Casa Lamponi lies deep in the heart of the Monti Santa Maria Tiberina countryside, situated in a small hilltop hamlet surrounded by green and ancient woods, approached by a meandering white road from the valley below. Terracotta floors, original beams and shuttered windows, together with stunning views across the surrounding hills, give it a true old world Italian feel. Its beautiful stone terrace shaded by a grape vine covered pagoda is the ideal place for alfresco eating or just relaxing with that glass of local wine, or why not soak up the sun on the gentle grassy slopes of the terraced natural garden?

The Umbria region
The nearby Cesena-Rome E45 superstrada puts the attractions of Perugia, Assisi, Lake Trasimeno, Gubbio, Spello, Todi, and in neighbouring Tuscany Sanseplocro, Caprese Michelangelo, Cortona, Arezzo, Siena and Florence all within easy reach or take the train from Arezzo for a day trip to Rome (only 1hr 45mins on Eurostar).

The historic hilltop village of Monti Santa Maria Tiberina is only 15 minutes away it has 2 good restaurant's, while Città di Castello, the nearest large town with all amenities and weekly market, is about 25 minutes.

Everything about our stay at Casa Lamponi was a wonderful experience. The house, the peace, the solitude, the views from the many pleasant walks, even the track up to the house. The upper Tiber Valley is fast becoming one of our favourite places in the world & we look forward to returning to Casa Lamponi to explore more of the area. Thank you for a most enjoyable holiday.

Casa Lamponi is a delightful little retreat from the cares of the out side world. The cottage has been beautifully and sympathetically restored with every need and comfort catered for. Besides visits to Gubbio, Perugia, Spello and Assis we thoroughly enjoyed the side roads to Cortona via Morra (turn right at bottom of this track, the road is not marked on the maps!), Ausina, Poggioni, Pritole and into Cortona. It is a delightful town and well worth a long visit. We should have also allowed 3-4 hours at lese at Spello – very unspoilt and less visited than Assis. Locally, we enjoyed walking up the tracks above the cottage which can take you around to the tower you can see the opposite side of the valley or the top of M. Favolta where a wooden cross has been placed by the inhabitants of S. M. Rassinata.
We have enjoyed our visit enormously, Casa Lamponi is definitely “molto simpatico” Thank you very much indeed.

I can only re-iterate what has already been said. Everything you need is at hand in the house it is immaculately kept, the terrace and the garden is a suntrap overlooking the tree laden valley. A very easy walking countryside and local to touristy towns if one so wishes. At the weekend there were vehicles galore passing by, these were the locals going to gather chestnuts and mushrooms. There are a couple of good restaurants at Monte Santa Maria Tiberina. Unfortunately this is the last day of the holiday, the sun is blazing down through a cloudless sky and peace reigns around. I could do with another couple of weeks of this. A really good holiday.
