Goose Nest House
About the home
Goose Nest House: spacious, glass-fronted family-owned holiday home with stunning, uninterrupted views over Somerford Lagoon, the largest lake in Lower Mill Estate and the only lake with buildings only on one edge which give you privacy and wonderful views. Set in the 550 acre Lower Mill Estate in the Cotswold Water Park with its 450 acre private nature reserve boasting badgers, otters, deer and kingfishers amongst its residents.
Guests of Goose Nest House have free access to the exclusive Artspa, available only to residents and guests of Clearwater Village, Lower Mill Estate. It has three swimming pools (including the unheated 'Eco pool' where you can swim amongst the water lilies), sauna, steam room, gym and pampering spa treatments from massage to manicure (treatments extra).
The house, with first floor living, has been equipped and furnished to a high standard to provide you with the perfect, peaceful place to unwind with friends and family for short breaks, tranquil get-away -from-it-all holidays or for the more active amongst you tennis, fishing, walking, sailing, riding, golf and water-skiing to name a few.
The floor to ceiling glass windows and doors in the open plan living room and in two of the bedrooms give you a fantastic view over the lake. And, as only one edge of the lake is built on, in the summer you can slide the doors open, lie in bed and enjoy the early morning sunshine without being overlooked. Or you can sit on the balcony and have a leisurely breakfast of freshly-baked croissant bought from the shop.
Inside, there is an oak-floored spacious open plan area with contemporary wood-burning stove, an oak dining table (seating 8+2), a luxury 'American' kitchen, four double bedrooms (two king, two twins) a small, specially designed child's bedroom (5 ft by 2 1/2 ft bed plus a travel cot) and luxury bathrooms with power showers throughout.
You can stroll around one of the seven lakes in the Estate, watch the wildlife through the many hides dotted around, follow the Thames Path to its source or simply sit on the balcony and watch the world go by.
For families, we have provided a home from home including two travel cots (new mattress), high chairs, child's cutlery, stair gates, safety plugs, baby monitor, child's bed, bed barrier, potty, bathmat, blender, sterilizer, baby and toddler carriers, toy box, DVDs and books. The Central England / Cotswolds / Gloucestershire region
Cotswold's is the largest area of England designated for its outstanding natural beauty. From rolling hills, green fields to quaint 'chocolate box' villages with friendly, traditional country pubs. There is plenty to see and do in the area whether it is for a weekend break or a longer, more relaxing away from it all holiday.
The Cotswold Water Park is in the southern Cotswold's, easily accessible by road and yet it feels a million miles from the hubbub of daily life. It offers a perfect location from which to explore the chocolate box villages and towns in the Cotswold's towns such as Cirencester, Cheltenham and Gloucester as well as Bristol Bath and Oxford, all within a 40 mile radius.
The Cotswold's are steeped in history from the Roman times and there are some beautiful historic houses and estates to explore: such as Chedworth Roman Villa, Dyrham Park, Sudeley Castle.
The Thames Path begins just three miles from Goose Nest House near Cirencester and has many lovely walks along its 170 mile journey to the sea.
The Cirencester / Lower Mill area
Many of our guests can't tear themselves away from the Lower Mill Estate which, as well as the swimming pools and pampering treatments, also has tennis courts, children's play ground, a pet area, a small organic shop (opening times restricted)where you can pre-order freshly-baked croissants and pains-aux-chocolats and newspapers to enjoy on the balcony overlooking the tranquil lake. Nature trails weave around the seven lakes, three rivers and meadows with hides to watch the wildlife. As a guest of the Estate you can also join the fishing club or sail or canoe on the lakes.
The Cotswold Water Park offers plenty for the active guest - from fishing, walking, sailing and cable water-skiing, cycling (bike hire available close by) and a number of golf courses for you to try. The source of the Thames is just three miles away and runs through the Estate. Out and about, the honey-colored villages and towns of the Cotswold's provides you with plenty to see and do (and enjoy a country pub or two): Cirencester, its routes as a Roman Fort, has an excellent range of boutique shops, a farmers market and antique market.
Other attractions include the Corinium Museum in Cirencester providing a good introduction to local history; the awe-inspiring Gloucester Cathedral, and Slimbridge bird park. Bourton-on-the-Water boasts pubs, shops and tearooms as well as the Model Village, Birdland and one of Britain's best small motor museums. Cotswold Wildlife Park is less than 30 minutes' drive from the house and is ideal for a family day-out. Closer to home is Butts Farm rare breed children's farm, Westonbirt Arboretum and an indoor soft play area if the weather is bad.

We booked Goose Nest to celebrate a 40th Birthday with friends and family and could not have found anywhere as well equipped and luxurious. It looks good in the description and photos, but they... more |

We've stayed at Goose Nest a few times now and have had a perfect stay every time (hence going back again and again!). The house is immaculate, and very well equipped (including toys for the little ones to give us big ones a bit of time to ourselves!) ~ the owners really have thought of everything you could possibly need. The owners are very helpful, everything was just as described and the beds are sooooo comfortable and everything has a feeling of luxury about it. The views over the lake from the balcony are stunning from morning through to watching the stars at night - literally 'heavenly'! The spa and swimming pools are fantastic too and my family and I have spent many a happy hour relaxing and enjoying ourselves here. |

Wonderful holiday home with everything you could possibly want. The house is beautifully furnished yet comfortable and relaxing, and amazingly well equipped (especially for young children - there's even a toy box!). Madeleine and Paul Shearer ensured we had everything we needed and gave a real personal service! The views of the lake from the house are quite lovely and we enjoyed wonderful sunrises thanks to our insomniac pre-schooler! The indoor and outdoor pools are great and there are some good cycle rides and walks in the local area. We'd love to return! |

Please note that there is some building work currently happening at the far end of Howels Mere, a different lake at the Lower Mill Estate. Disruption is kept to a minimum, is not on Somerford Lagoon or by the Spa and is not close to Goose Nest and no works traffic passes the house or on the main Estate, in addition, work does not usually take place over a weekend and does not affect the wonderful view from the house.
