Further details indoors

The interior of Dunowen House is done to a 5* standard by an interior designer and is beautiful and elegant but with a funky twist. The music room is filled with Noel Redding memorabilia, books, a sound system, fiddles, guitars and a door that opens onto a cobbled courtyard.

Underfloor heating keeps the house lovely and warm but if you want extra there is a wood burning stove in one reception room and an open fire in the other one. All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms with huge showers and baths. The beds are king size with 100%cotton linen and goose down duvets and pillows.

The fitted kitchen has a gas Belling cooker big enough to cook for a large group and all mod cons. The dining room has a huge antique oak dining table with concertina doors that open up onto the large front patio. We are located 500 yards from a quiet secluded beach called Sands Cove and within a 5 mile radius there are numerous other beaches.

Further details outdoors

Dunowen House is set in 4 acres of landscaped gardens boasting a private orchard, organic vegetable and fruits within an original walled garden. It also has tqwo enclosed ponds that regularly are home to wild ducks.Surrounded by mature pine and sycamore trees the garden conjures images of a scene from the film "Secret Garden".

Nestled in the heart of the unspoilt West Cork countryside, Dunowen House offers a wonderful selection of outdoor activities, exceptional food, traditional Irish entertainment and the friendliest of welcomes.

For the more active, we can organize sea kayaking, surfing, fishing, horse riding, cycling or hiking adventures, all within five minutes of our doorstep. The secluded Sands Cove at the end of our laneway is the perfect hideaway for a picnic, to be lulled by the rolling waves, while admiring the ever-changing skies and sea-life. Walk to nearby Red Strand, with majestic Galley Head Lighthouse a beacon on the horizon.

Stroll through the buzzing market town of nearby Clonakilty, sampling its gourmet treats and welcoming atmosphere. Nip into one of the many traditional pubs, where local and international musicians can be found in session on a nightly basis.

The County Cork region

Beautiful coastal setting- Close by are many bird watching and whale/dolphin watching hotspots with regular sightings of interesting migrant bird species, basking shark and fin whale amongst other commoner cetaceans.

Clonakilty

Whether you are seeking an activity filled break (fishing, sailing, surfing, horse riding, golfing) or just want to get away from it all and chill in a beautiful tranquil setting close to some amazing beach and cliff walks set amongst some of West Cork's most stunning scenery - Dunowen House offers everything.

Set in some 4 acres of landscaped gardens, with mature trees and ponds Dunowen offers the guest total seclusion and privacy. Only 500 yards from Sands Cove beach and within easy reaching distance of Red Strand, Galley Head lighthouse and Long Strand the only problem you will have will be deciding which beach to or cove to visit.

Clonakilty is host to numerous music festivals in the summer and a fantastic town for nightlife and live music year around.

"Perfect rural getaway met with five star hospitality"

Truly unforgettable experience. Would recommend it to anyone.
My wife and I were looking for a relaxing weekend away in the rolling hills of west Cork and Dunowen House was our B&B destination. Fantastic!
20 minutes outside Clonakilty at the end of a quite boreen, this is country seclusion at its best. The private entrance immediately makes you feel like you are visiting friends. We were greeted by our hosts Kela and Stephen who made us feel right at home. Our luxurious room, the cathedral room due to its high wooden beamed ceiling, includes a standing bath in addition to an modern en-suite. The peaceful countryside outside and clean comfy warm room ensured and great night's sleep.
In the morning Kela prepares your delicious breakfast (per request), with all produce locally sourced (the black and white pudding!), in addition to the homemade breads, scones and, jams. Stephen advised us on the best spots to see in the area. Check out the nearby (half mile) Sands cove.
Returning to Dunowen for the evening, we were free to relaxed in either of the uniquely decorated living rooms. This former home of the late musician Noel Redding added to the character and allure of the house. Listen to music, watch TV or browse through the many books that occupied the room, this felt like a home away from home.
Looking forward to returning.

"5 Star Luxury with Laid-back Charm"

Just returned from a fantastic escaped to the country in Dunowen House. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and feel revived after the experience. The house is fabulous. Our room was so elegant and inviting. The bath tube was huge!! We both had the best sleep we've had in ages due to the comfy bed and peaceful surroundings.

The welcome we received from the proprietors, Kela and Stephen, was exceptional. The perfect balance of attention and privacy. Kela's tasty full Irish breakfast set us up nicely each morning and her banana bread is hard to beat. Stephen gave us great advice on the neighbouring areas and what was worth visiting. We drove along a section of the Wild Atlantic Way, which is truly stunning.

In the evenings, we were happy to simply hangout in the house. My husband and I are music fans and the house is full of rock and roll memorabilia from the Jimi Hendrix Experience. We lounged around on the comfy sofas listening to 'choons', leafing through the many books and of course sipping some wine. I felt like Noel Redding himself could walk in any minute and start strumming the guitar in a quite corner.

I highly recommend a visit to Dunown House. I will certainly return for a self catering visit with a gang of my friends.

Thanks for such great praise. We are delighted you enjoyed your B&B break with us so much. Hope to see you all again in the near future. Kela & Stephen

"Large family, small wedding"

We had a great week at the house, very clean and tidy on arrival, and a very relaxed welcome by Kela. We arranged a local supermarket to do a home delivery the day we arrived and Kela had put it all away for us by the time we got there, nice helpful touch. We stayed with 3 generations of family, 18 in total so a full house but plenty of room to spread out and even with 6 small kids running around it never felt cramped. We got married during our week away (at a local hotel) and we were so lucky to have beautiful weather the whole time. A great part of Ireland and so quiet and peaceful, highly recommended.

Thank you for the lovely words. You were blessed with the weather and the fact that Ardfield Festival was on during your stay was a wonderful intro into the great community spirit here. Best wishes for your future together, we hope to welcome you back for any future wedding anniversaries!! Kela & Stephen

"Superb holiday rental"

We enjoyed a fantastic week at Dunowen House recently. It was a (large) family occasion and it was great that the house could accommodate the range of people, aged from 8 years to 84 years, staying at various times during the week. We were made more than welcome by Kela and Stephen and their little touches, such as home-made cakes and desserts, added to the pleasure gained at such a wonderful setting.
Everyone who visited had nothing but praise for the accommodation, which is ideally situated in a beautiful part of West Cork.
We would thoroughly recommend Dunowen House to anyone wishing to holiday in that part of Ireland.

We are so pleased you enjoyed your family holiday here at Dunowen House and of course, our lovely home baking!! Benefits of having all those apple trees in the orchard! Best wishes, Kela & Stephen
