Home description
The Old Hayloft has a rural location away from the road in the small village of Rowrah. It is ideally placed for accessing places of interest across the tranquil western lakeland area, but is still within easy access of the more well known tourist spots. From the cottage there is direct access to the C2C cycleway; from which guests can cycle to the coast or the local fells or just enjoy a leisurely stroll to try and catch a glimpse of the local red squirrels and deer. The cottage benefits from it's own private garden area, complete with BBQ and garden furniture, where guests with children can enjoy a glass of wine while the children play on the activity area. The cottage is comfortably furnished, with a double and twin bedroom (plus double sofa bed) making it most suitable for families/couples who want to experience a warm Cumbrian welcome away from the crowds.

The Cumbria/Lake District
The Old Hayloft is just outside the Lake District National Park in the Western Lakeland region. The scenery in this area is outstanding making this region superb walking territory. Serious walkers/hikers will enjoy the peaks of Great Gable and ScaFell Pike, whilst those wishing to take in the countryside in a less strenuous way can enjoy walks around the local lakes of Ennerdale and Crummock water and through the forest parks of Whinlatter and Dodd Wood (near Bassethwaite). The solway coast is close by- we have some fantastic beaches in Cumbria and good conditions for surfing too. There are numerous things for families to see and do- in fine or wet weather since the climate does tend to be quite unpredictable !
Cockermouth area
For walkers/ cyclists, we are close to the lakes of Ennerdale Water, Loweswater and Crummock and the associated mountains- all a cycle ride away. Buttermere, Wastwater and Bassenthwaite are also within easy reach by car. For those wishing to sightsee, there are numerous places of interest, too many to mention here. 15 minutes drive North-East is the Market town of Cockermouth-birthplace of the poet William Wordsworth which is well worth a visit. 20 minutes drive south, there is Muncaster Castle and the 'Laal Ratty' (a minauture steam train which takes passengers through the Eskdale Valley)- both an excellent day out for families with children of any age. On the coast, there are the towns of Whitehaven and Maryport, both important ports in Georgian/Victorian times and host to interesting attractions such as The Beacon and an Aquarium.
