On the Atlantic coast, between the châteaux and the castles of the Loire Valley and the Bordeaux vineyards, lies Poitou-Charentes, one of the sunniest parts of the French western coast. This region is peaceful and beautiful with lots to see and do for all the family or couples
Inland, the scene is one of serenity, with vast horizons and wooded valleys, the soothing tranquility of canals, the valley of Vienne, the foothills of Charente and the Cognac vineyards.
The Civray area
Futuroscope, cinematic theme park, Poitiers;Monkey Valley (20 km - lovely day out for children). a must for families Poitiers, Limoges, Angouleme - cities with much of interest. Cognac for Hennessey, Remy-Martin, Martell distilleries. River Vienne for river activities. Charroux - medieval town. Civray (14 km) - beautiful Romanesque church. thriving market with lots of stalls.. Motor Racing circuit at Val de Vienne (20km). Way-marked, secluded local walks. Good restaurants easily reached.

I arrived late in the evening two days before Christmas, not a problem, I still got a five star welcome, the fire was burning brightly, the gite was warm and welcoming, I was given an explanatory tour of the Little House despite the late hour and shown how to operate all the amenities, the satellite box, the dvd player the wi-fi, the cooker dishwasher etc. I received a welcome pack of food to tied me over until the following day and wait for it, as I was on my own, Sharon and Aaron had put up Christmas decorations a table display and had prepared and hung up for me a well packed Christmas stocking, how good was that ! Now the facts; La Petite was very clean and comfortable, well equipped with all the utensils and electrical appliances one could want or need on a self catering holiday The location is is rural, quiet, peaceful and relaxing down a country lane but is only 2-3 kilometers from either the D1 or D7 so access is no problem. In the time I spent there I comfortably day tripped to Poitiers, La Rochelle and Limoge, with so many other places of interest within reach I was spoiled for choice. What to say about the owners that hasn't been said by countless others (read the visitors book) they are lovely, they are helpful, knowledgeable about the area, more so than many because although very English they are committed to and involved with their French neighbors and France. Sharon and Aaron were, at all times a comfortable presence, always ready to assist always available to answer queries but never, never in your face. They don't play at being gite owners and hosts, they work at it and they're very good at what they do. Bottom line, as this was my first visit would I go again?................................................. You bet, I've already booked and paid my deposit, thought I'd reserve my weeks before the word gets around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

We have stayed here five time in total. Every time has been excellent. Sharon and Aaron are the most helpful and obliging hosts you could wish for. Nothing is too much trouble for them. |

This was our second stay at Marigne, having returned following a relaxing time spent the previous year. The gites are the best equipped that we have ever stayed in with everything from a garlic crusher to lovely wood-burner. On arrival you receive a lovely welcome basket which included milk, water, home-made bread, butter, jam and fresh eggs, and hosts Sharron and Arron make every effort to ensure that your stay is an enjoyable one. Marigne is very much a rural retreat, and offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere for families and couples, who will be made to feel most welcome. We will be returning next year! |
