Home description
Lovely 150 year old farmhouse with two bedrooms sleeping 5 adults or 4 adults one child and one baby (cot,high chair & bath provided). Large kitchen/Dining/Sitting area, shower and toilet. Well equipped with cooker (bottled gas), microwave, fridge, washing machine. Heating by electric convectors and wood-burning stove. thick walls make for a cool haven in the summer heat and cosyness when not so warm. Splash pool during June-September, children's swings and games, built BBQ.
Quiet rural setting, large garden with fruit trees. Uncluttered traffic free, miles of quiet roads, tree-lined winding lanes. Ideal for cycling and walking, way-marked walks (info: from local Tourist Information Centre. Safe for children. Essential amenities 6 km. - Charroux which has a very long history as a centre of power at the time of Charlemagne, historic Abbey.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Vienne region
On the Atlantic coast, between the châteaux and the castles of the Loire Valley and the Bordeaux vineyards, lies Poitou-Charentes, one of the sunniest parts of the French western coast. It has a benign climate - over 2000 hours of sunshine a year - makes it desirable to visit anytime from early spring to late autumn, and winter can also be very attractive.
Inland, the scene is one of serenity, with vast horizons and wooded valleys, the soothing tranquility of canals, the valley of Vienne, the foothills of Charente and the Cognac vineyards.
Civray area
Futuroscope, cinematic theme park, Poitiers; Confolens (25km) hosts an International Folk Dance Festival for a week in early August, Monkey Valley (20 km - lovely day out for children). Poitiers, Limoges, Angouleme - cities with much of interest. Cognac for Hennessey, Remy-Martin, Martell distilleries. River Vienne for river activities. Charroux - significant medieval town. Civray (14 km) - beautiful Romanesque church, exquisite riverside walks, outdoor swimming pool, thriving market with lots of stalls, music etc. Motor Racing circuit at Val de Vienne (20km). Way-marked, secluded local walks. Barage de Lavaux with sandy beach (50km). Cycling from the house - bike hire locally (10 km) - lovely, traffic-free, winding lanes. Good restaurants in most directions, easily reached.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my week here. The house is suitable for children and I am 9 years old.
