Privately situated in its own, gated grounds with a delightfully landscaped, fragrant garden, Rives-Pres provides a luxurious hideaway for a relaxing holiday. With generous living areas, the house is comfortably furnished and has been carefully renovated, with terracotta floors, lovely old exposed stone walls and beams.
In the main house are four bedrooms, three bathrooms (two en suite). The garden Pavilion consists of a big twin-bedded room with en suite shower room. The pool area is a sanctuary separate from the house, planted with palm trees to create an atmosphere of a tropical oasis, surrounded by a big stone wall for privacy and securely fenced for safety.
The house is a good starting point for walks into the countryside and the village 2 kms away has all shops and services, including a weekly market. There is a lively market town nearby for supermarkets, restaurants, shops and one of the best street markets in the area. Lots of historical sites nearby and easy day trips can be made to Carcassonne and the Cathar castles, Nimes, Arles, Avignon.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region
This region, Languedoc, is France's best kept secret, where you'll find the rural France you've always dreamed of. Sleepy villages of sun-warmed stones and red tiled roofs unspoilt by mass tourism, magnificent scenery ideal for rambles on foot or horseback amongst herb scented hills, with deep gorges tumbling into cool, inviting rivers.
If you can tear yourself away from such over-abundance of nature's generosity, there are many local places of interest nearby. Or an hour's drive takes you to splendid Roman towns such as Avignon, Nîmes, Arles to the east, stunning Carcassonne and the Cathar castles to the west. For a touch of true French sophistication, Montpellier, 40 kms, offers the arts, theatre, shopping, an international airport and train station. The Spanish border is only 1.5 hours' drive.
Clermont l'Herault area
The property is located just 2 kms from St André de Sangonis, which has all shops and services, including two mini markets, several boulangeries, butcher, bars, restaurants, a ‘Maison de Presse’ which has English newspapers, and a Friday morning street market..
There are restaurants, supermarkets, shops and excellent weekly street markets in the lively market towns of Clermont l’Hérault, 8 kms and Pézenas, 10 kms, which is also known for its many antique dealers. Swimming at Mediterranean beaches, 35 minutes and Lac Salagou, 10 minutes, which is also fun for fishing and non-motorised water sports.
Brilliant local markets, concerts and festivals year round include truffle and wine fairs. Private wine domaines hold classical concerts in lovely surroundings during the summer - under the stars in a fabulous chateau courtyard or in an atmospheric wine store - followed by wine tastings
How to get there
Montpellier, 45 minutes' drive, is the closest airport (Ryanair and Easyjet).
Nimes, Carcassonne, Perpignan and Rodez airports less than an hour's drive (Ryanair)
Toulouse and Marseille two hours, an easy trip on the autoroute (British Airways).
Beziers airport 40 mins (Ryanair). TGV to Montpellier from Paris takes 3.5 hours.

The charmingly decorated, vast master bedroom suite of 27 sq m has air-conditioning and a large, fully tiled en suite bathroom with separate WC, big walk-in shower, hand washbasin and a bath. French doors from bathroom and suite lead to the suite’s own terrace with amazing views over the countryside. Another door from the suite leads to a 30 sq m covered veranda with sweeping views.

Further details outdoors: Situated in a gated half hectare with the surrounding three hectares belonging to the property, Rives-Pres provides a secluded setting for your holiday. The garden has many established trees and has been landscaped with native plants; delightfully scented lavender, fragrant thyme and rosemary mingle with a riot of colourful flowering plants.
The huge, private pool area, beautifully landscaped, is paved with big, stylish flagstones, providing plenty of sun bathing space and has a pool house with shower and WC, plus a covered terrace which provides some shade on hot days. The pool is 12 x 6 m, 1 metre-1 metre 50 in depth and is entered by four broad steps.
A built-in wood or coal burning barbecue with outside sink and preparation area in the garden has a little covered terrace providing the perfect spot for alfresco dining on a hot day.
There’s plenty of parking on the premises.

A truly beautiful spot - the house is charming with wonderful outside space, we have done nothing but sleep by the pool, eat long lazy lunches in the shade and generally indulge, just what the doctor ordered! Sophie and Steve, Suzanne, Peter, Michael and James (booked again)
