L'Ancienne Distillerie - Otard
from £64 /night help
Gite | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
Set in the heart of the Cognac region and surrounded on all sides by the vines of the Grande Champagne, this former cognac distillery offers you the highest standard of accommodation and service. Otard is one of 4 gites on site. Each gite is independent and has a private terrace whilst sharing the wonderful landscaped gardens, BBQ areas, parkland, pool and gamesroom. Each property has an individual style and retains a wealth of original features such as exposed beams and stonework. The properties sleeping 8, 6, 4 and 2 can be rented individually or together making this the perfect venue for families, special interest groups, friends and couples. All the properties are insulated, double glazed and heated for those off season stays.
The gite Otard has been created from an old cognac storage barn. Built into the walls of the courtyard surrounding the swimming pool the property has a wonderful double aspect. Enter through the ptio doors overlooking the pool and then move through to the living area with the magnificent vistas over the parkland and vines beyond. The patio area to the rear ensures that Otard guests have seclusion and privacy making this the perfect hideaway. ( Please note that because entrance to the property is through the secure pool courtyard the property is not suitable for children under the age of 12 ).
Inside the property the original beauty of the building has been retained with exposed stone walls and sloping ceilings whilst providing comfortable accommodation. Unlike many rental properties for couples, the gite has properly defined rooms and full facilities. There is a large double bedroom. Leading from the bedroom is the spacious bathroom with shower cubicle, washbasin and toilet. To the rear of the property is a single large room incorporating the the lounge, dining table and modern kitchen. The gite is on a single level and has a number of features such as wider internal doors, electric reclining/standing armchairs etc which means that it is more than suitable for people with restricted mobility.
The gentle rolling countryside of this area is perfect for cycling and walking and the beautiful Charente river provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy the water be it for a gentle boat cruise or an afternoon's kayaking. To ensure that make the most of your stay we provide tourist information, guidebooks, maps, recommended day trips and restaurant reviews.

The Poitou-Charentes region
L'Ancienne Distillerie is located in the Charente, a region which is dissected by the beautiful river Charente. With it's gentle rolling countryside covered with vines, the architecture of the Romanesque churches and chateaux and the pretty villages and hamlets, this is the perfect region to explore by car, bike or on foot. Peaceful and relaxing this is the perfect location for families, friends and couples. The town of Cognac is famous for it's namesake product and a visit to the region would not be complete without a tour of one of the many producers. Maybe even try some of the local liqueur - Pineau - made with Cognac and grape juice.
In the summer the sleepy towns and villages come alive with local festivals and events such as the international Jazz and Blues Festival in Cognac, the classical concerts on the beach at Royan and the World Ballooning championships along the river valley. If you fancy a day at the beach then the area can offer you the unspoilt sandy bays and beaches of the Gironde estuary and the Atlantic coast.
Whatever your interests you are assured of a memorable holiday.
L'Ancienne Distillerie is perfectly positioned for visits to all the major towns and tourist attractions in the area such as La Rochelle, Cognac, Saintes, Angouleme, Bordeaux. St Emillion and many more.
If you are looking for something more energetic, then there is horse riding, kayaking, quad biking and water skiing all within a short drive. We also have a number of bikes for our guests to use.
Sample some cognac, Pineau or the wiones of Blaye, Bordeaux, St Emillion....
All too much? Then simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of this beautiful area. Relax by the pool, spend the day at the beach, wander across the vines to the local boulangerie for your croissants or try some of the many excellent local restaurants.
