The Valenciana region
According to the World Health Organisation this region of the Costa Blanca is one of the healthiest in the world which has attracted people from all over Spain. It has a cosmopolitan flavour that can be seen in an array of shops and services. Torrevieja, Gaurdamar and the Orihuela Costa have received awards such as being among the top environmentally minded municipalities in Spain as well as consistently achieving their Blue Flag beach awards year after year.
Rojales is a traditional farming village which lies on the Segura River in the heart of the Vega Baja valley which has amazing views of the Crevillente and Callosa mountains. In order to optimize agricultural production it concentrates on growing citrus fruits which account for 70% of the cultivated land.
There are plenty of sports facilities which make it possible to practice such as bowling, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis and swimming. The major sport of the Costa Blanca is golf, of which Rojales is home to Campo La Marquesa. This 18 hole course spans 5.840 meters and has facilities including practice courses, golfing school, social club and restaurants.
The history of the town dates back from the time of the Moors. The water wheel was built at the end of the last century and is protected by monumental stone work to stave off the damages of river flooding which is the oldest working wheel to this day.
One of the most representative symbols of Rojales is the 18th century of bridge of Charles III which is characterised by the workmanship of the stonework crossing the Segura River using three wide arches.
One of the most interesting features in Rojales are the cave dwellings which date back to the middle of the 19th century. Today there are four districts of cave houses. They are located at the sides of several hills surrounding the south of the town. You can visit the caves of El Rodeo where this is an extensive handcrafts market. It has become a hub of activity where courses, fairs and exhibitions of all things handmade are organised.
A must see is the House of Shells which is the work of Manuel Fullenda Alcaraz's patience and perseverance. This can also be found next to the caves of El Rodeo. Manuel will welcome you into his home for a friendly tour.
Torrevieja is a port town hosting a wide variety of bars and restaurants and also many local fiestas. This town caters for the whole family and you can take part in many activities such as walking, swimming, snorkeling horse riding and a generous choice of water sports. There is a magnificent Friday market which sells everything from fruit and veg to housing accessories and gifts.
Local to Torrevieja are the salt lakes of Salinas de La Mata & Salinas de Torrevieja. The concentration of salt in these picturesque lagoons helps to draw the moisture out of the air. This combined with the very low annual rainfall, creates the unique micro climate which is ideal for sufferers of Rheumatism, Arthritis and Asthma.
Trips to the island of Tabarca outside of Santa Pola can be reached by small ferry boats from Alicante, Guardamar and Torrevieja. On the southern part of the island is a small village with restaurants, shops and an old church. You can have the pleasure or scuba diving in the untouched waters or simply just relax on the sandy beaches.

"great place and beautiful setting!"
We stayed in this place for almost 10 days and found it very relaxing and peacefull.
For kids it is suitable as the pool is directly accessible from the house through a gate.
Very clean too!
Hi Diemar, thank you for you review and glad you had an enjoyable stay. Would love to welcome you back again. Kind regards Vince

Wonderful location. It's at the top of a small group of houses that share the pool area. The pool is only about 50m walk. Very nice and clean pool. The house itself has everything one would need. I'd recommend adding the money for the airconditioning as especially the bedroom upstairs can get hot on really sunny days. The bed is very comfortable, the bathrooms were clean and well equipped. The kitchen was very nicely done and also very well equipped. We never had the feeling we were 'camping'. We only used the stove for breakfast as all other days we either ate out or barbecued.
The village itself is very peaceful (we were just before the high season, end of June). There are quite a few good restaurants around. Supermarkets are well stocked with anything one could want and there are several outdoor markets.
The beach at Guardamar is a short drive and very nice. We usually went to the beach just north of the town as it was quiet and very nice. The Salinas are a nice view and visiting the edge of them (especially the red one) around sunset allows for very nice views and photos.
We highly recommend this rental.
