The area is rich in history, with many ruined castles as a result of the changing border between 2 great nations.
The River Tweed divides Scotland from England, with North Northumberland (Englands secret treasure) just a stones throw from Coldstream. This region has spectacular unspoilt sandy beaches, famous picture postcard castles like Bamburgh and Alnwick, and boat trips to the Farne islands & Holy Island, or Lindisfarne, whose access road is cut off at high tide- All of these attractions are only 30 mins drive away.
The Coldstream area
The border town of Coldstream sits on the northern bank of the River Tweed and is the famous home of the Coldstream Guards. There are is a wide variety of shops, with golf course within a 5 minute walk, fishing nearby on the River Tweed (daily permits available to buy) , horse riding, quad biking, swimming pool all nearby, something everyone to do. The Hirsel Estate and with its own lake and craft shops is a 10 minute walk away. The cottage has a great location for people looking to explore the wider area of the Borders or Scotland.
Across the road is the local viewpoint in town where you can see the beautiful roaming Cheviot Hills and meandering River Tweed.. Relaxing walks along the River Tweed are only a few minutes from the cottage.
