Further details indoors

The interior of Dunowen House is done to a 5* standard by an interior designer and is beautiful and elegant but with a funky twist. The music room is filled with Noel Redding memorabilia, books, a sound system, fiddles, guitars and a door that opens onto a cobbled courtyard.

Underfloor heating keeps the house lovely and warm but if you want extra there is a wood burning stove in one reception room and an open fire in the other one. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with huge showers and baths. The beds are king size with 100%cotton linen and goose down duvets and pillows.

The fitted kitchen has a gas Belling cooker big enough to cook for a large group and all mod cons. The dining room has a huge antique oak dining table with concertina doors that open up onto the large front patio. We are located 500 yards from a quiet secluded beach called Sands Cove and within a 5 mile radius there are numerous other beaches.

Further details outdoors

Dunowen House is set in 4 acres of landscaped gardens boasting a private orchard, organic vegetable and fruits within an original walled garden. It also has tqwo enclosed ponds that regularly are home to wild ducks.Surrounded by mature pine and sycamore trees the garden conjures images of a scene from the film "Secret Garden".

Nestled in the heart of the unspoilt West Cork countryside, Dunowen House offers a wonderful selection of outdoor activities, exceptional food, traditional Irish entertainment and the friendliest of welcomes.

For the more active, we can organize sea kayaking, surfing, fishing, horse riding, cycling or hiking adventures, all within five minutes of our doorstep. The secluded Sands Cove at the end of our laneway is the perfect hideaway for a picnic, to be lulled by the rolling waves, while admiring the ever-changing skies and sea-life. Walk to nearby Red Strand, with majestic Galley Head Lighthouse a beacon on the horizon.

Stroll through the buzzing market town of nearby Clonakilty, sampling its gourmet treats and welcoming atmosphere. Nip into one of the many traditional pubs, where local and international musicians can be found in session on a nightly basis.

The County Cork region

Beautiful coastal setting- Close by are many bird watching and whale/dolphin watching hotspots with regular sightings of interesting migrant bird species, basking shark and fin whale amongst other commoner cetaceans.

Whether you are seeking an activity filled break (fishing, sailing, surfing, horse riding, golfing) or just want to get away from it all and chill in a beautiful tranquil setting close to some amazing beach and cliff walks set amongst some of West Cork's most stunning scenery - Dunowen House offers everything.

Set in some 4 acres of landscaped gardens, with mature trees and ponds Dunowen offers the guest total seclusion and privacy. Only 500 yards from Sands Cove beach and within easy reaching distance of Red Strand, Galley Head lighthouse and Long Strand the only problem you will have will be deciding which beach to or cove to visit.

"Surpassed all expectations!!"

Spent 2 weeks at Dunowen House, with large group of friends and family. The house is stunning. We were welcomed, on arrival, by Steve the dog, who was waiting under a tree as we drove up the drive. Trying to choose which bedroom to take was hard as they are all gorgeous. The space downstairs was brilliant. We had a mixture of teenagers and pre-teens in our group so it was great to have a tv room and a quiet lounge. The house was in a very peaceful location, with plenty of space for the games of cricket that took place( Milo even mowed the kids a wicket!). Sands Cove was a short walk down the road and was loved by kids and dogs.
The local community of Ardfield were very welcoming, as the men paid regular visits to the local pub, The Mountain House, which was about a 25 minute walk from the house.
I could go on and on about the wonderful time we had... one thing's for sure, we WILL be returning to Dunowen House!

"Amazing place- lovely owner"

Amazing house, great value and Heather is absolutely lovely. Can't recommend enough. You do need a rental car to get around but they are cheap. If you do book a rental car from easy car on the web beforehand do not buy the excess waiver insurance- it's not valid when you get here!!!
