About the home

Beavers Retreat is a stunning architect-designed detached holiday home located on a secluded 500 acre nature reserve in the heart of the Cotswolds Water Park. It offers spectacular views over Somerford Lagoon. Beavers Retreat sleeps up to ten guests plus two infants in four double bedrooms and a twin bedroom. There is a huge open plan living/dining/kitchen area on the ground floor with floor to ceiling windows to take in the amazing view with a decked area and the lagoon beyond. There is also 42" plasma TV with DVD and dedicated Wireless Internet and a wood burning stove.

The Lower Mill Estate benefits from an abundance of activities for all age groups, including sailing, fishing, and animal and birdwatching. Guests also have unlimited access to the exclusive, world class ArtSpaTM which offers a full range of fitness options including slate lined 20m indoor pool, slate lined 15m outdoor pool and outdoor plunge eco pool, sauna, steamroom and fully equipped gym, as well as a range of rejuvenating spa treatments.

Beavers Retreat offers a very high standard of accommodation throughout with gorgeous designer furniture and fittings:

Ground floor
- Huge kitchen, living, dining room featuring floor to ceiling windows which open right back out onto large deck overlooking the lagoon, wood burning stove, oak dining table and funky perspex chairs - seats 10.
- Well equipped kitchen with Fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Corian worksurfaces and breakfast bar and stools.
- Play area with large indoor/outdoor beanbags
- Cloakroom

First Floor

- Large master bedroom with "floating" king sized bed, wardrobes, cot and ensuite shower room. Balcony with views over the lagoon.
- Shower room
- Twin bedroom.
- Two double bedrooms with beds that can be converted to desks during the day or for smaller groups. One with large balcony facing west towards the Artspa - perfect for end of day sundowners, the other has a balcony overlooking the lagoon.

First Floor:

- Double bedroom with kingsize bed.
- Bathroom with utility room.

Further details outdoors:
- Decked area to the rear of the house overlooking Somerford Lagoon, gas barbeque and table and chairs. Heat lamps. Grassed area leading down to the lagoon.
- Two first floor balconies overlooking the lagoon.
- Large first floor balcony facing West towards the Spa - offering great views of the sunset and a chance to watch the world go by from a unique vantage point.

The house is located on a 500 acre nature reserve including many walks, 8 lakes for non motorised watersports (fishing, sailing, canoeing etc). Bird watching hides and an abundance of nature including amazing birds, otters, deer, bats and the UK's only "wild" beaver population. Guests have unlimited use of the ArtSpa - two outdoor (April to October only) and one heated indoor pool, gym, steam room, sauna and relaxation area. Treatments also available for an extra charge. There is a children's playground, shared tennis courts, trampoline, a tree house and chickens to feed! Lots of activities locally for all the family and access to many pretty Cotswold villages. Further details

Lower Mill Estate is a family environment and as such we welcome family groups. Beavers Retreat is also an excellent option for an all adult group who will enjoy the very high standard of accommodation.

Beavers Retreat is based very close to our other property Beaver Brook and the two can be hired together for large family groups.

Hen and Stag parties are not permitted at Lower Mill.

Conditions

A £250 deposit is required to confirm a booking and final payment is due six weeks before the start of your holiday. A £250 cautionary deposit is also taken. All adult groups require a £500 cautionary deposit. All our guests are required to sign the LME Code of Conduct prior to their stay.

The Central England / Cotswolds / Cheltenham / Gloucester region

The Cotswolds area is a popular area for its picturesque towns and rolling fields with beautiful towns such as Cheltenham and Cirencester, and many stunning villages such as Bibury, Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford and Moreton-in-the-Marsh.

Cheltenham became a popular spa in the 18th century, and its Regency architecture remains very well preserved, and it also offers an abundance of boutique shopping and restaurants.

Tewkesbury is home to the beautiful Abbey, one of the most popular spots in the Midlands for visitors. Stow-on-the-Wold is the highest point on the Cotswolds and Gloucester has a magnificent cathedral.

The Cirencester / Lower Mill area

Lower Mill is located five miles south of the historic Roman town of Cirencester, making it an excellent base for exploring the wider Cotswold area. There are many beautiful villages within a short drive.

Much of the 500 acre estate is given over to natural habitat and there are several sites of special scientific interest. Lower Mill takes its name from the historic water mill found at the entrance, one of only two still working on the river Thames, which flows through the area.

Lower Mill is within the Cotswolds Water Park holiday area with lots of water based activities from a man made beach to waterskiing, angling and sailing.

There are many picturesque local pubs and restaurants within a short drive and The Bakers Arms in Somerford Keynes (serving food all week) is within walking distance. An organic shop is also located by the water mill for daily essentials. As well as a wide variety of birdlife on the eight lakes found at Lower Mill, other residents include barn owls, deer, otters and the only "wild" beaver population in the UK.

Our nearest railway station is Kemble (approx 3 miles) or Swindon (approx 10 miles) both of which have direct trains from London, Paddington.
1.5 hours drive from London on the M4/A419. Easy access from the M5.

Our two families had a fantastic stay in the Beavers Retreat and made the most of all the facilities at Lower Mill. The children loved having some independence - walking to the shop and the playground on their own. An absolutely gorgeous house with the most wonderful views over the lake. The owners have great taste!
