South-West Scotland is a wonderful holiday destination. It offers:
an amazing variety of scenery from Solway coast seashores to vast forests like Mabie and Ae and thundering waterfalls like The Grey Mares Tail;
a mild climate, due the Gulf Stream in the Solway;
an incredible history from early Christianity at the Ruthwell Cross to early banking at Ruthwell Savings Bank Museum;
more that its fair share of Castles: there are three castles all within 10 miles of Acorn Cottage; Comlongon Castle, Caerlaverock Castle and Hoddom Castle.
uplifting culture from The Scottish Bard Robbie Burns to modern art at Dalton Pottery Art Café; and
outstanding outdoor activity options including 31 golf courses like Powfoot Golf Course and Hoddom Golf Course plus mountain biking at 7Stanes and Mabie Forest and star gazing at Galloway Dark Skies!
Yet it seems to be only the discerning tourist - like you, that takes time to discover South West Scotland's amazing secrets! Tranquil and never crowded - unspoilt by mass tourism!
