Casa Benessere
About the home
Casa Benessere, a restored farmhouse, is set in the magical, untouched Le Marche region which neighbours Umbria and Tuscany. Close, and to the west, lies the wonder of the Sibillini mountains. And just 50 minute’s drive to the east, there’s 180km of bewitching Adriatic coastline including the exquisite beaches of Sirolo, where you can also take a short boat ride to one of the many isolated coves.
The property, the landscape and the peaceful, inspiring spirit of this area are why we chose the name Benessere, which means wellbeing. Casa Benessere is made up of three buildings. There’s the main farm house with five bedrooms, the old barn with two bedrooms and an impressive studio for yoga & pilates and, on the hill-top overlooking the property, the privata casa. All eight bedrooms are en suite doubles, there is a large swimming pool and a host of contemporary comforts including a large extensively equipped kitchen with a big granite worktop as its focal point.
The renovation has been carried out by Italian specialists in historic rural dwellings so we could keep the property’s true, timeless nature. We have also, where possible, selected original and reclaimed materials along with traditional pieces crafted by local artisans.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region

Most have heard of Tuscany and Umbria. Yet few people know about Le Marche. Set between the sea and soaring mountains, this part of central Italy remains an undiscovered jewel.
Untouched by mass tourism, Le Marche moves at its own gentle pace while offering the visitor a host of memorable experiences. Casa Benessere is the perfect base from which to explore its riches.
You can wander from one medieval hill-top town to another, they are scattered throughout Le Marche, each one a jewel - Cingoli, Urbino, Osimo, Loreto, to name a few. To the North, you’ll discover Urbino, the Renaissance town and birthplace of Raphael (1hr 40min). Then there’s Macerata (40min), an elegant town celebrated for its annual outdoor opera festival running from June to August. Throughout summer, in fact, open air festivals, palios and pageants take place across all of Le Marche.
The region is also home to many natural wonders. The Frassasi Caves (45min) are one example. Discovered in 1971, this is the longest cave network in Italy, with one chamber big enough to house Milan Cathedral. The Sibillini National Park (50min) has many great walks and hikes, with skiing in the winter months. And of course, then there are the beaches with many choices along the 180km coastline.
The Cingoli / San Severino area
The medieval hill-top city of Cingoli, known as the 'Balcony of the Marches' is just 20 minutes’ drive away and has panoramic views over the hills to the sea. It is home to Italy’s best known motor cross trails. Cingoli also has a beautiful lake ideal for swimming and a Water park great for family days out. Closer to home (15 minutes’ drive), you’ll find San Severino, known as the 'City of Art'. Like Cingoli, it has museums, galleries, churches and monasteries while there are lots of excellent dining choices, bars and shops. Matelica (25 mins) has excellent museums and is well known for its excellent DOC wine, Verdicchio di Matelica. The Frasassi caves in Genga (45 mins) are the most extensive cave system in Europe. One of the caves is large enough to house Milan Cathedral. Fabriano (40 mins) is long renowned for the manufacture of paper, which dates back to the 12th century, the oldest in Italy. The paper museum there is worth a visit.
Le Marche is a pioneering region in organic farming. Around the coast, you’ll find excellent seafood and brodetto (fish soup), with each area offering its own delicious variant on the ingredients. Inland there are other delights. This is truffle country, and they have been part of the culture for the past 300 years. Every type is found in the area, so local restaurants serve seasonal truffle dishes all year long. Le Marche is home to the famous white wine Verdicchio. In fact, there are currently 11 DOC areas in Le Marche (this denotes a regulated wine of a high standard, so watch out for the label).
There is also great shopping, many of Italy's top design houses have outlet shops in Le Marche and within 1.5- 2 hours there are four of Italy's most famous theme parks (Mirabilandia, Fabilandia, Le Navi & Italia in Miniatura).

We loved this quiet place in Marche. The house is in wonderful condition with every amenity you could wish for. Antonio the caretaker was fabulous and couldn't do enough for us. We also had Francesca and Bridget cater for us for two dinners which was great, the food was good and they were extremely flexible and we the guests didn't have to do anything! We loved Corsciano and played bocci on a few occasions and had a few beers in the bar, think the locals thought we were quite entertaining! San Severino is only 12 Kms away and shopping there was a delight. We had such a good time that we will definitely be back to this tranquil special place .... |

Guestbook for Casa Benessere
Forget Umbria or Tuscana. Go and stay at Casa Benessere in Le Marche. This is a very special house in spectacularly beautiful scenery. A recent total renovation gives you a large spacious house with no untidy edges. Centre of the house is a big, bright kitchen with a large adjoining dining room. Perfect for groups that like meals to be convivial, uncramped and relaxing. We stayed in the cottage at the top of the property - superb beds, well finished and sensational views. For yoga / pilates / exercise enthusiasts the house boasts one of the most beautiful spaces you will find anywhere - a vaulted, uncluttered space with amazing full height window views over the country immediately below and far into the distance. From the house there are great walking and biking trails and, this being Italy, numerous cultural attractions. In May, when we were there, peace reigns - the roads are quiet, the many trails empty of other tourists, the house an oasis of tranquility. Getting there is relatively straightforward as Ancona Airport is on the 'right' side of town. Of course Italian roads are seldom great but always have the big advantage of being wide! Our hosts took us out twice for really excellent meals in surrounding towns. For groups with diverse sporting, cultural & gourmand interests this house will cater for every holiday wish - in a stunning, peaceful setting.

Teaching Yoga at Casa Benessere
Rebber London, UK
Date of Stay: May 2010
I recently taught yoga at Casa Benessere, it was the most amazing venue, the old farm houses have been done up so beautifully and tastefully and all set in the most magical surroundings.
The yoga studio looked out over a stunning view I'm sure a lot of the time that's why everyone looked so mesmerized during the classes.
The local restaurants where we ate were delicious and the owners the most interesting and charming people.
With amazing Italian coffees and ice cold prosecco just down the road in the wee village and the peaceful seclusion of the house I couldn't dream up a more idyllic place to be. x

Rest and Relaxation
Crouching Tiger London

Casa Benessere is a great place to relax and recharge. It is situated in a beautiful part of Italy, an area which I knew little about before visiting.
The farmhouse is spacious and although all rooms were occupied, it never felt overcrowded.
The bedrooms and en-suites are all to a high standard, and the lounge is a great place to hang out or watch a DVD, especially with a real fire on a cold evening.
Meals in the dining area were very lively, assisted by the chef's delicious food and local wine!
The large pool had plenty of sunbeds for all the guests and amazing views of the surrounding countryside.
The studio is a great space, and our group used it for yoga classes although I could see it having many other uses. It too has large windows overlooking the beautiful countryside.
I would definitely recommend Casa Benessere for a holiday stay!
Beautifully appointed and situated

Casa Benessere is a wonderful house and property, and easily exceeds expectations of the photos. The property owners were genial to deal with, and their caretakers were really helpful. There was much to explore in the region, and, even though we went in August, the area was delightfully bereft of other tourists. Mainly Italians. We have several runners, and most of the routes are challenging, but we managed. The available bikes were useful for the rest. The kitchen was the absolute best we've ever had...a big bonus. We were there for two weeks, and it was not nearly enought!

The perfect holiday for us.

Quiet & tranquil. 10 of us stayed and the house was so big that we all felt like we were still in separate hotels. We lost ourselves in the enormous house and grounds. The beds were huge and very comfy and every room has an en suite, so no sharing. Most of our time was spent laying by the pool reading books in the sunshine and absorbing the stunning scenery. We went for a few short drives around the local area and explored small villages that looked abandoned but weren't. The roads are quiet, so there were no dramas with driving. We also strolled along the local walks and just took it all in.
The kitchen is fantastic, we cooked almost every lunch and evening meal in the house except one. One night we had a local chef come to the house and cook for us, it was great. There is a large town (San Severino) only 10 mins away to do all your grocery shopping and not having any Italian was ok as you could work out most of what you wanted from looking and pointing. The locals were very accomodating. We will be back another time, it was such a relaxing and peaceful part of Italy.
