The Burgundy / Nievre region
Bordering on the Yonne and Nievre areas, this part of Burgundy is perfect for site seeing. Peaceful, rich in history and with a changing landscape around every corner, Yonne in a department of contrasts. Chablis is full of wine shops as well as caveaux where you can stop for a tasting and maybe pick up a bottle or two. Famous wine village around include Irancy and St. Bris. Auxerre itself is a harbour for pleasure craft. You can hire a boat from here to navigate the river or the neighbouring Nivernais canal. The Nivernais canal is one of the prettiest stretches of water in France. Time moves slowly here and it's all the better for it.
Clamecy area
There are good supermarkets in Clamecy as well as the weekly market for local produce held near the church on a Saturday morning. Many other local village markets are worth a visit.
Throughout the summer many festivals are held in this area from music to mushrooms, vide-greniers to flowers.
