Rue Michelet
About the home
This apartment is for families and couples. It strengths include its location within the Old Town (about 20 metres from the market square) and features of the apartment itself. These include:
• its spaciousness (3 good-sized double bedrooms and an equally roomy dining-living area and kitchen)
• the delightful and very private outside garden/courtyard area
• the stylish interior and beautiful light inside the house (with views from most rooms to the hills and the town).
Important too in Collioure is that it is wonderfully quiet – the market place, the beaches, cafes and restaurants, galleries and other shops can be absolutely humming…but you take a few short steps and are in a tranquil home away from home. (See 'further details' below for more on what makes it special.)

Further details indoors:
This apartment is on the top (third) floor of a house opposite the market place. Access is via easy external steps (see photo).
Features previous renters have commented on (in addition to those highlighted under ‘home description’) include the quality finishings and extra little touches (eg. the light fittings) – these reflect the owners’ own experiences as experienced travellers. Nicci, your point of contact, has extensive experience in the travel industry (firstly in her homeland New Zealand and in Fiji and then in the UK and Europe more broadly).
The apartment was fully renovated in winter-spring 2007, so is fresh, bright and maintained to a high standard.
With reverse cycle air conditioning, the apartment is perfect for visits not only in summer when Collioure is a prized holiday location but also in each of the other seasons, including winter when Collioure shows a much more private side of itself.
Further details outdoors:
Whilst this apartment is on the 3rd level of a house, it has a private garden area on this level (the house is built against a large rock and essentially the house is on top of the rock). It is very private and tranquil and the light is superb. This garden area is very rare in rental properties in the old town. This outdoor area is one of the key hightlights to this property and what is most enjoyed by all clients over the last 3 years.

Rental is by the week with changeover days being Saturdays (although between October and April, inclusive) changeover may be possible at other times of week to fit with cheaper airline travel dates.

Fly to Perpignan (30 mins away), Girona or Carcassone (1.25 hours away) from Stanstead, or from Ireland fly to either Girona or Carcassone (all by Ryanair). Aer Lingus also flies to Barcelona or Toulouse (2.5 hours). Car hire is easily available at each airport, or there is an excellent train and bus service from Perpignan to Collioure. A car is not necessary to enjoy Collioure, but there are many interesting places nearby to visit if you have one!
Until Louis XIV acquired the Roussillon at the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659 the province belonged to Spain. The castle of St Elme immediately above the house was built by the Emperor Charles V in 1530. The Catalan language, formerly spoken by almost all the inhabitants of Collioure, can still be heard in the narrow winding streets.
The Collioure area
Collioure is the jewel of the Cote Vermeille. It has a perfect small harbour, on one side a 12C Chateau Royal and the other a fortified church. In the immediate area there are 4 very good beaches. Behind the beach, a delightful maze of narrow streets, with cafes, bars, artists' galleries and shops. There are many walks through the foothills of the Pyrenees through beautiful vineyards and olive groves. Summer time has regular boat trips to Argeles sur Mer or Port Vendres and Banyuls.
Market days are Wednesdays and Sundays. They feature high quality local produce. In summer there are a variety of concerts, fetes and street theatre. Being in the Catalan area, Collioure is enriched by both French and Spanish influences. It is famous for artists such as Matisse, Durain and Picasso, and writers such as Patrick O'Brian; also for anchovies, wine, absolute charm and beauty, and more than 320 days of sunshine per annum.

We love Collioure and this flat was great for a party of family and friends as it was so near the town and meant we could all do our own thing. It is not noisy though and has a sweet garden. |

We have just come back from a week at this appartement and I have to say how extremely disappointed we were. The floors were dirty, the bathroom was small with a broken light and door, the TV did... more |

The apartment was roomy, airy, well furnished and in a perfect position – very near everything and everywhere! Although the weather wasn't good enough for us to use the little garden during our week we could see that it would be a real asset in better weather. The agents, who live in the flat below, were very friendly and helpful, particularly regarding parking which can be a problem in Collioure even in May. We understand that the old bullring near the station is being replaced by a large parking area so this should be less of a problem in the future. Nicci provided a folder of useful local information which was very useful and Bane, the agent, was always ready with help and advice. The only downside was the bathroom which did not meet the high standard of the rest of the apartment – it was clean but small and cramped and the shower was far from user friendly! Would we go back to this apartment? Yes, definitely! |
