The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region

The Charente region has one of the best climates in France. The Charente is blessed in being just far enough away from the Pyrenees and yet far enough south with low lying geography that combines to give it an area with the highest number of average annual sunshine hours in France except the Mediterranean. Charente enjoys 2300 hours of sunshine a year .
The Cognac / Segonzac area
We are surrounded by small Cognac and Pineau producers who will be happy to welcome you for visits and tastings. There are local markets virtually every day and trips available on the peaceful river Charente where one hardly meets a soul. We can advise on ideal walking or gentle touring routes locally amongst the vineyards. Or something further afield, taking in the coast with the Islands: Ré, Oleron and La Rochelle, the vineyards of St Emilion or Medoc, the Dordogne etc. etc...The area is quite sparsely populated and there is just enough tourism to make you not feel out of place. The local inhabitants are welcoming and friendly. In the summer months there are music and folklore festivals and antique and flea markets throughout the region.
