The Heart of England/Peak District

Shropshire is easy to reach from almost anywhere but far enough away that it's stayed unspoilt and comparatively unchanged.

So if you are looking for a short break or a longer holiday this year and a chance to get away from it all, de-stress, clear your head and indulge a little - Shropshire could be just the answer.

Church Stretton

Church Stretton - The first town in Shropshire to be 'Walkers Welcome'

As a health resort the Victorians called Church Stretton "little Switzerland"(without the wolves and avalanches) but with its alpine like hills and valleys its easy to see why. Church Stretton still retains its spa town feel with natural springs providing the source of Stretton Hills bottled water.

Above the town rises the Long Mynd which is topped by a moorland plateau of heather and rocks, broken on the eastern side by a series of "batches" or hollows. A popular walking area - ideal for exploring the Shropshire Hills. Church Stretton is the first town in Shropshire to receive Walkers Welcome status. Walkers Welcome towns are places which have something special to offer for walkers more than simply being a fantastic place to come and enjoy the great outdoors. The town also holds its own annual Walking Festival in June.

"Great cottage, village, walks and pub."

We have just had one of our greatest cottage holidays ever in this lovely cottage. Our family loves staying in the Peak district, but as I knew this are quite well we thought it would be a really good place to visit with a young family. The cottage looked great and met my wife's high standards.
I would not hesitate in booking this place again, my only worry is this review might get more people interested and it might be fully booked in the future. However it's all the owners deserve as they have created a fantastic place to stay in a brilliant area and could not have been more friendly and helpful.
If you want great walks, beer and comfort in a quieter part of the country, book now.
I am not on commission, just think that people need recognition when they get it right (have stayed in vastly more about expensive cottages that come nowhere near this one ).

Thank you so much for such a wonderful review of Woodlands. It is always a pleasure to receive positive feedback and to know we are doing things right. We hope to see you again sometime.
Kind regards

"A lovely comfortable holiday cottage in a peaceful rural setting"

Beautifully presented with everything you would need for a relaxing holiday in an idyllic setting. A great location with a good pub serving decent food within a two minute walk. The area is very scenic with lots of walks and within an hours drive of Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Ironbridge. Would reccomend a trip to the Victorian Town near Ironbridge. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon.

"Ideal cottage in ideal setting, just great for a relaxing break or holiday."

A lovely old cottage and modernised inside with lovely wood beams throughout. The main bedroom has en-suite shower & basin facilities and super farmland views from all the windows. The living room offers more country views & you easily can step out into the garden. The kitchen is relatively small but although compact, offers all you need for a comfortable stay. The main bathroom is very nicely decorated and offers modern facilities and a lovely bath & shower.
* If your not in a hurry, let the sunshine wake you up in the morning and enjoy the country views.
* If you're going to eat in, bring food / drink with you as this will save a drive to the local town to get supplies.
* If you love walking in the country, this is ideal with so many historic & scenic places to visit nearby.
* Difficult to get any phone signal / or pick up broadband signal so don't plan to do lots of work there whilst your away. Just enjoy the lovely fresh country air and relax.
* A nice pub is literally only a stones throw away & ideal for that meal and a pint in the evening.

"Lovely quiet stay"

The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. We found it warm and delightfully quiet during a week in June when the weather outside was, let's face it, not very good!

The main double bed is superb, by the way. Never slept on anything so good!

Cardington is quite remote, even by Shropshire standards, and it was a twisty drive to most places. Great walking base, though, for The Lawley, Caer Caradoc and Hope Bowdler Hill on foot all the way.

The area has virtually no FM radio signal, and there is no mobile phone reception at all on O2. I'm told that Orange gets some kind of signal. Bear this in mind if, like us, you planned on going online some time during your stay. The nearest signal was in Church Stretton or on the top of The Lawley!

We had a great week, and were very sad to leave. We made a super choice of accommodation.

"Cosy comfortable cottage"

This is a lovely little cottage with 2 roomy bedrooms and loads of character. It is in a quiet little village with just a pub and a church yet is only minutes from all the amenities of Church Stretton. It is well located for lots of local walking or cycling and for visiting towns like Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Much Wenlock, home of the original 'modern' olympian games. The house is tucked down a short path off the road so although you have to leave your car in the pub car park 2 minutes away it means that the house is wonderfully peaceful with no traffic noise. There is a lovely garden with a stream running at the end of the lawn and overlooking fields of sheep.
Inside the cottage is well appointed, mixing old and contemporary with a very welcoming wood burning stove (we were there in winter but were very snug). The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with exposed timbers with a good en-suite shower in the master bedroom and an additional family bathroom.
We will be back!
