andorra.
The Collioure / Moure area
The Collioure / Moure area
Collioure, an idyllic place on the rocky coastline, is situated in the very south of France, 26 km from the Spanish border. The picturesque village is nestled in an authentic environment. Its small Catalan harbor is sheltered by a quiet bay where the chain or the Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean Sea. It gets more hours of sun than any region in France. The exceptionally sunny climate and the north wind “Tramontane” makes Collioure a unique place where well-being and Catalan "art de vivre" have their origins. You can count on having a splendid swim at one of the small coves and several sand and pebble beaches.
The colourful pedestrian streets are a maze of twists and turns as they step up from the seafront. Stroll amongst these and discover the restaurants, galleries and shops selling local items. Sit and have an aperitif at one of the bars around the bay. Enjoy the safe beaches on this beautiful Mediterranean coastline. Shop at the twice weekly market and enjoy fresh oysters and wine. Admire the local historical architecture including the impressive Chateau Royal, and medieval Eglise Notre-Dame-des-Anges that sits in the bay. Take lessons at the local diving school or go sea fishing. Sail around the Mediterranean on day excursions. Tour the Cathar castles and visit fortified Carcassonne, a UNESCO World Heritage site . Appreciate the vibrant Catalan culture, festivals, dance, art and food.
Collioure has always been a source of inspiration for artists. Writers, poets, singers and painters fell under Collioure’s charm. Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy Chagall, Marquet, and many others set up their easels here and immortalized the small Catalan harbor in their works. Follow the marked route known as Chemin du Fauvisme, or take a guided tour, through the streets of Collioure passing the views painted by Matisse and Derain. With approximately thirty art galleries and many artists from all over the entire world, Collioure still is the ”City of Painters.”
"In France there is no sky as blue as the one in Collioure...I just have to close the shutters of my room and I have all the colours of the Mediterranean before me." --- HENRI MATISSE

Loved this apartment right in the centre of town, comfortable well equipped and clean. Collioure is a beautiful and interesting town with very good shops for all food....just remember a lot of them close for extended lunch break. There are great walks in the area and very good restaurants.. for something different try L`Arbre du Voyageur Restaurant at Place Jean Jaurez . What makes this holiday property very special is Eddie the owner. Fab welcome pack of essentials and some treats as well on arrival. If you fancy having your dinner on the beach one evening just ask Eddie! The property and area description is accurate and because this owner has such a personal interest in the area he has a wealth of information to pass on to his tenants. Quite honestly, one of the best holidays ever for me Looking forward to going back Response: Thank you for your review and we look forward very much to welcoming you again. |

My daughter and I stayed in this apartment back in october 2011. We were most impressed with the cleanliness of the accomodation, the warm reception received. The location is superb right in the centre of town yet the apartment is quiet, it's 3 minutes to the beaches hence we had plenty of swimming and easy public transport to nearby towns. The friendliness of the local people touched our hearts and we will certainly go back this year. Response: Thank you for reviewing our apartment and we are delighted you had wonderful holiday. It was a great pleasure having you, and we looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future. |
Guestbook for 10 Rue Mailly
A lovely week
Really enjoyed our stay here. The location is fantastic, right in the centre of town and just off the seafront and 5-10 minutes walk from the railway. Good apartment for our 14 month old daughter who loved checking out the people passing below the window; the apartment is on the first floor.
A clean well equipped apartment and the owner Eddie is the personification of hospitality, very helpful with tips about the area and very kind.
Collioure is a lovely pretty town and it's easy to get around using bus or train to visit the many attractions in the area
Fantastic place right in the heart of the town

We had a fantastic time in a stunning location
We loved our week in Collioure. We were travelling with our 8 and 10 year old daughters. The flat was cosy and so close to the sea. It was a real pleasure coming out each morning to such stunning views. The flat is in a perfect location to explore from, though we thought Collioure itself was the prettiest coastal town we saw.
Eddie, the owner, was a great host and took very good care of us - even getting us a week's parking permit for when we got there, which was a great help.
Great French apartment
This is a fantastic apartment for couples or a group of 4 and suitable for kids. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Collioure allowing easy access to all the local ammenities and sights. Being close to the beach would be a wonderful advantage in the warmer months.
The apartment itself is excellent: very clean with all in working order. The kitchen has everything you would need for an extended stay. Although about a street, the bustle below is not a problem. I would certainly come back to stay at this place.
A Bit of Paradise
Great place for walking. Make sure you check out the market days. The nearby shops and restaurants are fabulous and the wine is not bad either!
I will definately be back.
