There are glorious views from Villa Charmante over the perched medieval village of Claviers, in Provence, to the hills beyond. It is totally private and secluded - no other property overlooks the Provence villa, terrace or pool as we have olive groves to one side and to the rear, a small wood to the other side, and to the front (south and south west) we look down on Claviers with its 900 year old church.
Villa Charmante is a modern villa built using many traditional materials such as ancient oak beams, terracotta tiles, handmade local bathroom tiles from Salernes and antique doors, to mention just a few of the delights of the property. The inside is stunning with large windows and high ceilings allowing plenty of light to bathe the spacious 175 sqm interior. It is a villa of great charm and character with all modern conveniences.

Striking entrance with elegant staircase to a magnificent and spacious (9m x 6m) lounge. With a high ceiling and superb acoustics, there are massive oak beams and a full terracotta tiled floor. Second lounge area with large fireplace, television and DVD player. This lounge area curtains off to form an occasional third bedroom with sofa bed.
Master bedroom with king-size bed and ensuite bathroom. French doors to a terrace that is bathed by the morning sun. Separate cloakroom WC on ground floor (lounge) level. Triple bedroom on the upper level with adjacent shower room and WC.
Large dining room on same level as the kitchen. French doors to poolside terrace and patio door to second terrace overlooking the village of Claviers.
Kitchen with electric hob, oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer. Utility room with washing machine and iron.
Television and DVD player with a selection of DVDs. HiFi with selection of CDs. Lots of books and games for all ages.
Swimming pool open April to October with roll on thermal cover (to reduce night time heat loss in the cooler months) and regulation safety alarm. Sunny terraces with areas shaded by olive and cypress trees. Plenty of loungers and cushions, parasols and built in barbecue. Two exterior dining tables with chairs, one beside the barbecue, the other on the second terrace overlooking Claviers. Private driveway with parking for three cars.

Enjoy barbeques by the pool bathed in the evening sunset as the shadows climb the hills in the distance.
Spoil yourself with a romantic candlelit dinner at the magnificent dining table with views of the historic village and floodlit centuries old clock tower.
Open all year. In the Summer season we have a Saturday changeover and let by the week. In the low season changeover days can be flexible as can length of stay.
We are continually improving and upgrading the villa. Last year we added all new sofas, this year we repainted the exterior, renovated the floors and added new curtains amongst many other extras.
Villa Charmante as its name implies is indeed charming and ideal for that special occasion be it a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday or other celebration. Just let us know the occasion and we can arrange to have something special in the villa for your arrival.

Prices for the Villa are per week and include electricity in peak season (May to September), linen, towels (not pool towels though), final clean, pool maintenance and welcome hamper with fine wine and local produce.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Var region
With a Mediterranean climate of long hot summers and 300 sunny days a year, you can spend long lazy days beside the pool relaxing and unwinding in the warm sunshine.
Sandy beaches at Frejus and St Maxime 40 minutes drive. There are many other sandy bays and coves within 1 hour and the beautiful 7 km long Pampelonne beach at St Tropez is about a 1 hour drive.
Discover many pretty medieval perched villages such as Tour Tour and Chateaudouble in the hills nearby or Eze high above Nice.
Many of the famous resorts of the Cote d'Azur such as Cannes, Nice, Monaco and Monte Carlo are all easily accessible from the villa. Our favourite is St Tropez, this is an absolute "must" visit, a beautiful old town with chic designer shops, magnificent yachts in the harbour and great for "people watching" .
There are several golf courses within 1 hour which as you would expect of the South of France are truly spectacular.
Two hours away are the magnificent Roman ruins at Avignon, Orange, Nimes and the stunning Pont du Gard aqueduct.
Skiing - there is a small skiing resort 45 minutes from Villa Charmante open in mid winter or the main resorts of the Alps are a 2 hour drive.
The Cote d'Azur and South of France have long had a special appeal. Combine the Mediterranean climate, wonderful light, Provencal cooking, superb wine and the rich warm scenes that inspired Van Gogh and Cezanne and you have all the makings for a fantastic holiday!
The Claviers area
Take a pleasant few minutes' stroll in the early morning sunshine to the village bakery for your freshly baked bread and croissants for breakfast.
Historic Claviers has a bakery, grocers, post office, restaurants, bar, boules court and market day. Sister villages of Callas and Bargemon (recently voted one of the prettiest villages in France) have more shops, restaurants, cafes, bank, market days etc
The larger towns of Le Muy and Draguignan both 20 minutes away have supermarkets, traditional market days and all other facilities.
The area is popular for rambling with many paths through pine forests and olive groves. Our favourite is the 1 ½ mile walk from the villa to the Chapel of St Anne high on the hill above for magnificent views of Claviers, Callas, Bargemon and the surrounding countryside.
There are excellent local vineyards for wine tasting and essential supplies! Our recommendation Chateau d'Esclans produces some of the best rose you can buy and is one of quite a number of vineyards just 20 minutes away en-route to Le Muy, where you can spend a pleasant afternoon wine tasting. Another of these vineyards, Domaine de la Maurette boasts a superb restaurant serving delicious freshly prepared provençal food where you can choose to dine inside or out.
France's Grand Canyon, the Gorges du Verdon is ½ hour's drive. It is nearly half a mile deep and the many view points make for a fabulous afternoon out.
Lac St Cassien for all watersports is only 25 minutes' drive away. The larger Lac St Croix (also good for watersports) is 45 minutes away at the mouth of the Gorges du Verdon.

Provence is now more accessible than ever, fly with Easyjet from several UK airports to Nice, or with Ryanair to Toulon - both 1 hour's drive to the villa. Marseilles is about 1 ½ hours, or by car from Calais or Caen allow a 9-10 hour drive.

We had a wonderful holiday in this lovely villa in beautiful Claviers. Standing looking down over this very typical Provence village, Villa Charmante made for a perfect base to explore rural Provence and beyond. The villa was well equipped and comfortable and some days we just stayed in all day relaxing by, and in, the pool. It enjoyed almost all day sunshine. It was located in a very peaceful place but only a 7 minute walk and you were in the centre of Claviers with its perfect mix of bars, restaurants and local stores (including a great boulangerie). One of the best holidays we have had and Villa Charmante couldn't have been a better base to enjoy it from. |

Our stay in this Villa was idyllic - there really are fantastic views of the village of Claviers from the Villa to look at other breakfast or dinner. The Villa is in a secluded so offers peace in abundance - however if you want to see the lights, St Tropez, Canne and Nice are all within easy reach. |

The 'Villa Charmante', an idyllic, terraced, hillside retreat, is set in beautiful olive groves, luxuriant with lavender and humming with cicadas, overlooking the picturesque medieval village of Claviers, perched on its pine-clad ridge of rock across the valley. The villa more than lived up to its name. The spacious rooms and lounges, descended the hillside on three levels, and opened onto a variety of lavender scented terraces where the swimming pool (frequently and discreetly serviced), outdoor barbecue and dining areas were beautifully located. The sunsets over the mountains were magically memorable. The house itself was elegantly furnished with everything you could need, and the charming, friendly and efficient concierge and her handyman husband were always available from the village only minutes away; indeed, they had left welcoming food and drink for our arrival - a characteristically generous gesture from Greg Poole of 'Select Cottages'. We dined splendidly, at reasonable prices, in several local villages and, of course, made the most of this area, poised within easy reach of the beauties of the Cote d'Azur to the south and the spectacular mountains and Gorges of Verdun to the north. Both the villa and our holiday there were uniquely enchanting. We certainly hope to return one day. |

Welcome hamper with local wine and produce included in the price between 2 April and 29 October. Please remember to take your own pool and beach towels. Please bring your own linen for the travel cot. Electricity, heating and firewood are fully inclusive from 30 April to 1 October. Outside these dates there are charges according to usage of logs and electricity by meter reading. The swimming pool is open from 2 April to 29 October.
