About the home

The condo is suitable for families, couples and groups of friends. From the private balcony there is a wonderful, wide view of the coast, from Treasure Island up to the end of Sand Key. Dolphins are often spotted in the sea in front. It receives direct sunshine from about 2pm.The sunsets are often spectacular.

The condo is on the third floor, is air conditioned and there are ceiling fans in most rooms and it has an exceptionally light and airy feel. The master bedroom and living room have sliding glass doors which span the width of the rooms and which open out onto a large balcony. The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom and dressing room. All rooms are large and well furnished. There are ceramic tiled floors throughout, with rugs in the bedrooms and living room. There is a recently refurbished, 'eat in' kitchen which is well equipped and has a view overlooking a marina on Boca Ciega bay and the intercoastal waterway. and there is a separate laundry closet. There is a large closet for coats (and toys) in the hallway and abundant storage space throughout the condo. There are pictures and paintings on the walls in most rooms.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed and opens onto the balcony and has the same gloroious view enjoyed by the living room. The balcony is furnished with a sun lounger and a patio table with 4 comfortable arm chairs (more loungers and chairs available in the closet). The master bedroom has an en suite bathroom with bath, shower and WC and a walk in closet, and a large flat screen high definition TV and incorporated DVD player, also an extension cordless telephone with voicemail. The second bedroom has two queen sized beds and a cot in an alcove, and also a TV. The large second bathroom has a walk in shower and WC.

The kitchen has a large, American style fridge and the sink has a waste disposer. The range has 4 plates anda large self cleaning oven and a smaller oven which doubles as a microwave. The kitchen table can seat 6. There is a phone in the kitchen. A breakfast bar separates ithe kitchen from the dining area. The living room, with a window wall overlooking the sea, has a double sofa bed and several comfortable chairs, also a large TV and CD/ video recorder. There is a computer desk and WiFi for internet access is available free of charge. There is also a portable plug in radio/CD player. There is a dining area at the kitchen end which has an elegant, extendable dining table which can seat 8.

The heated, outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi are in a gated area with sunloungers and showers which opens directly onto the beach. There is a dedicated parking space on the ground floor, and a secure covered area where bicycles or strollers can be kept. The parking area has key entry gates which lead to the beach, the heated swimming pool and jacuzzi area and the BBQ and shuffleboard area. The large, fixed BBQ may be used by guests, also the shuffleboard area. There is a lobby on the ground floor, close to the double lift, entry to which is by code, key or answerphone.

There is a management team at the condo daily, based at the management office , and a watchman on duty at night. Ocean Sands has maintained palm trees and flower beds and fountains, making for attractive surroundings.

Further details

The kitchen, second bedroom and both bathrooms have recently been refurbished with granite counter tops and the master bedroom has been remodelled this year. The whole condo is in an excellent state of repair.

The Florida / Florida Gulf Coast region

As it is situated on Sand Key, the region is dominated by the ocean and the abundance of wild life, especially birds. There are many miles of fine sandy beaches - shell collecting is a favourite activity. Swimming in the warm, clear water and snorkling are much enjoyed. The condo is right by Madeira Beach, with direct access to the beach from the condo. It is a 25 minute walk from John's Pass, a waterway connected by a bridge to Treasure Island. Here is an old fishing village which has become a popular spot, with a boardwalk for viewing wildlife and boats going through the pass to the open sea, and there are many attractive small shops, open air restaurants and bars.
The condo is a 30 minute drive from Tampa, where the old cigar making district is of historic interest , and a 20 minute drive from St Petersburg, where the world famous Salvador Dali museum is situated and the interesting area known as 'The Pier'. Tyrone Mall, which has many department stores such as Macy's, Dillards and Old Navy, is accessible by bus from the condo -a 15 minute ride, or 10 minutes by car. The Suncoast Trolly buses travel the length of Gulf Boulevard at regular intervals, to the end of Sand Key to Clearwater. Busch Gardens, a popular funfair and theme and wild life park, is about a 35 minutes away by car,as is Ellenten Outlet Mall, and the drive to Disneyworld/ Seaworld/Universal Studios in Orlando takes about 1hour 30 minutes. De Soto park, a National Park renowned for its beautiful beach (voted America's #1 beach in 2009) and historic fort are 20 minutes drive away. Caladesi Island, and Honeymoon Island, a wild and uninhabited National Park where armadillos,sea turtles and nesting ospreys may be spotted, can be reached after a 20 minute drive and/or a short boat ride. There are many other well kept parks with trails and an abundance of wild life and gardens.

The Clearwater / Madeira Beach area

Madeira Beach is a fairly spread out locality with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the intracoastal waterway on the other. There are numerous small restaurants and bars within walking distance of the condo, similarly supermarkets, and other little shops for buying souvenirs, an internet cafe, and a shop where fishing equipment can be hired. There is a library to which visitore can belong temporarily for a small fee where DVDs as well as books can be borrowed. Close to the library is a recreation centre where there are tennis courts, basketball/netball courts and fields for socker and other such games, all of which are free for all to use.
Beach umbrellas and beach loungers may be hired on the beach itself, and there is also a nearby spot where wind surfers and pedalos may be hired at certain times during the day.
At John's Pass one can hire boats of all kinds, or take boat trips to view dolphins -and maybe a manatee -sunset cruises and dining cruises are very popular. There are several public fishing piers. The whole area is a haven for wild life lovers, especially bird watchers. The Sea Bird Sanctuary is situated a coupleof miles down the beach and is popular with visitors.
For the more energetic there are kayaks, motor and sailing dingies for hire. There is a recreation area 10 minutes walk away which has large grassed areas suitable for ball games, and also 3 hard tennis courts, all free for visitors to use. Also in Treasure Island is a well equipped tennis and golf centre where there are many excellent clay tennis and an 8 hole golf course ( sports equipment can be hired on site) and a children's play area. 'Tides' is a beautiful golf club situated at about 10 minutes drive from the condo by the intracoastal waterway which welcomes visitors (inexpensive by European standards).
At several shops in the are cycles may be hired and some visitors take the opportunity to follow the scenic Pinella's Trail, a car free road that can be entered and exited at several points and which travells the 40 mile length length of Pinellas County.

Daily Suncoast Trolly passes can be puchased $1.50 per ride - a trolly stop is close to the condo and to explore further afield a $12 pass is available for unlimited travel for a week. Cycles are carried free of charge on the beach trolly which goes by the condo every half hour from Clearwater Beach to St Pete's Beach and beyond, and stops just outside Ocean Sands.

“Once again a fabulous holiday” This is the 4th year that we have rented this property, and once again it has lived upto our expectations, it is cool, clean and those view are to die for 3 weeks of bliss. Can't wait to return.

“A Great Condo On The Beach With All Amenities.” The Condo was presented in excellent condition.My wife and I were particularly impressed with the amenities provided which made staying for three weeks a pleasure.The location on the gulf coast meant it was very easy to spend time on the beach or visit places of interest , theme parks or the inevitable shopping malls.

“Lovely apartment, fabulous views” We stayed at Erica's apartment for a week in April 2012 and could not have been more delighted. The apartment is spacious and beautifully appointed. The views to the ocean are amazing as are the sunsets. The apartment is literally on the beach. The beach itself is wonderful, plenty of other families there but not too busy. There is parking at the base of the building which is very handy. There is also a swimming pool and barbecue area. There is plenty to do around the area, St Johns Pass is only a short drive or can be walked. Erica is extremely helpful and is quick in dealing with any questions we had we arrived and when we were there. Overall, thoroughly recommended and we hope to visit again.

“We didn't stay long enough!'” This lovely apartment was our home in Florida for just a few days after a busy week in the Orlando parks and I wish we could have stayed much longer. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable and we greatly appreciated the two bathrooms having teenage girls and the computer/internet facility. Being able to sit and dolphin watch from the balcony was a highlight and we did spot dolphins swimming by most days.The pool and hot tub were very clean and warm and we enjoyed using them in the evening as the sun went down. Spectacular sunsets !Everything we needed in an apartment was provided and more. The area is well served with a supermarket a short walk ( great salad bar if you dont feel like eating out) and various shops and restaurants. St Johns Pass is only a few miles away. This is lovely area to walk around and we took a dolphin and wildlife cruise from here that the whole family really enjoyed ( Hubbards marina cruises).We also ventured into St Petersburg and did a Segway tour around the pier which great fun and we went North to Tarpon Springs and Clearwater for browsing , shopping and the Aquarium. We are already saving to visit again and we will definitely be using this Ocean Sands apartment again if available. Many thanks to the efficient and friendly owner. Highly recommended.

“A beautiful apartment with spectacular views” The location of this apartment at Ocean Sands is wonderful just wander down to the pool and through the gate and there it is, a fabulous stretch of beach just made for relaxation or for the more energetic a morning run. To sit on the balcony at breakfast and watch the dolphins play in the gulf is magical, as is the beautiful sunsets the region is famous for relax at the end of the day with a glass of wine and watch nature at its best. This is the 3rd year we have stayed at the apartment, it is cool, clean and has everything that you could want for adults and children alike. In the last 2 years the owner has updated the kitchen, guest bath, main bathroom and redecorated throughout. It is a place to unwind and like us you will want to return, next year is our 40th wedding anniversary no prizes for guessing where we are staying it's already booked.

“A perfect stay” The apartment is exactly as described, large, light, airy, beautifully decorated and appointed. It is in a wonderful location not only for the beautiful white beach but also - unusually for the USA - within a short walk of a large supermarket. I read an review saying the decorations were looking a little tired and the owner's reply that some redecoration was being done. The state of decoration is now excellent, with very attractive granite tops on the serving bar, the master bedrrom and en suite bathroom.

“superb condo on the beach with great swimming pool” We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ocean Sands and look forward to visiting again next year. The location is superb (right on the beach) and the shared pool is great. My three children enjoyed using the beach toys provided in the condo and it was very useful to have access to a cot. The refurbishment in the condo has been done to a high standard and all mod cons are provided (great cable TV, dishwasher, washing machine, drier...).

“Very Relaxing Beachfront location with fabulous views” We had everything we needed at Ocean Sands for a relaxing holiday by the sea. The Condo was very well equipped to self cater and it was ideal to come and go as we please with direct beach access. The free Wi-Fi/Internet and use of beach chairs/parasol were nice extras. We saw Dolphins most days from the beach or the balcony and the sunsets were fabulous most evenings. The large supermarket was very close to get any supplies that you need. The Trolley Bus stop is directly outside and will take you to Clearwater in one direction and Pass A Grill in the other, they run every half hour, so a car really isn't necessary unless you want to go further afield. We did have a car for a few days and the Condo has its own parking space allocated for which you just get a parking permit from the office. We walked along the beach to Johns Pass Marina, this was about a 30 minute stroll stopping on the way to look at the Dolphins play and the various types of birds. Once there we rented a speed boat from Jacks Boat Rentals - this was great! you can take the boat out for a minimum of 2 hours, but you can have it for the whole day if you want, we had Dolphins swimming around our boat! There is many places to eat and drink there also. There really isn't anything negative to say about staying at the Ocean Sands Condo and the only reason that we haven't rated it 5 out of 5 is that the decor is a little bit tired in places and there is only one lay back lounger on the balcony (for a place that sleeps up to 6 people we didn't feel that was enough) but we think the rent was a very fair price. Some other rentals charge a cleaning fee, this was not the case here and you changed bedding, towels etc as and when you wanted to and left them clean at the end of your stay.

An initial deposit is taken of £200 or $300 upon booking, which is also a deposit against loss and damage at the condo. This deposit is non-returnable if the holiday is cancelled but usually it will be returned to guests at the end of the tenancy, after checking and final cleaning by the maids, and return of the keys. For bookings of more than 2 weeks the deposit is higher.

There are special rates for rental periods of more than two weeks and very special rates for periods of more than 3 weeks. The tariff includes use of towels and bed linen, electricity and telephone charges to anywhere in the USA or Canada, high definition multi-channel TV and final cleaning of the property.
