Casa Tersalle is a traditional Umbrian farmhouse situated in tranquil, unspoilt countryside on the border with Tuscany and thus ideal for visiting the many wonderful artistic, architectural and historic sights of central Italy. While in a rural setting, Casa Tersalle is also close to shops, bars and restaurants as well as numerous charming mediaeval hilltop towns waiting to be explored both in Umbria and Tuscany.
Relax in a beautiful rural setting, with the local village of Lippiano, with its lively, friendly bar, just a pleasant ten minute walk through the fields. Casa Tersalle is conveniently located for shops, restaurants and bars, with a bank, chemist, supermarket, greengrocer's and butcher's just a 5 minute drive away. There are various weekly markets in the area where you can get a feel of local life and for families with small children there is a lovely park 5 minutes away with a playground area. If you enjoy walking, there are many possibilities nearby and after a day out you can look forward to returning to Casa Tersalle to take a dip in the plunge pool, relax in the garden or on the terrace with a glass of wine, dine al fresco and enjoy the fabulous views!
The farmhouse provides flexibility for different sized groups and offers exclusive use however many people are staying. The accommodation is on two floors, with one bedroom on the ground floor and two on the upper floor, and is suitable for up to 8 people. For 2-4 people the booking is for the ground floor only (one bedroom with 1 double or 2 single beds + living room with 2 single beds); however, an extra room on the upper floor (with 1 double or 2 single beds) can be made available on request for a small extra charge. For 5-8 people, the booking is for the whole house (3 bedrooms). Please contact us for 2-4 guest prices.
Outside there is a large sunny south-facing terrace where you can sit and relax and eat al fresco, while taking in the wonderful views of the surrounding fields and small lake, all with a backdrop of green wooded hills. There is also a small garden where you can relax on sun loungers and perhaps do some holiday reading. There is a large library of maps, books and films in the house for guests' use.
In the garden there is an above-ground plunge pool (3.5 m diam, 75 cm deep), which is great for cooling off on hotter days during the summer months. This has proved to be an extremely popular addition, both with children and adults!
The owners, Rob and Jane, who work as English language teachers in the area, live in separate accommodation (in the former animal stalls!) and are available for any help or advice that may be required. Whilst respecting guests' privacy, we are also happy to share a bottle of wine and a chat on the terrace.
In the immediate area of Umbria and Tuscany there are numerous mediaeval hilltop villages and towns waiting to be explored, many excellent restaurants and pizzerias and of course plenty of opportunity to stop for a cappuccino and/or a gelato! Experience the Italian culture, art, handicrafts and tradition of towns and cities of Umbria and Tuscany, such as Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Orvieto, Spello, Arezzo, Siena, Cortona and Florence, all within a 1.30 hour drive of Casa Tersalle. There are various local music festivals and events throughout the year, many revolving around a food theme - an opportunity to get a feel of local culture!
Why not have a wine-tasting experience in Montefalco, Montepulciano or Montalcino? We can also help if you would like to have an Italian cooking day. You could visit the Frasassi Caves - a great outing for families. Also within easy reach is Lake Trasimeno, with its beaches and shallow water - ideal for small children - where you can enjoy a fish meal and maybe take the short boat trip out to the island. For something different, there is Norcia, famous for its salami and wild boar sausages or, beautiful in early summer, is the Pian Grande di Castelluccio covered with a carpet of wild flowers. All this and plenty more to discover within a two hour drive of Casa Tersalle!
We look forward to welcoming you!

The Umbria region
Umbria is an enclave of tranquillity, a rural region in central Italy, dubbed the 'Green Heart of Italy'. Life here is laid-back and peaceful. The well-known towns of Assisi, Gubbio, Perugia, Orvieto and Spoleto are all in Umbria, as well as many smaller mediaeval hilltop towns and villages, and Lake Trasimeno with its safe bathing beaches (and the place where Hannibal gave the Romans a lesson in military strategy!).
Casa Tersalle is an ideal choice if you are looking for comfortable accommodation in the Italian countryside, somewhere to relax and enjoy a taste of the natural beauty and the many sights that this still unspoilt part of Italy has to offer.
Citta di Castello
If you enjoy nature and walking, there are plenty of possibilities in the area, superb views and an abundance of wildlife to enjoy. Within easy reach, in addition to the many attractive mediaeval hilltop villages, there is Italian culture, art and tradition to be found in towns and cities such as Assisi, Perugia, Arezzo, Siena and Florence.
In the nearby village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina you can take in the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and enjoy a cappuccino or cold drink at the friendly bar, where you can also buy superb local 'pecorino' cheese. In Citta' di Castello you can wander around the town soaking up the atmosphere of the old centre and perhaps stop awhile at a café in the 'piazza' to watch local life over a 'gelato' (ice-cream) or espresso.
There are numerous festivals and events in the local area throughout the year - often revolving around a food theme!
