The Brittany / Cotes-D'Armor region

Brittany is an area of outstanding natural beauty and charm with a magnificent rugged coastline, beautiful sandy beaches, and attractive rolling countryside, reminiscent of Cornwall, but without the crowds. There are numerous historic places of interest to visit including the medieval cities of Dinan and St Malo and a little further afield in Normandy, the spectacular Le Mont St Michel, well worth the journey if you haven’t been before.
For the energetic a wide variety of sports and activities are available including golf, horse riding, various water sports, fishing, hiking and cycling. During the summer months there are several established festivals worth attending including a medieval fair that alternates between Dinan and Moncontour, and a popular open air jazz festival in Langourla.
If your inclination is to eat out there are many great restaurants to try out with a good variety of culinary styles including the traditional Breton crepe washed down with cider. Alternatively the local markets and supermarkets are a great source of local produce if you fancy cooking that favourite meal or having a barbecue
The Collinee / St Gilles du Mene area
Collinee is the nearest local town to St Gilles at 6.5km and it has several banks, a post office, chemist, supermarket and various other shops. St Gilles has two stores which supply most of the day-to-day needs including bread, and there are two bars and a restaurant open during the day. The village is set on the side of a hill and is fairly typical of the area with a church, Marie and local school. Les Bruyeres is positioned at the edge of the village but conveniently only a short walk from the shops and bars.
In the surrounding area are the towns of Pleme and Plessala, both with big supermarkets and restaurants, and Loudeac is the nearest large town which has a very good swimming pool as well a good selection of shops. Local activities include fishing and horse riding, there is a local lake for water sports, and the surrounding countryside is ideal for walking and cycling
