The Central England/Cotswolds region

Cornerstone makes a great base for exploring the Cotswolds, an area known for its beautiful hills and charming villages just a short drive away.

Playwright and author, J.B Priestly described the Cotswolds as

"the most English and the least spoiled of all our countrysides”

Lower Mill Estate is a nature reserve and part of The Cotswold Water Park - Britain's largest water park with fishing, boating, fishing, golf, tennis, walking and cycling among many other activities.

is located in the heart of the Cotswolds, covering 40 square miles and made up of over 140 lakes.

Lower Mill Estate is the UK’s only residential nature reserve, within a Site of Special Scientific Interest. LME has 450 acres of abundant wildlife, lakes and countryside and is part of the Cotswolds Water Park.

Among many who have commented on LME, Kevin McCloud wrote:

“There are exemplary developments such as the Lower Mill Estate in Gloucestershire, where sustainable construction, ecology and design come together in one feel-good eco cuddle”

Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs, The Sunday Times

Guests at Cornerstone have access to a heated exterior pool and sauna.

The pool is open through most of the season (April to October) it is heated to a comfortable 28-29oC, with poolside loungers. Other activities and facilities include boating, canoeing, nature trails, hard tennis courts, cycle tracks, trampoline, children’s play area and fishing.

The Lower Mill Estate Shop is open at various times depending on the season, stocking luxury ready meals as well as basic supplies, beers, wine and toiletries. Newspapers may be bought but it is best to order the day before to guarantee your paper. It also runs a delivery box scheme of fresh organic vegetables and high quality meat all sourced locally from Chesterton Farm. The shop also stocks seasoned logs for use in wood burning stoves, harvested from the estate’s woodlands. Phone the shop in advance for orders (01285 869817).

A private catering service is also available through the shop. More info 01179 555 271, 0782 7777 998.

‘The Baker’s Arms’ is our local pub which prides itself on its beer, drinks and food, a pleasant 15 minute walk.

Cirencester is our nearest town, 6 miles away. A delightful market town, which was Britain’s second city in Roman times. There are many historic sites & interesting shops.

"A beautiful home away from home in a stunning location!"

Cornerstone is a comfortable, extremely well-equipped 4-bed house, particularly suitable for families with children. The Wi-Fi was a really useful recent addition! The beds were particularly comfy with lovely bedlinen and the towels supplied were soft Egyptian cotton. Lovely smelling hand wash was supplied in all the bathrooms, and tea towels and a supply of dishwasher tablets were provided, which was very useful. We were also greeted with a generous welcome pack consisting of smellies, wine and chocs for the grown ups and a bag of things for the children to do, which was delightful! Our favourite thing about this property is that it comes with full access to the spa facilities and all the swimming pools, which not all properties on this park do. The water park is a stunning setting, with warm indoor and outdoor pools, safe cycling routes, tennis courts and playground areas, plus a little shop. The ponds and lakes are full of wildlife and there's always something to look at. Nearby Cirencester is a lovely town and we spent many a happy hour mooching around its markets, boutiques and cafes.

"Very comfortable and homely house in an attractive and peaceful location"

We enjoyed a very restful and relaxing week in this lovely home-from-home. The house is very warm and comfortable and the facilities on the Estate ensured that there was something for everybody to do whether it be swimming, steaming in the sauna, jumping on the trampoline or being massaged into oblivion. We walked, cycled and admired the views every day and at the end of the week, we left feeling the benefits of this wonderful tonic. This is a place for people who enjoy the outdoors, a cosy home and the sound of birds singing outside the bedroom window. We will be back!

"Exceeded expectations"

Great house. Very cold outside for our weekend away but lovely to have the wood burner for a cosy atmosphere inside. Lots of little extras that the owners provided to make it feel like a real home from home. Exceptionally clean and spacious for 6 adults and 2 children. Outside heated pool (a memorable swim at dusk outside in the rain and steam rising off the water) and indoor pools are fantastic for the children and adults.

"Lovely cottage in a very quiet, peaceful location."

Cottage was almost perfect. Great location near the spa, lake and shop, but it was also incredibly quiet and peaceful. We were two families of 4 so the two rooms with bunks were great for the kids and the two doubles perfect for the adults. Cottage has everything you need and is very clean and well presented. Access to the spa was great and the kids loved the pool. The only grumble would be a lack of storage space, but other than that all the living areas were spacious and comfortable. Would be great in the summer sitting on the deck near the water feature, but when we were there in March it was way too cold to sit out. The cottage itself was very warm and welcoming and the owners had left some champagne and a basket of goodies!
Thanks Vanessa and Norman for such a good weekend.
