About the home

Orchard Cottage is within the Cotswold Water Park and quiet enjoyment is the watchword on the estate, as this is a family orientated destination, yet we are perfectly positioned for shopping trips to the Spa towns of Bath or Cheltenham or to the many excellent eatories locally.

The shared outdoor pool is heated Easter-Oct. Sauna, table tennis room, tennis court, chickens and shop all a few metres away. The stable door at the back, opens directly onto a 2 acre orchard bounded by the river Thames (fenced) for a truly Swallows and Amazons experience. We have one double and two single bedrooms all furnished with Egyptian cotton duvets/sheets. Our cottage provides a unique secure experience for a small family/group with plenty in the surrounding area to see and do during your stay.

The Central England / Cotswolds / Gloucestershire region

We are located in the Cotswold Water Park Europe's largest expansion of inland water and as such we have an abundance of water sport activities a stones throw away and of course lovely walks along the Thames Path for those who prefer to watch the wildlife or follow the Thames to its source.

Being on the southern edge of the Cotswolds we don't need to expound on the beauty of the local villages which are world renowned.

The Cirencester / Lower Mill area

Our estate can offer you a relaxing holiday as the kids will be happy to stay put due to the pool, trampoline, kids' play park and all that space! However, if you want to get about again within 5 mins you have Keynes Country Park with its 5 star sandy beach, cafes, high ropes course, watersport hire and play parks.

The Roman market town of Cirencester is 10 minute's drive away and the new Corinium museum is a must see as is a visit to the farmers market and many of the individual shops found in the town.

For the adventurous there are various activities on offer, such as Polo, cable skiing, paint-balling, aerial adventure, clay pigeon shooting and gliding. In addition to this you can visit the Westonbirt Arboretum, and the grounds of St Mary's Abbey.

Our Cottage is 5 min taxi drive away from Kemble railway station or 10 mins from a National Express stop and lies within the Cotswold Water Park. We have a cycle hire shop 300yds away, so you don't need to bring your car as there is plenty to do within walking, cycling distance if you were here for only a couple of days and have kids but if you need more information please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you do want to bring your own car or hire one we are very simple to find and we are 1 1/2 hours from Central London,1 hr from Central Birmingham and 35 mins from Bath/Bristol.

“Appalling do not book.” This experience was a disaster.Sent the wrong code for the correct entry gate.Not even the security guard knew where Orchard cottage was.It has no signage , it is in fact number 3. Opened the door to be greeted by the smell of old fat eminating from the filthy cooker hood.Water left in the sink.Fridge door shelf for milk held together with Gaffa tape.Fridge and microwave had food residue in.Ornaments covered in grease.Dog hair in the cutlery draw.Cutlery and crockery not clean.Light not working in the bathroom,light not working by front door.Old TV,DVD ,Video Player and music system in a cupboard all plugged into extensions an absolute fire hazard. Curtain in bedroom hanging by wire with a spike on the end.£100 per night for three nights but we left a night early as it was such a mess.Deposit not returned and £50 compensation as per email did not arrive. Very disappointed by lack of acceptance by owners. Response: We are so sorry that this guest had such a poor experience. Unfortunately her stay got off to a poor start when she misunderstood the directions and went to the wrong gate (the code works at the right one). The house clearly wasn't quite as clean as it needed to be on this occasion but our cleaning company went round as soon as they were called (their mobile number is available for guests to call with any problems during their stay)and dealt with the issues our guest identified. We are in the process of updating some equipment in the cottage (having only recently bought it) but everything works. We have spoken with this guest and posted the compensation cheque as promised. If potential guests have any questions we are always more than happy to answer them.

“Lovely homely feel” Orchard Cottage has a really lovely feel about the place. The owners have been very thoughtful with what is in the cottage. We thought the breakfast provided was particularly great. There are toys in the house which is great when travelling with a young child. Beds were very comfortable too. The location is also great, both in terms of its proximity to Cirencester but also the estate itself. (The electric hand whisk was a real bonus, as we were there to celebrate a family birthday and had a birthday cake to make!!)

“Absolutely perfect!” have recently come back from a fantastic and relaxing week at Orchard Cottage. The cottage its self was like home from home, extremely comfortable and very clean and the location, stunning. Set on a water park, the scenery is beautiful and there are some lovely walks around the lakes. The nearest shops are a short drive away but Lower Mill does have a farm shop for the basic essentials and is a minutes walk from the cottage. Cirencester nearby, is a charming town and definately worth a visit as are the small villages in the local vicinity. On the estate is a communal swimming pool set amongst the lovely grounds and although it was too cold for us to use, would be great come the warmer weather. Our children loved their stay here, we thought they might get a bit bored but with a huge orchard outside the cottage back door and a container full of games, along with our trips out, they were more than happy. For a perfect getaway from it break I would absolutely recommend staying at Lower Mill. We will be back.

“comfortable, warm, quiet and safe for children” A good place for walking, wildlife, fishing and sightseeing with plenty of space for children to play safely. Lovely warm pool, well protected, childrens play area and almost private orchard.

“Home from home in an idyllic location” We booked this cottage as a rather last minute get-away based on it's location on the Cotswold Water Park, which is close to family and friends whom we don't get to see very often. The cottage and location was better than the website described it. The cottage was a home from home for us and we settled in in minutes. Our children thoroughly enjoyed playing ball games in the orchard at the back with their cousins, and we all made good use of the tennis court, swimming pool, trampoline and table tennis on site. Beds were very comfortable and the log burner made for a cosy evening in with good friends. We were able to walk part of the Thames path, enjoy meals at the local pub and explore the water park and nearby woods. We really felt that we were able to relax into our short break very quickly here and make the most of our time together as a family. Last week I contacted Philip and we have booked a return visit in 2012 which our children have given a resounding seal of approval to. Response: Great thank you we know we have a special place so it please us to see others do to.

“Well equipped cottage in a great location” This cottage is very well equipped for a family of 4. The children were delighted to have a bedroom each. Breakfast provisions were left in the fridge, the bacon and eggs were particularly welcome! Facilities within the lower mill estate include an outdoor heated pool which we all loved even in October - the sauna was used to warm up! We stayed for 3 days and didn't use the car at all. There are plenty of walks , cycle trails and other activities to keep even teenagers amused. Head 4 heights was a particular hit. We also enjoyed several drinks and a good meal at the nearby pub - The Baker Arms which is less than 10 min walk away. Response: We are so pleased you had a good time and we look forward to seeing you again.

“A wonderful stay” This is a beautiful, comfortable and wonderfully equipped cottage having a huge enclosed orchard as a back garden. A stone's throw from a shop/cafe, swimming pool, tennis court and the tranquil lakes of the Water park. Within walking distance of a great pub and only a short drive/cycle to the freshwater beach. This is perfect for children of all ages as there's plenty to do in close proximity and it's very safe. I wish we could have stayed longer. Response: Thanks again for your kind words, as our cottage is special being a wonderful place for kids who can run free safely, just like our generation did.

We are a self catering cottage but we supply tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and olive oil to get you started.

Our rates are very simple and start from £85/night for the cottage (minimum two night stay) which caters for 4 people in one double and two single bedrooms and we give a 10% discount for 7 night bookings.

A 25% deposit is required to book your dates with the balance being paid 8 weeks prior.

Payment is taken via online banking or Paypal (you do NOT need a paypal account and can use any debit/credit card) but there is a 3.5% handling charge on top of all our prices if paid by PayPal.

These prices include FREE use of all the facilities, like swimming pool and tennis court, kids play park etc.
