There is plenty to do within the immediate locality. The Gateway Visitor Centre with Coots Cafe and The Old Boathouse gastro pub are within walking distance. Next door is Spa 6. Here you will find a truly tranquil setting with spa facilities and a full range of beauty treatments. Both the next door villages of South Cerney and Cerney Wick have traditional pubs which serve food. For a special meal we enjoy The Bell at Sapperton (24 minutes drive).
If you are looking for a more active holiday you can explore the local area on a network of paths. A map can be obtained from The Gateway Centre with footpaths, cycle and canal towpaths clearly marked.
There are numerous opportunities for water sports within the park and South Cerney Outdoor Education Centre (Lake 12, within walking distance) offers courses in various watersports. There is an 18 hole Pay and Play Golf course with a driving range in South Cerney.
The town of Cirencester is 12 minutes drive away. It has all the necessary shops, services, regular markets and places to eat. There are many interesting buildings spanning several centuries and lots of places to visit such as the Corinium Roman Museum, Brewery Arts Centre and Cirencester Park. The Festival of Arts takes place every June.

"Excellent, contemporary Lodge"
My friends and I were looking for somewhere to stay over the New year as we'd grown tired of heading in to town and ending up having a disappointing night.
From the moment we arrived at Heron Lodge we were impressed. The Development is clearly quite new and everything looked just like in the photos. Upon entering the Lodge we were impressed by the open plan layout, clean lines and over all airiness of the property. The bedrooms were just as impressive as the main living areas and the kitchen came stocked with everything you could need to prepare a good meal - much more than I've had in other places I've stayed.
The lounge overlooking the lake was fantastic and we had Swans and Ducks coming up to the decking outside to be fed.
We also visited the nearby Pub 'The Old Boathouse' for dinner which was able to provide a very nice meal.
Overall I can't recommend Heron Lodge enough. The only thing that was missing was wi-fi. We were told by the holiday company who manage the site that we could hire a router for a daily charge but chose not to as this was a little pricey.

We stayed at Heron Lodge for our daughter's wedding, the accommodation far exceeded our expectation. The size and quality of all the rooms and fitments was amazing. The location was "to die for", it was perfect for our requirements. We had family over during the period we were there and they were in awe of the house. Our daughter and son in law whose wedding we attended on the Thursday stayed with us on the Friday night and brought an inflatable mattress which they moved out onto the decking to see the sunrise over the lake - just perfect. Will use again for our next daughter's wedding!!!

"A perfect getaway"
A huge thank you for a wonderful weekend. The house was beautifully presented and situated in the perfect position on the lake. We enjoyed a 3 night stay in the lodge. A member of our party is wheelchair bound, we found the accommodation spacious and easy to use. The setting was very relaxing. The house is beautiful and contains all mod cons. We enjoyed the shopping in Cirencester and a perfect day out in Bourton on the Water. The deposit was returned promptly on our return. Communication with the owner was efficient. If you are looking for a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings then I would highly recommend this property.

My friends and I stayed at Herons Lodge last weekend for my birthday, from the moment we got there we loved it. the lodge is beautiful, spacious, well situated and has everything you need.
On the Saturday we hired out bikes/tandems from 'go-by-cylce' which is only 10minutes drive down the road, it was so much fun, we cycled around the lakes and parks then had lunch & prosecco in a pub garden. on the evening we had a meal at The wild duck - the food there is lush, bit on the expensive side but worth it :) - we managed to get there by taxi which took about 15 minutes.
I would recommend Herons lodge to anyone, its peacefull, pretty and has loads to do near by.

"Fabulous waterside stay"
We spent a week at Heron Lodge in October 2012 and had a fabulous time. The lodge itself is superb, being an open airy design yet warm and cosy, finished to a very high standard and in a great position on a lake. There is a large deck over the water where you can sit and relax, and feed the local waterfowl if you wish, or just enjoy where you are. There's loads to do in the surrounding area, with local walks and places to see and have a drink and a bite to eat on foot, or by car there is the town of Cirencester less than 10 minutes away, and Cheltenham is easily reached for a day out, as is the National Arboretum at Westonbirt. We had a great week and it didn't hurt that we watched the Ryder Cup win at Medinah while we were there !!
