The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
From the mountains of the Sierras to the beaches of the Costa del Sol, from the whitewashed pueblo villages to the jet-set playgrounds of Marbella and Puerto Banus, from ancient Moorish castles to championship golf courses, this part of Spain is an ideal destination, whether you seek rural idyll or cosmopolitan excess.
Villa las Brisas is in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas with stunning views of the Guadalhorce valley and Sierra de las Nieves, between the typical whitewashed pueblos of Coin and Alhaurin El Grande. Their church squares and narrow streets are bustling with many shops, bars and restaurants, and regular local festivals and weekly markets. Within easy reach is some of the best that Andalucia has to offer, such as Mijas, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Malaga, Antequera, The Lake District and El Chorro Gorge.
Golf, Tennis, Horseriding, Birdwatching, Hillwalking are all available locally. Families are well-catered for in the local area as several bars in Alhaurin have children's play areas and the Fuengirola aquapark is only 25 minutes away.

LOCAL TOWNS Villa las Brisas is in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas, between the typical Andalucian towns of Coin and Alhaurin El Grande. As well as many shops, bars and restaurants, regular local festivals and weekly markets bring their church squares and narrow whitewashed streets to life. Alhaurin has been famous for its bread since Moorish times and there is a Moorish watermill just outside the village.
SIGHTSEEING MIJAS (15mins) - the most famous of the whitewashed pueblos of Andalucia, perched high on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean. Renowned for donkey rides and horsedrawn carriages through its narrow streets. MARBELLA (30mins) - centred around the attractive Old Town with its picturesque Orange Square, Marbella is the Costa del Sol's premiere resort for shopping and nightlife. PUERTO BANUS (35mins) - famous for its designer shops, restaurants, and nightclubs, set around its exclusive marina. MALAGA (30mins) - hometown to Pablo Picasso and Antonio Banderas, Malaga is often overlooked by visitors to the Costa del Sol. It is a thriving Spanish port with a picturesque Old Town, vast cathedral, Moorish castle, impressive Picasso museum and excellent shopping. LAKE DISTRICT AND EL CHORRO GORGE (45mins) - the narrow gorge cut into the rock by the Guadalhorce river is at the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty with wooded ravines and unusual rock formations. Close by is an impressive network of lakes. Ideal day out for walkers, climbers and picnics. RONDA (1hr) - white pueblo perched high above a rocky gorge, with Roman and Moorish remains. The home of bullfighting, with an historic bullring and matador museum. ANTEQUERA (1hr) - market town since Roman times, renowned for its speciality products of olive oil, "polvorones" (almond sweets), and "molletes" (special bread rolls). Nearby are prehistoric dolmens and the flamingo breeding lake of Laguna Fuente de Piedra. A little further afield, but worth the journey for the adventurous are GIBRALTAR (1h15mins), GRANADA (1h45mins), CORDOBA (2hrs) and SEVILLE (2h30mins).
GOLF AND TENNIS Alhaurin Golf (10 mins) - a beautiful 18-hole championship-standard golf course designed by Seve Ballesteros, with wonderful mountain views and luxurious facilities. Tennis is available at the adjoining hotel. Lauro Golf (15 mins) - 27 holes overlooking the Guadalhorce valley. Relaxed atmosphere in the typical cortijo-style clubhouse. Mijas Golf and Santana Golf are 20 minute's drive away and at least 20 more of the Costa del Sol's golf courses can be in reached in 20-45 minutes.
OUTDOOR PURSUITS HORSERIDING - the area can be explored on horseback from several riding schools in the area. BIRDWATCHING - among the birds to be seen regularly from the villa itself are eagles, buzzards, owls, hawks, partridges, golden oriels, bee-eaters, hoopoes, swifts and swallows. The Laguna Fuente de Piedra, the most important flamingo nesting site in Spain, is near Antequera, just an hour's drive away. WALKING - there are extensive walking trails throughout the nearby Sierra del las Nieves, including the spectacular walk to the summit of La Concha which gives panoramic views of the whole Costa del Sol from Gibraltar to the Sierra Nevada and across the Mediterranean to the African Coast.
