The Gloucestershire region

You may wish to discover the area's history with a trip to the Dean Heritage Centre. It has five onsite galleries exploring the history of the Forest from the Ice Age to the present day; a reconstructed Victorian cottage; a charcoal burner's camp; an adventure playground; daily chainsaw carving demonstrations; a variety of animals, an onsite gift shop and a newly refurbished café so plenty to see and do.

Clearwell Caves is one of Britain's most complex and oldest mine workings; dating back well over 4,500 years where you can explore nine atmospheric caverns with an ancient and intriguing past or how about spending some time riding a steam train through the forest or taking a cruise down the River Wye.

If you're feeling brave and adventurous Go Ape! needs to go on your 'to do' list. If you love long walks and peaceful surroundings the Sculpture Trail is well worth a visit along with the Cyril Hart Arboretum and then how about refreshments at the Speech House Hotel, a former 17th century hunting lodge which hosted the "Court of the Speech"; a parliament for the Verderers and Free Miners managing the forest, game, and mineral resources of the area.

If twitching is your thing then a visit to Symonds Yat Rock is a must! A viewpoint for peregrine falcons and the site of an Iron Age hill fort. The area was also used as a film lcoation for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. And if film locations are of interest, Puzzlewood is a magical and mystical place just 5 miles away and used on the set of BBC's Merlin, Dr Who and a recent 3D film Jack the Giant Slayer starring Ewan McGregor.

"Lovely little gem in a beautiful location!"

My partner and I stayed here for the weekend and after reading such positive reviews, we were really looking forward to the break. We were not disappointed! Tracey has created a beautiful home from home and makes you feel most welcome as soon as you arrive. The house itself is located right in the middle of everything so there is always something to do within a 15min driving distance. We came here for a quiet, homely break to chill out and relax and we got everything we wanted and more - would most definitely come back - thank you Tracey :)

It was a pleasure having such lovely people to stay and I am so pleased you had a relaxing couple of days. As you say, you can be as chilled out or as busy as you want to be - the choice is yours. Thanks for taking the time to review and we hope to see you back again soon. Tracey

"Wonderful little cottage"

My friend and I arrived to a very warm and friendly welcome on the Friday evening. Tracey was very pleased to have us stay. I had taken my little dog with us and she was also made very welcome. We were shown into the cottage and were greeted with wine and milk in the fridge and home made cakes on the the table. The cottage was very well presented and nice and warm to walk in to. It had been recently decorated to a high standard, with new carpets throughout. We will definitely be visiting again soon! 10 out of 10.

It was lovely to meet you all and I look forward to your return when you will be made to feel just as welcome, all over again. Your little dog was a sweetheart and next time, I'll remember to leave out the doggy treats too!

"Excellent coach house, lovely view, splendid sunset, all the little touches made us feel special."

We stayed for a long weekend with our puppy. The coach house was very welcoming even some cakes on arrival, the accomodation was spotless, very comfortable with some lovely touches to make you feel at home, we couldn't have asked for more, we will difinetely return. The coach house is convieniently located for walks in the woods, a stroll into town or a short drive to all the attractions and countryside to explore.

I'm so pleased you both had a lovely time and your little pup is just adorable, she certainly had fun with our own 2! Thanks for your review and we certainly hope to see you all again soon. Best wishes Tracey
