Cortijo Carranque is a Christian guest-house which offers a warm welcome to anyone, individuals or groups, who are seeking a place to "get away from it all" be it for a restful holiday, or personal retreat. Visitors can come on B&B or half board or full board basis, or they can self cater in the guest-kitchen. The house is available for self-catering holiday lets during JULY and AUGUST.
The house is a beautifully restored 400 year old Andalucían farmhouse, set in a quiet rural hamlet in the Rio Grande valley, surrounded by citrus orchards and rolling pastures. It offers modern spacious accommodation with many unique features, including a beautiful Moorish style central cloister, private chapel, and barn conversion, all of which have retained the original stone walls.
The surrounding gardens and swimming pool provide ample space to relax and be refreshed in a beautiful and peaceful setting. The nearby river, the surrounding hills and the spectacular scenery in this beautiful valley offer many delights for the keen nature-lover, painter, photographer, walker or horse rider.
The local town of Coín is 7Km from Carranque. It is a medium-sized market town, and offers all the facilities a visitor would need including shops, restaurants and bars. Coín is well positioned for touring Southern Andalucía, and there is plenty to see and do in the area.

The accommodation is in one wing of this L-shaped house, the other wing being occupied by the owners.
Converted from the original farm buildings of the Cortijo, "El Corralón" comprises 6/7 chalet-style en-suite rooms sleeping up to 14, arranged around a secluded courtyard. It has its own kitchen, outside BBQ and Dining Patio. Room 5, which has its own private patio, is normally arranged as a sitting room with a comfortable double sofa-bed. Additional Cots or Folding Beds for children, plus high-chairs and other basic essentials can also be provided on request.
Backing onto "El Corralon", and accessed via the kitchen, is "LA GRANJA" (The Barn)
La Granja is the converted barn which consists of large hall/dining room and kitchen equipped to cater for up to 20 people, and adjoining private house-chapel. The whole space has been converted retaining the original stonework, and complemented with an impressive vaulted wooden ceiling. The barn opens out onto the Moorish-style arched cloister-garden, with large covered seating area, which serves as the main living space, and makes a good play area for children as it is totally enclosed.
For larger parties requiring more than 7 bedrooms, 2 further bedrooms on the owner's side of the house are sometimes available on request.
|Further details outdoors|
In addition to the two courtyard gardens described above, the large unusual swimming pool is set in its own attractive garden with summer house and swing-seat, and looks out over the surrounding citrus orchards and pastures.
The river (Rio Grande) is only 200 metres away, for paddling, picnicking, or just sitting on a rock for a quiet think. Walks are available to suit everyone, from a gentle evening stroll down to the river, to more challenging hikes along the river valley or over the hills. Undoubtedly there is plenty of inspiration for those who enjoy drawing, painting or photography.
Children and well-behaved pets are welcome. The house is a no smoking area, but smokers are welcome to smoke in the numerous outside areas. No Glassware is permitted in the pool area, but plastic glasses are provided for drinks around the pool.
About this location
The Andalucia region
This part of Andalucia, which is on the edge of the Sierra Las Nieves Natural Park is breathtakingly beautiful, especially in Spring, and is excellent country for walking and horse-riding. The area is sprinkled with charming little white "pueblos" (towns), each with its own character, while Málaga, the provincial capital famous for its Picasso museum and Phoenicain fort, and the more sophisticated coastal resorts of Marbella and Puerto Banus are less than an hour away.
Coín is also well positioned for touring Southern Andalucía, with such magical cities as Ronda with its amazing gorge and historic bull-ring, Granada with the famous Alhambra, and Cordoba with the lesser known but equally magnificent Mezquita all within reach.
Coín is our local town, and is about 7K from the hamlet of Carranque. It is a medium-sized market town which has been relatively untouched by tourism, and is therefore still an authentic Spanish working town. It has an attractive central square dominated by the lovely church of San Juan el Bautisto, where one can relax with a beer and watch Spanish life just happening all around.
Town life revolves around its fiestas and cultural events, throughout the year, including Easter and other religious parades, the renowned New Year street parties, the Horse Fair in March, and the Orange Festival in May. For its size the town is surprisingly cosmopolitan, so there are ample shops, bars restaurants and clubs to suit most people's requirements.

Outstanding Hospitality, Warmth & Generosity from delightful Owners, Angela & Martin (& comfortable beds) in this peaceful, beautiful location made Cortijo Carranque feel like a 2nd Home ; during our week long stay we explored the stunning countryside & mountains surrounding the Cortijo which sits in the middle of the Rio Grande Valley about 100 meters away from the river itself, we also easily went down to Marbella.
