The Borgo and its owner are extremely conscious of environmental issues and have implemented environmentally sustainable practices. Guests are provided with bio-degradable products free of charge for washing and cleaning and the owner stipulates that only these products are to be used on-site. The use of conventional cleaning products is understandingly not appreciated.

The Umbria region
Nestled between the tourist magnets of Florence and Rome, Umbria is an inland region and Italy's most rural region.
Perhaps named after the shady forests (umbra) of the Apennines, Umbria has the rolling hills, ancient stone villas and expanses of vineyards and fields of sunflowers and olive trees you'd find in Tuscany and plenty of small towns with atmosphere seeping out of medieval, Roman and Etruscan walls.
The Citta Di Castello area
The Borgo Cittá di Castello is a typical Renaissance-Borgo located in the north of Umbria, directly on the border of Tuscany. This fortified residence is part of the small community of Città di Castello and is situated in the middle of a 230 hectare country estate, surrounded by pine trees and olive groves, vineyards and chestnut woods.
This rural settlement dates back to the 16th century and is made up of a few simple but yet elegant country houses and cottages and a magnificent architecturally constructed manor house that evokes the beauty and charm of past centuries. It enjoys a superb location in a peaceful and secluded setting, almost in a world of its own. It lies in a small sheltered basin, shielded from northerly winds, and offers delightful panoramic views of the scenic landscape to the south.
Between the ancient housing and cobbled streets and alleyways, one feels transformed back in time. The calm and tranquillity is just amazing, although the next village is only 2 km away.

This historic rural retreat is a small paradise encapsulating traditional Renaissance architecture with modern interior design and facilities. For sporting and outdoor enthusiasts there are routes available for trekking and mountain biking and there are two small fishing lakes nearby, ideal for anglers. In the Autumn the area is extremely popular for wild mushrooms, particularly the 'porcini'.
