Home description
The house is ideally situated for visiting many famous cities such as Assissi, Siena, Orvieto, Perugia, and is set in the beautiful Umbrian hills - ideal for people interested in walking and cycling and riding in a countryside teeming with wildlife. The house is large and detached and has been restored retaining many original features with chestnut beams and flagstone floors throughout. The kitchen/diner has a huge inglenook fireplace, stone sink and modern stainless cooker with oven. The large secure garden is a major feature of the house, with many mature trees, lawns, gazebo and secluded pool which has ample paved surround for sunbeds and deckchairs. The owners maintain a well-stocked kitchen garden with salads, vegetables and fruit for guests' use. For guests who stay for 2 weeks or more, the owners prepare a barbecue at some point during their stay. The garden has a bread oven, covered space for outside eating and is secure, making it particularly suitable for families with children. There is a second kitchen and shower room adjacent to the garden.

The Umbria region
The area is known as the "green heart " of Italy because of it's gently rolling hills with a mixture of chestnut, oak, and pine trees. The weather is generally hot in June, July and August, with cooler days in May, September, October. Cortona is about half an hour away and is known for its Etruscan artefacts-a pleasure to wander in its narrow picturesque streets. There are other beautiful mediaeval cities and many lesser-known hill-top towns for guests to discover within easy striking distance. Some guests enjoy a day in Florence or Rome - we suggest by train. There is the famous Perugia Jazz festival in July with bands from all over the world, and the Trasimeno Blues Festival in July/August..
Citta Di Castello / San Leo Bastia area
Each village and town has its own "festa" - an excuse for a party during the summer months when the locals prepare food and dance late into the night. Visitors are always welcome to these events. San Leo Bastia has its mushroom festival at the end of August, and the Taverna restaurant has regular themed evenings with food from different parts of Italy and sometimes different countries. Citta di Castello is a 20 minute drive and has many good restaurants, art galleries and markets on Thursdays and Saturdays - a lively city, unspoilt by tourism. The river Tiber runs through the city on its way to Rome.
