The Central England / Cotswolds / Gloucestershire region
April 2008 - Online magazine AskMen.com has compiled a list of the top ten ‘paradise’ locations around the world that seem to have remained untouched by civilisation. The Cotswolds is 2nd Place!
The region is famous for its ancient mellow ‘honey’ coloured limestone villages that blend perfectly into the countryside and its bustling market towns. Many have scarcely altered since they grew up on the prosperity of the medieval wool trade in the 15th and 16th centuries and subsequently forgotten about for more then 300 years. This sequence of events now makes the Cotswolds region one of the most treasured; toured and vacationed in England and the UK for nowhere else will you see such timeless uniqueness and heart warming preservation on such a scale.
Many traditional villages within 15 minutes reach, offering tradition combined with chic
Ideal for antique hunters: visit the charming villages of Bourton on the Water (the Venice of the Cotswolds), Burford, Stow on the Wold, Moreton in Marsh and Chipping Camden (plus many others), the larger spa towns of Bath (a World Heritage Site) and Cheltenham (famed for its beautiful Regency
architecture) or Oxford (the city of dreaming spires) and Stratford upon Avon just over 1 hour away.
For those looking for a bargain, Bicester Village offers most sought-after brands at prices reduced by up to 60%.
The Cirencester area
Cirencester is the nearest town and is only 10 minutes drive, where you will find large Tesco, Waitrose, M&S and a good variety of shops/boutiques, pubs and restaurants.
The town of Cirencester (formerly named Corinium was the second largest town in Britain during Roman times) is home to the Corinium Museum, the Cirencester Abbey (the longest known Saxon church in England) and host to regular market days.
Golf at Wrag Barn or Burford Golf Club
Gliding at Cotswold Gliding Club
Polo at Cirencester Polo Club
Shooting at Clay Pigeon Shooting Cotswolds
Water skiing and sailing, climbing, river cruises, rally driving.
For those adrenaline seekers try some off road driving or perhaps a balloon ride

this was the perfect location to celebrate my significant birthday with our children. the house was immaculate on our arrival and everything worked! the only comment to make for an improvement would be the signage on the estate. It was quite difficult to find the house, particularly at night. |

Once again, we had an enjoyable stay, this time in Island Lodge on Bowmoor lake. Island Lodge has a beautiful neutral decor in pristine condition. Just perfect with it's surroundings. My 9 year old son truly enjoys his visits there. It's never a dull moment and wonderful to see him always wanting to be outside rather than on the i-pad!! The next stay will be in our own house on the same lake which is practically complete today. Thanks Kasha and Cotswolds Spa holidays for your wonderful service and attention to detail. We toasted to our new home with your Champagne in the thoughtful welcome basket. |

I stayed with my family ( 9 of us in total) at Island Lodge for a long weekend. We were celebrating my Mum's 70th birthday. I booked the Lodge as a surprise for my mum and when she walked in I got the reaction I was looking for she could not believe it all she kept saying was OMG and WOW. The Lodge is absolutely beautiful so spacious it has everything you need and more! The view across the lake is amazing so lovely to see the swan's and the duck's swimming along so peacefully. We had a wonderful time there. |
