Sogni dei Santi - a genuine experience of La Dolce Vita! This beautifully restored hill top farmhouse sleeps 14 (7 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms) has stunning views over unspoilt valleys and hills, a large private garden and a private out-door pool, with pool house. Sitting under a 12th century watchtower and surrounded by its own fields and woods it is not overlooked by any other property. Ground floor: large fully equipped modern kitchen with two ovens, US style fridge/freezer and seating area; spacious sitting room equipped with TV/Video/DVD and Game Cube; elegant dining room seats 14; study, laundry and entrance hall. First floor: three stunning double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms; a twin and a fourth double bedroom that share a bathroom. Second floor: up a spiral staircase under the eaves fifth double room, twin room and bathroom with restricted headroom. A ping-pong table and football table provide hours of fun for kids and adults alike!

The house is situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty with hiking trails up into the Sibillini mountains nearby, and the ancient pilgim route to Assisi passing through the hamlet itself. The medieval town of Cingoli, known as the 'Balcony of the Marches' is 15 minutes drive away with panoramic views over the hills to the sea. The town of San Severino known as 'City of Art' lies in the valley below (10 mins drive). Both towns have fantastic restaurants and places to visit. Local village pizzerias and osterias serve excellent local food and wine at good prices. There is also a very nice beach nearby at Porto Recanati 49km.

Meet and Greet and Emergency Assistance during your stay IN ENGLISH! A local Italian lady who is an English teacher will provide this extra service to guests who feel a little daunted by the prospect of speaking Italian want extra peace of mind during their stay.
Local Tour Guiding: the same lady will accompany guests on visits to local attractions, fashion outlets etc.
Cook: a local lady is available to offer an ad hoc cooking service to guests who would like to try local food but don't feel like going out!
Extra Cleaning: a mid-week cleaning service is available each morning, payable by the hour.
Babysitting: local baby sitters are available on request.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Marche region
Le Marche is often described as 'old Italy' where the landscape and traditions have barely changed for centuries. The region lies in central Italy and is bordered on the east by the Adriatic Coast and on the west by the Sibillini and Appenine mountains forming a border with Umbria. To the north are the borders of Tuscany, The Republic of San Marino and Emilia -Romagna, and to the south the region of Abruzzo. The climate is similar to that of neighbouring Umbria and Tuscany, very cold in the winter and very hot in the summer, although Le Marche has a bit more rain and is therefore greener.
The striking features of Le Marche are: 180km of coastline with a great variety of beaches, most notable are the beaches of the National Park of Monte Conero near Ancona; stunning natural landscape - dramatic mountains of the Sibillini National Park and breathtakingly beautiful undulating hills; delicious local food and wine - Le Marche is home to the famous white wine 'Verdicchio'; and medieval hilltop towns, each one a jewell, scattered all over the region - Urbino, Cingoli, Osimo, Monte San Martino, to name a few. The region is also home to some of Italy's most famous artists such as Raphael and masterpieces by Verocchio, Piero della Francesca Uccello may be seen in Urbino. Shopping is also a local passion as Le Marche is the centre of Italy's leather goods manufacture, from designer shoes and handbags to belts. Many of Italy's top design houses have their outlet shops in Le Marche.
The Cingoli / San Severino area
The medieval town of Cingoli, known as the 'Balcony of the Marches' is 15 minutes drive away with panoramic views over the hills to the sea. It was the birthplace of one of Italy's Popes and has a gem of a museum in his former home. Cingoli also has some important churches and is also home to one of Italy's best known motorcross trails! The town of San Severino, known as 'City of Art', lies in the valley below (10 mins drive), it has a good museum and gallery of fine art as well as some important churches and monasteries.
The Frasassi Caves nearby are the longest in Italy, one chamber large enough to hold Milan Cathedral! Well worth a visit.
Macerata is host to the world famous open air opera season at the 'Sferisterio' (40mins from the house) which runs June-Aug.
Throughout the summer there are pageants and palios and food and wine festivals in the local villages.
Further afield is Urbino, the world-famous Renaissance town and birthplace of Raphael (1hr 40mins drive) and within 1.5- 2 hours are: Mirabilandia (Italy's version of Disney Land), Fabilandia (theme park for small children) Le Navi (Aquatic park) and Italy's famous theme park 'Italia in Miniatura' where you can visit all the main cities and sites of Italy in a day.

We stayed at Sogni dei Santi for October half-term with our five children and another family with three children and there was more than enough room for us all. The house has been beautifully restored with every modern luxury yet still retaining its character. It all has a 5* feel to it with everything having been done with top quality fittings and workmanship. In the kitchen there is everything a serious cook could ever need or want from fabulously sharp knives, beautiful platters to serve food on to stunning views from the kitchen windows! The children loved running around the beautiful garden, again with unbelievably beautiful views, and spent hours bouncing on the trampoline or playing table tennis. The pool looked beautiful but it was closed up for the winter. We went for wonderful walks in the incredibly unspoilt surrounding countryside, everywhere you look there is another perfect view. We enjoyed homemade icecreams in the nearby town called San Severino which has some lovely shops and a great supermarket selling local produce. In the evenings we would light the fire, listen to music from the iPod docking station, play some of the inumerable games that are kept in the games cupboard or watch a DVD. Then we would retire to our beds, the comfiest I have slept in for a long time, nestled in our crisp White Company bedlinen having had a long hot bath in our beautiful en-suite bathroom and wrapped ourselves in luxuriously fluffy white towels. We couldn't recommend Sogni dei Santi more highly and will definitely return - maybe in the Summer next time to try out the pool...... |

I went with a group of friends to this wonderful holiday home. It was such a beautiful setting in the hills with stunning views. The house itself was extremely spacious and perfect for a relaxing holiday. We enjoyed cooking fresh food from the market in the large kitchen and eating together in the outdoor dining area (there is an indoor dining area too, but the weather was perfect for sitting outdoors). We even barbecued one night. The pool was wonderful and we enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities including cycling, walking, swimming at a nearby lake and the list goes on. I would highly recommend this beautiful holiday home to anyone - you will have a fantastic time! |
