Bastidon des Oliviers villa apartment occupies the lower level of a split level property divided into two apartments and situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, less than ten minutes walk from the hilltop village of Claviers, near Bargemon (voted “one of the most beautiful villages in France”). The property is set amongst terraced olive groves in over an acre of land on a hillside with a spectacular overflow effect pool, enjoying glorious views over the surrounding countryside. A fabulous secluded location, yet within easy access of the Cote d’Azur resorts, which can be quickly reached via the A8 motorway (20 minutes away). It is a 45 minute drive to Cannes or to the Gorges du Verdon, 1 hour to Nice airport or St. Tropez, 35 minutes to St. Raphael.
Bastidon des Oliviers may be rented as two independent units (villa and apartment) or by one party wishing to occupy the whole property, with the exception of the peak period of July and August when we only accept bookings for the entire accommodation. One party of up to ten people can comfortably be accommodated, but if the villa and the apartment are let separately, we normally limit occupancy to a maximum of eight.

The villa apartment is all on one level and comprises two bedrooms, one double and one twin (through a curtained off archway from the living room) and a very spacious living room with a dining area and French windows opening onto the private covered terrace with glorious views over the countryside. There is a separate kitchen fitted with oak units and a spacious shower room with shower cubicle, freestanding washbasin and WC. Just off the kitchen ia a large utility room with a washing machine and ironing board.

The villa apartment is fully self contained with it's own entrance and private outdoor terrace. The property is set in its own terraced olive grove in a peaceful location and the apartment enjoys splendid views over the surrounding hills and the garden in front. The villa and grounds are South facing and enjoy maximum day long sunshine throughout the year. The private covered patio has a dining area with a gas barbecue and the poolside is fully equipped with garden furniture and parasols. The large infinity pool (11m x 4m), pool terrace and extensive private gardens are available for the enjoyment of all guests. There is a direct access from the apartment to the villa (separate from the villa guests). The pool has an attractive balustrade at each side and a child safety alarm. A quiet road leads directly from the grounds to Claviers village.
The apartment is available as a separate let outside of the peak season of July and August. In peak only the whole property is rented together (villa plus apartment).
The pricing is fully inclusive of gas, electricity, linen and cleaning prior to and after your stay plus a brief weekly clean for stays of two weeks or more. Euro and US Dollar pricing is available on our website. All arrivals and departures are on Saturday, although this may be flexible out of season. Babies up to 12 months do not count in the occupancy figures.
To make a reservation we require a 20% (non-refundable) deposit on the total accommodation cost, Payment can be made by Sterling cheque, bank draft or by Sterling or Euro transfer. The balance is due 12 weeks before arrival. We also require a refundable damage deposit of £200 for the apartment payable either with the balance or at least one week before arrival at the property.
The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
The Cote d'Azur has been known since the early nineteenth century as Europe’s leading playground. As a holiday destination it is unsurpassed in the world, offering a beautiful stretch of coastline backed by the jagged peaks of the Alps, superbly maintained top class resorts, magnificent promenades and gardens, as well as a plethora of historic towns and ancient hilltop villages amid fabulous countryside and with an exceptional climate, cuisine and wine.
The coastline is an ever-changing series of glimmering bays interspersed with rugged rocky peninsulas and dramatic cliffs falling straight into the sea. The coastal towns are renowned the world over. Cannes' star-studded Croisette, Nice’s Promenade des Anglais, Antibes' ancient ramparts, quaint St. Raphael, lively Fréjus, chic Port Grimaud and Ste. Maxime and, of course, glitzy St. Tropez. Less well known but equally impressive is the coast road from La Napoule to St. Raphael, full of dramatic scenery backed by the red, craggy mountains of the Esterel National Park. It is here you will find our nearest coastal beaches (35-40 minutes drive) with a choice of sheltered coves or glorious long sandy bays.
And there is very much more to get excited about than the famous coastal towns. In the countryside behind the coast you will discover breathtakingly scenic routes winding over hills and mountains and through gorges, past ancient hillside villages with their labyrinths of narrow streets and impressive views of the surrounding area. Fayence, Seillans, Bargemon, Callas, Claviers, Chateaudouble, Tourtour, Mons and St. Cézaire are amongst many to be explored. You can also take a trip into the Alps or visit one of the spectacular gorges - Gorges de La Siagne, Châteaudouble or the renowned Gorges du Verdon, the deepest canyon in Europe with its 500 meter sheer cliffs.
The Claviers area
Claviers is located in a beautiful area of The Var (the “département”), boasting some of the finest scenery Provence has to offer. The Var countryside is predominantly wooded hillsides dotted with picturesque, perched villages and interspersed with luxuriant valleys and deep gorges sparkling with fast flowing rivers and crystalline rock pools. The Claviers area has all of this, plus mile after mile of pine and olive groves, vineyards, châteaux and villages untouched by the passing of time. Quite incredible when you appreciate how close it is to the sophisticated coast.
There are numerous interesting nearby villages. Seillans and Bargemon have both been voted amongst the most attractive villages in France but in our view all the local villages are very attractive and worth a visit in their own right. Amongst the nearest are Callas, unspoilt and typical of the area; Chateaudouble, sitting on the rim of a spectacular gorge; Fayence, the largest and busiest with a lovely viewpoint and famous gliding club; Callian, ancient and very pretty; St. Cezaire, perched on a cliff edge, and Mons, nestled in the hills, with superb views over the Gorges de la Siagne and the coast. And, if you prefer swimming in a lake or want to indulge in watersports or fishing, Lake St. Cassien is just a short drive away or you can visit the impressive Lac de Ste. Croix at the entrance to the Gorges du Verdon.
Most outdoor activites are available locally including hiking, climbing, canyoning, rafting, horseriding, golf, tennis, gliding, non-motorised watersports on the lake and most watersports at the coast. There are also numerous cultural activities and galleries both in the local villages and at the coast as well as endless music festivals and firework events in the summer months. Each local village has it's own fete, added to which the local communes pride themselves on a full calendar of events.
How to get there

The property is ideally located for easy access from several airports. It is one hour to Nice airport, one hour to Toulon/Hyeres airport and one and a half hours to Marseille. In addition, you can take the train to one of the local rail stations such as Les Arcs or Draguignan. The high speed TGV train service departing from London Waterloo takes seven hours to reach Marseille.
From Calais and the channel ports, it is about a 10 hour car journey to the villa, best route being the motorway.
The main low cost and scheduled airlines operate services to the local airports including British Airways, Bmi easyJet (mainly NIce), Flybe and Ryanair (mainly Marseille). Car hire can be arranged through all the main operators at the airports. Europcar has a tie-in with Easyjet.
