Wool Cottage is located in the Cotswold market town of Fairford. It has just been beautifully restored to a high standard and is now a charming self catering retreat. The downstairs area is spacious and light and most importantly - comfortable and welcoming. Upstairs has two bedrooms both with ensuite and an extra small single in one of the rooms. The terrace outside the french windows has sunshine throughout the day and the view from the front of the cottage overlooks the beautiful and ever changing water meadows alongside the River Coln. Fairford market place is a 100 yard walk and offers plenty of amenities, in fact you need never get in your car for the whole of your stay. Famous for its 15th Century stained glass windows in the church, the town offers places to eat and shop for groceries with a market every Wednesday. There are a number of beautiful walks around the town and plenty more within a 2 mile drive. We also provide bicycle storage for those more adventurous types (not too many hills!). Within easy driving distance are the beautiful towns of Cirencester, Cheltenham Spa and Tetbury.

We aim to make your stay in our cottage as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. A welcome hamper will be waiting for you when you arrive, we also can, on request, provide breakfast hampers or an evening meal ready for you to put in the oven when you arrive. We live next door to Wool Cottage and are on hand for any questions you may have, however, the renovation has been done to ensure privacy for all our guests. Parking is the driveway is limited to short periods of time, however there is ample free parking 100 yards away.

The Central England/Cotswolds region

The Cotswolds has long since been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its unspoilt landscape and quintessentially English towns and villages. Little gems can be found around each corner with something for everybody. Walks and cycle routes abound for those who want to get away from the crowds, whilst those who like the shops and a bit of history will enjoy the many picturesque towns and villages. There is no shortage of things to do as the Cotswolds plays host to many events around the year, Cheltenham Gold Cup, The Royal International Air Tattoo, Badminton Horse Trials, Gatcombe Horse Trials and Cheltenham Literary Festival to name but a few. Our tourist attractions include Westonbirt Arboretum, Sudeley Castle and Slimbridge Wetlands Trust, seasonally there are many festivals in and around Cheltenham, a number of music festivals and a plethora of fabulous Farmers Markets. Our local produce is excellent and there is no shortage of people to tell you about it and share the delights. For those who have a little more time to spare, a day trip to Bath or Oxford is definitely in order.

The area of the Cotswolds around Fairford will not disappoint with the roman town of Cirencester only 10 miles away and the spa town of Cheltenham half an hour away. Cirencester boasts an excellent array of shops for both food and browsing, an open air swimming pool, a roman museum and beautiful architecture abounds. Lechlade upon Thames, our neighbouring town offers shops akin to treasure troves and boating on the river, and once you have crossed the border into Oxfordshire a day out in Oxford is a must.

If outdoor pursuits are more your thing then we are surrounded by the Cotswold Water Park offering 150 lakes to discover. Activities range from angling, snorkelling, wakeboarding, water skiing, cycling or plain old swimming from the inland beach! The water parks are also bursting with wildlife and birdlife and offer visitors plenty of opportunities to explore.

Walking around Fairford and the surrounding villages is a very relaxing way to spend time, with limited hills and gorgeous scenery - those involving our many delicious pubs are definitely worth a try.

Finally, at the end of the day there is nothing nicer than sitting down to a delicious meal either cooked by yourselves with some of the delicious local produce or venturing out to one of the many lovely restaurants and pubs that litter the area - happy holidays!

"Charming cottage, beautiful interiors and a fabulous setting"

We had the most delightful weekend at Wool Cottage. The cottage has been beautifully furnished and every possible need has been catered for. Catherine is a fabulous host and was happy to offer advice on places to go and things to see in the local area. Her breakfast in a box is a brilliant idea - we felt like we were in a boutique B&B! Nearby there are great walks and bike rides, and a whole host of Cotswold country pubs to choose from. A brilliant weekend away.
