Thank you we had a lovely week. Your house was very comfortable and we were very fortunate with the weather. We spent a lot of time on the terrace and enjoyed having breakfast out there in the sunshine.

Every one in the village was very friendly and we enjoyed walking to Cochem - especially taking the ferry over the river and walking on the wooded side of the path. Really have to agree with your restaurant recommendation - we ate there twice.

Hi Lorraine,

After a long journey from Paris, we arrived at your lovely house in Klotten, We are had a great time, especially eating ribs at Dorfschanke !! Superb with à few glasses of BITburger. We visited the castle in Cochem and Berg Eltz, both were lovely and well worth a visit, that was our first time in Germany and we will definitely be visiting again.

Hello Lorraine

We arrived home safely yesterday via Rotterdam and the port of Hull having experienced a wonderful holiday in the Mosel. Your house as expected provided us with a comfortable base from which to explore and discover new places of interest such as Bad Munstereifel and Bad Bertrich. We also managed to visit the Wine festival at Traben Trarbach and purchased a dozen bottles of Klotten wine from your local winery. Visits to your local restaurants were most enjoyable as were our meals at Fisch - Fritz in Valwig.

What a superb staircase leading to the three floors in your property, I bet that cost a few bob. We returned the key to your security box outside, switched off all gas boiler switches and unplugged all Tvs.

Thank you for providing such a comfortable home from home, wishing you every success in lettings for the future.

“Home from home in a quiet location overlooking the Mosel”

Reviewed 17 September 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Great Balcony for sunny days. Comfortable beds and seating areas, excellent bathroom facilities. Lashings of hot water and a comprehensive kitchen suite with dining table.?On the top floor a huge lounge with flat screen TV having mainly German channels but CNN for you American travelers. We managed to view Andy Murray winning The American Open on Eurosport although the picture was very snowy. Good eating places in Klotten including an Italian (Large portions)?Good centre for touring The Rhine and Mosel.

Management response:

Thank you for your nice review, you will be pleased to hear I have now arranged for satellite tv to be installed for next year.

Further details

The house is situated on a hill and may not be suitable for people with walking difficulties.

The Rhineland/Rhine Valley region

There are ten wonderful regions to visit in Rhineland-Palatinate, each one a fascinating and uniquely beautiful part of the state, ranging from the healthy pleasures of the Ahr Valley and the fresh, verdant Westerwald forest to the wine-lovers' paradise of the Moselle region, with plenty of unspoilt scenery on either side of the twisting river. The Eifel with its volcanic history is to the north, and the densely wooded Hunsrück hills lie to the south. Glittering gemstones and warm mineral springs can be found in the Nahe region, whilst Rheinhessen has a Mediterranean feel. Wonderful wine is all around here. The Palatinate is the state's "garden", its wines, vegetables and stunning scenery reminiscent of Tuscany. The amazing Rhine region is characterised by vineyards, quaint mediaeval towns, castles and palaces.

The Polish queen Richeza, Count Palatine Ezzo’s daughter and Emperor Otto II’s granddaughter, quite probably stayed with her three children between 1040 and 1049 in Klotten, where she had herself built a chapel (Nikolauskirche, or Saint Nicholas’s Church) and a dwelling tower, which was linked by a bridge to the chapel. Upon her death on 21 March 1063, she bequeathed all that she owned to the Brauweiler Benedictine Abbey near Cologne. Her sarcophagus stands today in Cologne Cathedral, to the left below the High Altar, the “Epiphany Shrine”.

Cochem

Klotten lies on the river Moselle and is surrounded by steep slate slopes.

Vineyards in Klotten include Burg Coraidelstein, Brauneberg and Rosenberg.

The leisure centre Cochem is located only 2km away and is accessable by crossing the river on the boat in Klotten.

The "Wild and Freizeitpark Klotten is close by, which will keep the younger members of the family entertained. The "Dortebachtal", is located approximately 1 km downstream from Klotten, It is an alpine-looking erosion valley, with a lot of rare animals and plants, a lovely place if you enjoy walking.

Burg Eltz the wonderfully preserved castle is also only 20 km away.

During the summer months you will always find a wine festival at one of the many villages along the mosel river, where you will get to taste the lovely wines of the region and enjoy the friendliness of the locals.

"Comfortable house in a quiet location, yet plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance"

Really enjoyable location with plenty to do nearby with a half hour stroll into Cochem. The house has a lovely sitting area on the third floor and a nice terrace where you can soak the sun when it is out. Wifi would have been handy when we were looking for nearby points of interest.

"Excellent in every way"

This most comfortable house is as clean, well-equipped and well-situated as you would wish. On three levels, it contains two lounges, two good-sized bedrooms, a full bathroom, kitchen/dining room and lovely outdoor terrace with furniture. It is in a lovely wine-producing village with a small supermarket and a number of eating places within easy walking distance. A railway station in the village means easy access to other parts of the region, and there are numerous activities, including plenty of walking routes, on the doorstep.
