Cottage | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Isis Cottage is a Grade II* listed Cotswold stone holiday cottage situated within the grounds of Kemble Mill, an historic 16th century watermill less than 10 minutes from Cirencester (Roman Corinium). Located down a quiet country lane in a secluded and magical setting, it nestles on the banks of the River Thames (also known as the Isis from its source nearby to Oxford) between the villages of Poole Keynes and Somerford Keynes.
Isis Cottage has a 4 Star Gold Award by Visit Britain (English Tourist Board), so you can be sure it is very well appointed and maintained throughout. It is inspected annually by a Visit Britain assessor and has been awarded a 4-star rating every year since it opened, ensuring high standards throughout. This offers complete peace of mind that your holiday cottage will be as special as you'd hoped!
Part of the original 'mill' building has now been sensitively converted into a delightful Cotswold retreat whilst retaining many of its original period features. It has been thoughtfully equipped for both couples and families with all mod-cons for a truly relaxing holiday.
Isis Cottage provides very comfortable self-catering accommodation on 2 floors with picturesque views over the river and surrounding countryside. Numerous country walks are to be found outside the front door, including the famed Thames Path, and it is within easy walking distance of several local pubs serving very good food.
A haven for wildlife, kingfishers, moorhens, ducks, herons, swans, wagtails and snowy egrets are often seen on this quiet stretch of river just outside the cottage door.
Please note that the cottage garden bordering the river is unfenced so young children must be carefully supervised.
Isis Cottage has its own private garden overlooking the River Thames (water flow is seasonal, depending on rainfall) comprising a lawn, a gravel garden with patio seating and a wild flower meadow, ideal for tranquil alfresco dining and relaxing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review and for your wonderful comments about the cottage. I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay in the Cotswolds with us. Since your visit, we now have superfast fibre optic broadband in the whole area and it was installed in the cottage just this week so the WiFi is now excellent! We hope to welcome you again in the future.

"A Cotswold gem"
We have stayed at Isis Cottage twice and aim to return in the near future. The cottage is a gem set within the context of open countryside and under big skies. We enjoy our breaks in buildings of character and Isis Cottage 'ticks all the boxes' with Vittoria and Simon as perfect hosts. The garden, set in grounds next to the infant Thames, is a delight for a glass of wine and a relax and the web of footpaths to villages, pubs, church and countryside invite exploration. We found the cottage spacious, comfortable and quiet with all our needs supplied. Parking is easy and the location of the cottage, within the grounds of beautiful Kemble Mill, provides central access to historic houses, towns and villages such as Bath, Oxford and 'royal' Tetbury. This makes it an ideal vocational home-from-home for long weekends away or relaxed week-long breaks.

"A wonderful base from which to see the South East of England"
My wife and I have stayed twice at the Isis cottage and found our stay was excellent. The cottage is charming with large grounds. It has a modern kitchen with everything you need for a self catering holiday. There are two large bedrooms with high quality furniture and fittings and the bed was very comfortable. It also has a large comfortable bathroom.
The location is a perfect spot as a base for exploring the Cotswolds and the South East of England, so long as you have a car. It is a short trip to Cirencester but we also made trips to Tetbury which is also quite close and we went to bath. we were interested in the antique shops and found many good quality places to visit.
We are a retired couple who live overseas and were not looking for any late nights and the quiet countryside was very relaxing for us.
We did walk to the local pub once and it would be quite pleasant on a nice evening but when we went it was pouring with rain. but the food was reasonable and the people were pleasant.
Vittoria is a charming host and provided us with a lot of local advice. And she was also extremely helpful in organising our accomodation which was at peak season.
The lane to the Cottage is quite narrow and if there is a vehicle coming the other way, somebody has to back up,but we found that the locals always did the reversing as they seemed to know we were visitors.
All in all a wonderful holiday for us.

"The loveliest stay we had in England"
We are two couples who spent a week at Isis Cottage and agreed that this was the best stay we had in a holiday home in England. If we should travel in England again this house is a 'must stay there'.

"We Already Booked a Return Visit"
I'll start by saying that the Isis Cottage is so nice and the owners are so friendly that we have already booked a return visit for next summer, all the way from western Canada. The accommodations are very well appointed and comfortable, the grounds are incredible (perfect for kids, with space for kicking a ball about, plus the tennis court. Wow!). Then there is the character of the place, being an old mill, and the fact that the headwaters of the River Thames actually flows under the building. How cool is that? As well, the walking trails go right past the property and I was able to go for a 45 minute run in three different directions on three different mornings and didn't set foot on the same pathway twice. There are pastures full of bleating sheep, a fantastic pub across the fields, a private rose garden and gazebo, a nearby water park and beach. It's a about an hour-and-a-bit by car to each of London, Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford/Blenhiem. It's a great place. If you are looking for a well located, comfortable and quiet cottage in the Cotswolds, book this one.
