The Western Ireland region

A large county divided into two contrasting regions by the expanse of Lough Corrib.

To the west, lying between the lake and the Atlantic, is Connemara - a region of superb scenic grandeur dominated by the rocky mountain range known as the

Twelve Bens. A great many of the inhabitants are Irish speakers, and much of the ancient Gaelic culture is preserved. Galway East, or East of Lough Corrib, is a fertile limestone plain extends to Roscommon.

Galway City, known as the City of the Tribes with its seaside suburb of Salthill, is an important tourist centre and a gateway to the scenic areas of the county.

In the 1400s, there began in Galway the rule of the 'Tribes', as the leading fourteen families were called. Their names were Athy, Blake, Bodkin, Browne, D'arcy, Deane, ffont, French, Joyce, Kirwan, Lynch, Martin, Morris, and Skerritt.

Activities locally include a choice of riding stables, fishing, golf, cycling and the National Park. Also nearby are the villages of Roundstone and Cleggan. Further away you can enjoy the busy town of Westport and the City of Galway There are shops, pub and restaurants five miles away. The world famous Connemara Pony Show takes place in Clifden the 3rd Thursday of August each year.

"Bracken is not a holiday rental it is a home"

This cottage is perfect: it is a beautiful house located on the seaside in a peaceful small area. Ideal to come with children.
It is very nicely furnished and the owner has planned everything to welcome you warmly: a bouquet of roses is laid on the table, coffee and biscuits are waiting for you at your arrival and there is nothing missing for you to feel as at home during your stay there.
Moreover, the owner comes during the week to see if everything is all right and he is a very friendly person to chat with.
