Umbria, one of Italy's smallest regions is one of the most beautiful rich in historical & medieval character. A land whose rolling hills dotted with castles, fortresses and watchtowers, whose well preserved hilltop towns produce world renowned handmade ceramics, whose many monasteries were founded by a host of local saints, whose valleys are laced with countless gleaming rivers.
Citta Di Castello area
Still surounded by town walls dating back to the 16th century, Citta Di Castello spreads out along the Tiber Valley, on the spot where the Romans had founded the township of Tifernum Tiberinum. It is one of only few walled cities not on a hilltop but level ground. Visit the medieval Palazzo Comunale and the Torre Comunale, the 18th Century Duomo and the Pinacoteca Comunale, an art museum with most Renaissance works, also notable for its external decoration by Vasari. The Tiferno Blues festival in July, the Grain Beating Festival & Fair of San Bartolomeo in August & the Festival delle Nazioni through September. Also the Small Antiquities Market held every third Sunday of the month.

- Fly to Rome - Approx. 2.5hrs drive - follow Autostrade A1 towards FIRENZE - Take ORTE exit - follow sign towards Perugia - Bypass Perugia & follow signage to Citta Di Castello - Take Citta Di Castello North exit - Follow signs to CENTRO to within walled city.

Further details outdoors: Down a cobbled street within the walls of the historical centre is IDILLIO. Park your car right outside the front door. You can meander down the cobbled streets to the main piazza where streets full of shopping & restaurants radiate off like sunrays. You will not go hungry in Citta Di Castello as the town is packed full of restaurants from family owned trattoria's to traditional Umbrian faire.
