Home description

This 1st floor apartment is newly decorated in a contemporary style, with open plan living/dining/kitchen area. There are 2 spacious bedooms, one with a double bed and one with 2 single beds; there is a sofa bed in the living area for a family with a third child, if required. The gardens and pools are meticulously maintained by the resident concierge. While only a short stroll to the beach, shops and restaurants, the apartments are very peaceful, set at the foot of a vine-covered hill crowned with a fairytale castle (floodlit at night).

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

Languedoc Roussilon, stretching from the Pyrenees to Provence and north to the Massif Central, has many attractions for the visitor, such as the old Roman town of Nimes, the ancient walled city of Carcassonne and the famous Canal du Midi, all within easy reach of Collioure. Trips, either by car or train, reveal a dramatic landscape of mountain and gorge, valleys of vine and fruit trees, and the beautiful long sandy beaches of the region. For lovers of history, ancient architecture and archaeology, the region is alive with possibilities. For the wine lover, a huge investment in recent years has really put the area on the map and the local wines are well worth sampling.

Collioure area

Collioure, the gem of the Côte Vermeille, is a picture postcard perfect town with its toes in the ocean yet sheltered by the mountains behind, providing opportunities for walking and hiking. The art lover will have no difficulty recognising scenes immortalised by Matisse and Derain the great Fauvist artists who spent many summers in Collioure. At all times a visit to the town is an authentic experience, with the locals fiercely proud of their Catalan heritage. Many still speak the language, and the traditional dance (The Sardane) is very popular and displays are common during the summer. There is a colourful market every Wednesday and Sunday morning, with an abundance of local produce. The most spectacular celebration of the summer is on St. Johns Eve (late June) when the local children carry the flame from Canigou (the sacred mountain) to ignite a great bonfire on the beach, ending with an exciting fireworks display over the bay - a great carnival athmosphere for all the family. In season, a journey on the Little Yellow Train through the vineyards and over the hill to the neighbouring town of Port Vendres is a must! Another treat is a trip under sail out on the bay, where you may even catch a glimpse of Canigou still snowcapped up to mid-summer. Day trips to Barcelona, the Dali Museum in Figueras, or the Museum of Modern Art in Ceret are other possibilities. On the other hand there are 4 beaches in Collioure, art galleries and plenty of enticing little shops and boutiques in pretty cobbled streets, with cafes and restaurants everywhere - so the choice is endless...........

How to get there

Fly to Perpignan (30 mins away), Gerona or Carcassonne (1.5 hours away) from Stanstead, or from Ireland fly to either Gerona or Carcassonne (all by Ryanair). Aer Lingus also flies to Barcelona or Toulouse (2.5 hours). Car hire is easily available at each airport, or there is an excellent train and bus service from Perpignan to Collioure. A car is not necessary to enjoy Collioure, but there are many interesting places nearby to visit if you have one!

The apartment is bright and well appointed, with new furniture and appliances. The balcony is accessed through both the kitchen and one of the bedrooms.

Further details outdoors:
Tennis and table tennis racquets are provided in the apartment. There are 2 pools - one is for young children, the other does not have a shallow end (see photo). The pools are unsupervised. There is access from the residence to the local Museum and to the path which leads up the hill to the windmill and castle (for the energetic)!

Swimming Pool is open daily from 9.00am to 7.00p.m. from mid-June to mid- Sept and is restricted to residents.

Saturday is changeover day; the apartment must be vacated by 10.00am to facilitate cleaning.

Conditions

.A deposit of one third of the tarrif is required at time of booking, this secures the booking and acts as a damage deposit during your stay. At the end of your stay, assuming no damage, this deposit is returned in full.
The main payment is required six weeks before arrival. Payment by Sterling or Euros acceptable.
