"Gorgeous Villa with an Amazing View"

We stayed at this gorgeous 5 bed villa on the lake for 4 nights and had a lovely time.

The villa is very clean, furnished to a high standard and well equipped. The estate is secure, clean and easy to navigate. The rental managers are very friendly and happy to help with any questions.

Waking up to a fabulous view of the lake every morning with the swans, ducks and other wildlife floating past was possibly the best part. Or was it the hot tub on the terrace at sunset that was the best part? It's hard to say.

In between waking up on the lake and our sunset hot tubs, we ate lunch at nearby Tetbury, had afternoon tea in nearby Malmesbury and drove slightly further afield to Bourton on the Water and Burford, all four of which are wonderful Cotswold country villages and everything you could hope them to be.

All told, we couldn't be happier. Thank you. We'll see you again soon.

"Average at best, definitely not Luxury"

We rented Skylark Lodge for the whole family for a week at the end of August. The company is marketing this property as 5* luxury with excellent service, yet it fell well short of that. We expected … More

Thank you for taking your time to post a review on your time at Skylark Lodge.

We hereby post the following reply to your review, as unfortunately there are a number of inaccuracies in the review.

We can confirm that a full set of linen, kitchen equipment & bath towels were supplied for the guests holiday at Skylark Lodge. There were also tea towels, oven gloves, washing up liquid & dishwasher tablets were all supplied & located under the kitchen sink cupboard of the lodge.

The Welcome Pack was sent to the guest within 24 hours of their booking, the booking was made on the 22.1.14 at 12:48 & the Welcome Pack sent to the email address supplied on the 22.1.14 at 20.08, less than 8 hours after the booking was made. We also note that the Welcome Pack was sent again 11 days later on the 2.2.15, as the guest requested a further copy be sent to an additional email address, as they were struggling to open the PDF files on their computer, this was indeed sent the next day on the 3.2.15 at 10:48 & our email server confirmed safe delivery & a read receipt of both communications.

The kitchen is indeed fully equipped with cooking utensils, Knives, pots & pans etc & we did not receive any communication from the guests during their stay. We have subsequently examined the chopping board, & it does indeed need replacing, & we can confirm that it has now been replaced & we offer our apologies for any inconvenience caused. We should point out that had the guests bought this to our attention during their stay, then we would of course have promptly replaced the defected item with absolutely no quibble.

We can also confirm that the kettle did have some lime-scale in it, & we've treated it & that has now been replaced as well. Unfortunately, we are in the hard water area, so lime-scale built up does happen from time to time. Once again, had the guests had informed us of the problem, we would have provided them with a replacement kettle.

In terms of the towels supply with the lodge, we supply one full set of towels, that being bath towel & hand towel per guest which again we can confirm were supplied to these guests. The guests booking form indicated that there would be 6 adult guests, so this was the number of towels provided, it transpired that there were in fact 11 adult guests in total, which was clearly higher than the agreed number of guests at the time of booking.

We can also confirm that bath/shower mats are indeed supplied with the property – comprising of a long rubber bath mat for each bath & a smaller square rubber bath mat for reach shower, both being from John Lewis & being of a high quality – both sets of mats have an anti-slip surface & suction pads on the reverse to secure them, they are rolled up & stored to the side of the bath & also to the side of shower cubicle.

We have examined the bathroom for mould & we regret to confirm that we did spot see a small amount of mould in one of the corners of the shower cubicles, we can confirm has now been dealt with & removed.

We do not supply cleaning cloths etc as the cleaning of the property is included in the cost of the holiday, we do not expect our guests to have to clean during their holiday.

We can see that the hammock had indeed broken on the deck & we have now removed this from the property, & we apologised for any inconvenience caused. Once again, had this been bought to our attention during the guests stay, then we would have dealt with it immediately.

The gas BQ has been replaced by a charcoal BBQ, as feedback from our guests suggest they do prefer a charcoal BBQ, rather than a gas unit.

We can confirm that our Guests Relations Manager did visit the guests on arrival at 5:00 pm on Monday afternoon of their arrival & revisited the next day, the Tuesday also, to take a look at the hot tub. The water of the hot tub appeared to have a large amount of foam/froth in it, as if shampoo, or bubble bath had been added & we changed the water & retreated the tub, ready for the remainder of the guests stay.

We did receive a large number of quite random text messages from the guests before & when they arrived at the property for various items, such as directions to the house, difficulty in locating the key safe, confusion of the car parking space, the tea towels, the lime scale in the kettle & a number of other items & we replied promptly & professionally in all instances.

We are genuinely sorry that the guests were less than 100% satisfied with their stay, but we do feel that they have grossly exaggerated the number of relatively small issues that occurred & we would point to the 40 plus excellent reviews of Skylark lodge from our guests.

We would like to assure all future guests that we attach a very high priority to the levels of customer service that we provide & as such, we employ a full time, onsite, guest relations manager, to liaise with our guests & ensure that they get the most from their holiday.

"A great venue for a family gathering"

We stayed at Skylark with my family (10 of us in total) for a long weekend break to celebrate my 40th birthday. I chose the venue initially as we had a varied age range from 5 years to 69 and there was something to suit all age groups on the estate. On arrival we were greeted by Jamie, a friendly and helpful house manager. He told us what we needed to know about the house and the estate facilities and was available for any queries during our stay. The house was well suited for our needs, it was clean, tidy and well stocked with crockery, plates etc. There was always plenty of hot water available for 10 people and the house was warm and cosy. The estate was very nice and quiet and the spa and swimming facilities were excellent. The surrounding areas were easily accessible and the chocolate box villages were a joy to visit. Crocodile World was a great afternoon experience for all ages and the cheese shop in Burford was a cheese lovers paradise. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lower Mill Estate whether you are looking for a relaxing retreat or an Cotswold adventure, Lower Mill Estate is a great place to stay.

"Amazing lodge in a peaceful & lovely location"

I would recommend this to anyone. We went as a big group of girl friends for the weekend, the lodge slept 11 and we had 10 adult guests but it didn't seem cramped or full at all, even when we all sat down to eat together. It was very clean and we were told it was due to be decorated the day we vacated, even though it didn't look like it needed it. The quality of the items in the lodge were high, it's always better to drink champagne from nice glasses! The only issue was the dishwasher arm had broken, so we were told & shown what to do on our arrival on Friday & the man came to fix it as we vacated on Monday, so they couldn't have done anymore & as we were shown what to do, this was not a problem. The spa was lovely & treatments amazing, very relaxing. The hot tub at our lodge was great to have too. The guest relation manager was very helpful during our stay, and coming back to us very quickly about any queries we had. We had a good curry delivered to the door Friday night, very good value & all items delivered correctly, which is unusual!! And the Bakers Arms on Saturday night was very good food. All in all a fab stay in a fab place. Thanks for having us, we'll be back!

"Cosy, peaceful retreat."

We really enjoyed our stay in the Lower Mill Estate, and despite the occasionally stormy weather we had great time. The spa was a nice place to relax, and we even braved the outdoor pool in November which was still warm enough to swim comfortably. It would've been nice to have more for the children to do in the winter months, maybe a soft play and a clubhouse could be added. But the Skylark lodge we stayed in was perfect for our needs and had everything (except decent phone/wifi signal) we could ask for. Maybe a BT Phone Hub could be added in the house, still pay as you go but it would be useful I think.
