"Lovely house; poorly maintained and terrible customer service"

This house could have been wonderful had it not been for the fact it was poorly maintained, not cleaned and dangerous for our child. The agent took more money than quoted and gave incorrect advice abou… More

This booking was made on 22nd December 2013, some 9 weeks before the holiday start date. We can confirm that we send full details of the Sunset Lodge on the 22.12.13, including a detailed floor plan of the property and a description, together with a video of the actual lodge itself.

The guest's daughter called us the day before they were due to arrive to advise that the lead party member, who was actually her father, was very ill and they were unsure if he would be able to make the holiday.

She asked about access to the lodge, initially specifically relating to car access and we advised that they called park immediately outside the Sunset Lodge and that it was about 5 metres to the front door, without any steps to negotiate. She seemed pleased with this and mentioned that she thought this should be fine. I mentioned that this would of course be here judgement call, as I had no way of knowing her fathers condition.

She then asked if there was a ground floor bedroom in the lodge and I advised her that there was not, all of the bedrooms were upstairs and as such, had to be accessed via the stairs. She did seem upset about this, as they now needed a downstairs bedroom, due to her father's medical condition. I informed here that this was never mentioned at the time of booking, which she accepted, but mentioned that back in December her father was not ill and the upstairs bedroom would not have been a problem when they made the booking.

She then requested that we relocate them to an alternative property that had the living accommodation and a bedroom/bathroom all on the same floor and unfortunately I had to advise her that we do not have a property that met their new criteria. The holiday start date was the next day and it was also the February half term and we were fully booked across all of our properties in any case.

This telephone conversation took place a mere 24 hours before the guests were actually due to arrive, after having supplied them with all of the house details some 9 x weeks prior to this telephone conversation.

We also made enquires to other home owners on the estate to see if anybody else could accommodate their specific requirements, but unfortunately all the houses available to rent were booked and as such, unavailable.

The guest also asked if it was OK to bring compressed Oxygen with them, as her father was in need of this facility. We agreed that we would make all necessary arrangements to facilitate their request, although once again, this was just 24 hours before they were due to arrive, so it was all very last minute. We did manage to make all of the necessary arrangements in time and confirmed this to the guests. We also advised as to the location of the nearest hospital, should the need arise and advised that ambulances are familiar with the estate and are able to get access without any problem. Once again, the guests seemed very happy with our assistance and thanked us for our help.

On arrival the guests did complain about the state of the outdoor decking area, which was in need of a good jet wash, which is not surprising as this was February 2014 and we have just had the wettest winter on record ! It was also raining very heavily on their arrival, so we were surprised that they were even considering going to use the decking and sitting outside in such horrible cold and wet weather. Even so, we arranged for the deck to be jet washed the very next morning at 9:00 am and our contractor spend 4 hours the next morning cleaning the decking, whilst the guests were at the spa. This was a response of less than 12 hours, which we thought was actually pretty good going!

We acknowledge the problem with the one of the blinds in the bedroom and this was once again fixed, all be it 2 days later. We can also confirm that we changed the bulb that had blown, although there are spares in the kitchen cupboard for guests to use. The leak was also fixed the very next day and the guests seemed very happy with the level of response at the time, but we do sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

We can confirm that we do not provide bikes, although these are available to hire on site, nor do we provide tennis rackets, or any other sporting equipment. This was never requested, nor mentioned, prior to or during their holiday.

We can confirm that the house is up for sale, although all bookings would be honoured and we would suggest that the house is in very good order.

We can also confirm that the guests did indeed stay the full duration of their 7 night holiday, although they did arrive a day later than agreed on the Saturday, rather than the Friday night.

We would like to assure all of our guests that we do indeed take the upkeep of all of our properties very seriously and likewise our customer service. We have made a considerable financial investment in the estate and our reputation is everything.

We fully understand that the guests were going through a very difficult time with their father's serious illness, but would suggest that their comments could be construed as a little unfair; even so we wish them well for the future and a speedy recovery. Best Regards, Tim Haywood – Property Manager.

"Fantastic modern house in beautiful setting with great activities!"

Sunset Lodge is a beautiful, well appointed large house in a great location.
We had a weekend away with a group of friends, and had 6 adults, 2 5yr olds, a baby and 2 dogs in this house. It was a perfect size to accommodate us all and it didn't feel like anyone had the short straw when it came to the bedrooms.
The location of the house is great, secluded and private with great views yet just next door to the site spa, with gorgeous pools!

"Ideal property for a family gathering"

We had a lovely stay over the Easter week and despite the very cold weather we found the property to be very warm and cosy. The house was well equipped and proved to be ideal for a large family break. Jamie, who greeted us was attentive and very helpful during our stay. Unfortunately ease of access to WiFI was limited.

"Wonderful stay - thoroughly recommend"

8 girls rented out this lodge to celebrate a special birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by a roaring fire and a clean and modern house. The property is arranged over 3 floors and decorated to a high specification.

We were literally across the road from the spa, which was absolutely lovely. Most of us paid for a treatment and all said they were very good value! The spa has a lovely steam room, sauna and loungers to relax around the pool - the only thing missing is a Jacuzzi! Due to the weather we weren't able to take advantage of the outdoor pool, but can imagine that this is glorious on a warm day.

Most of the weekend was spent relaxing, but we did venture in Cirencester and ate at a fantastic Thai restaurant in the evening. My only word of caution would be to avoid the local pub called the Bakers Arms - over-priced, poor quality food and if you dare to complain you will receive a very aggressive respnse from the owner/manager!

Overall, I would thoroughly recommed this lodge if you are looking to get away from it all and hope to be able to come back again!!

"I haven't been on Holiday with my family for 10yrs and this made the wait worthwhile!"

I had the pleasure of staying in the Sunset Lodge and wasn't sure what to expect but when I got there it blew my mind!
Why? Well because 1st it was incredidibly spacious and lacking absolutely nothing. The rooms were tidy and clean and felt luxurious to the point we were dreading going back home to our "2 up 2 down" hole in the ground. I loved our home until I saw The Sunset and now I want one!
The family utilised the gym and Sauna which if it was any closer would have been in the garden however if they wanted to swim, the pool wasn't much further.
The farm shop was my particular joy, selling a mean cheddar that was so crumbly i thought it was made by Flake!
I'm used to selling the sewers growing up so to have a clear river passing our holiday home was a wonderful experience.
Would love to go again, just to make sure that it wasn't a dream.
Someday, all holidays will be packaged this way.........

"A thoroughly enjoyable break and a super house"

We booked the Sunset Lodge as we have a small Yorkshire Terrier and this seems to be the only property on the estate that permits pets, which we did find quite frustrating. We have to say that the house is terrific, very modern in its design, with lots of glass and is very light and airy feeling, yet most comfortable at the same time. We loved sitting in the lounge with a glass of something cold, with the patio doors fully open + admiring the view down the lake. A thoroughly enjoyable break and a super house - in a hard to beat location. The onsite spa facility quite simply fantastic and was a lovely treat, very much the icing on the cake. We certainly do intend to return at some time in the future and would happily rebook the Sunset Lodge.
