The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vienne region

The house is situated in the Poitou-Charentes area said to have its own micro climate and the second sunniest climate in France behind the South Coast. The area has many fields of sun flowers (early summer) and has gently rolling countryside with uncrowded roads and towns with a gentle less hurried pace of life. Not too far away is the fascinating town of Poitiers and Futuroscope theme park, also in the area is Le Vallee Des Singes (monkey park), the walled city of Angouleme with its ancient streets and National Comics and Images Centre or the Chateau de la Rochefoucauld (with its nearby chocolaterie) are in this region.
Go east to discover the porcelain centre in Limoges and the International Folk Music Festival of Confolens. Go west to the beaches of La Rochelle. Go north-west to the 'Green venice' of Marais Poitevin or the Pescalis Fishing Cantre. Go south-west to Cognac for the tours and brandy tasting or the amazing Roman Ampitheatre and town of Saintes. Adventure further by taking the TGV (fast train) from Ruffec to Bordeaux or Paris (just 2hrs) for the day.
